Sutra Beach Resort is situated amidst the rustic fishing village of Merang, Terengganu. Miles and miles of white sandy beaches and clear sparkling water beckons you to come and stay. To work or play, to do everything or blessedly nothing, Sutra Beach Resort is the best place to be... Almost like home.

Decent resort within Merang. Could have better if the place is maitain well. Not far off the ICT areas in Penarik. Good spot to have team building or family day programme. Pool is great for kids, however extra care is needed if one decided to play at the beach - high wave and unpredictable ground beneath the sea

I believe this was once a really nice resort. With that huge swimming pool, beautiful private beach, it’s perfect for a weekend getaway. Only a few minutes away from merang jetty. However the room is really, really old. Bed was fine but the sofa had some holes on it. The toilet kinda gives you that euww feelings. Lol Breakfast was included in the room price however due to the current situation, the choice of food is limited. Didnt try the dinner package tho. Despite all the negative points, I actually had a nice stay here and i really wish someday, they would refurbish the whole place and make it great again.

This is the first time I came to Setiu Terengganu. It such a nice place and beach view is so amazing. I had bad experience with the reception before i came here. They not answering your call. The room is so old, the breakfast is ok. The check in process was smooth. My concern is customer service and management can improve the facilities in the future.

This is the best hotel to stay overnight near the Merang jetty before boarding the boat to Lang Tengah island. only 6 mins away. Important as we have a 4 year old kid who does not keep to time. Checkin was a breeze and the room was nearby although we had to take the stairs to the first floor. Room did not have a queensize bed . Only twin beds as booked under Agoda. even tho stated triple with a kid. Anyway we enjoyed the beach and rough sea. Dare not swim in the sea. The pool was refreshing and ideal for kids. We had the set dinner for 5 and the food was amazing. No wonder Malaysians brave the jams to balek kampong for the food and beach here.
This place is so unspoilt and clean. And the hotel was packed. Good choice for a stay in Merang.

I stay at the deluxe seaview room. Nice location facing view but the room is so old. Bed is ok. Doors stuck and toilet holes also stuck.
Breakfast is OK. Pool is nice facing the beach but not so close to beach. no towel provided at the pool.
check in / out fast.
Price per room is expensive. like a 5 star hotel, but they are not a 5 star.

I'd like to start by saying some of the reviews are very unfair, this is a malay resort that isn't really marketed towards westerns and so we should respect that we are visiting their country rather than try and make them cater directly for us. I know from previous experience a lot of malays do tend to swim clothed although not fully clothed and this didn't really bother me
The location is very idyllic and almost on its own private beach as i didn't see anyone use it during the two nights i was there, although i found the location a little too isolated especially as the advertised wifi connection real wasn't string enough unless you sat directly next to reception and even then it was patchy
The service received from the staff however i found to be very friendly ranging from check in to check out and i enjoyed the food served in the restaurant although breakfast is very much a once its gone its gone affair but it is complimentary so can't complain too much

My recent stay at Sutra with my wife and son from 21 - 25 December 2011 were marred by a break-in incident in our room on the 23rd (early morning). The intruder break through the side window closed to the area where the airconditioned compressor are located. We loss all our cash, camera, iphone, garmin and watches in that early morning strive as we were sound asleep. We were there participating in the endurance event in Terangganu International Endurance Park. A police report was lodge and the promises of compensation has gone to the silent attitude of the hotel management and it insurance company. With agony and pain, we've no choice but to proceed with legal claims against the hotel for failing to provide proper security to the hotel guests.

I booked for 4 rooms for my family. The seaview wa great and the pool was great as well. But the rest were a nightmare. The cafe staff were rude, i asked them to get a candle for me to get rid of the flies (the flies were everywhere) but he asked me to get it myself instead. The food were badly taste, the room was dirty. The bed sheets, door curtains were rustic n stains were everywhere. The access to the room from the car park was terrible. I brought my grandmother aged 78 years old and she had difficulties to walk all the way from the car park to the room as she needed to climb n descending the stairs. I strongly contend that the price of rm190++ per room per night is worth the value at all. If the management wont take any steps to improvise i would never return to this place ever again. Stay away from this resort!

My friend and I were so excited about staying here. The pictures online of the rooms were what made us book in the first place. When we arrived, we were shocked at how dirty, neglected this resort had become. The furniture had seen better days and needed upgrading. The bathroom was filthy. The tiles on the floor and wall were so dirty. The mirrors in the bathroom and room had not been cleaned and smears, watermarks all over them. Behind the tv it was full of dirt. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned. Unfortunately, their level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I ended up doing some of the cleaning myself after they 'cleaned' the room. We were meant to stay for 4 nights, after 1 night we checked out. They did try to offer us different rooms, some were bigger than our original room. We refused each one because the level of cleanliness in those were just as poor. The location is stunning, however, it is very evident that this resort has become thoroughly neglected over the years and I believe the pictures shown online were taken when it first opened 20 years ago. Thankfully we found a better hotel to stay and were happy to leave after just one night.

A peaceful place to stay away from stressful urban life. A nice gateway with family while enjoying beautiful sight of east coast beaches of Malaysia, facing the wide open sea of South China Sea. Located quite remote from the town, one cannot expect much from this resort but just a very relaxing experience.
