We stayed here 2 nights so we can visit this city and Nevada City for the "Christmas" experience. The hotel has loads of potential, unfortunately it is in sad shape and in need of major renovations and maintenance. Upon arrival you are met with a view of missing exterior plaster, cracked banisters, and a variety of missing simple fixes such...

This place is historic and therefore quirky hence the charm. Rooms were clean enough, the bed was fine and the bathroom worked. The TV was historic but there was a picture. The whole place needed a face-lift but again that was part of the charm. I was woken in the middle of the night by what sounded like someone being...

Who doesn't like to stay in an historic hotel in a town full of history? It was as expected, being historic and all, but badly in need of a few simple upgrades and service. The room was roomy and the sheets and bedding were clean. However the put shades were broken, (too short for one window, and dirty). The TV...

This could have been a charming experience, but it was quite disappointing. To be fair, there are some positives to the place, but it wasn't enough to offset a bad stay. My wife and I stayed here as we had a wedding in town. We thought we'd splurge and get a suite. Unfortunately, it was dirty. As in the sheets-had-stains-on-them...

SO enjoyed our days in this hotel, staff in hotel and restaurant were friendly and helpful, we will definitely be staying here again. Historical , clean, has a charm all its own, the patio area was great for relaxing. Food was yummy at the restaurant . Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

It is what it is - I am sure many saw the Hotel Impossible show, I think just a portion of the recommendations were done - it is a safe place to stay, in a great location - in an historic building. I just wish they would upgrade the quality of the beds and add some sort of air conditioning...

The Holbrooke has charm but could use a little refreshing (wall paper is peeling in the bathroom, plumbing hasn't been updated in the last century). The vintage of the hotel has it's appeal. The room was large and the bed comfortable. We were there for a very hot weekend and the air conditioning is more than adequate. Food in the...

“Old West” hotel. The rooms are decorated in Old Victorian and it seems like you are stepping back in time to the "Gold Rush Area". I was able to stay in 4 different rooms over the 3 weeks that I visited Grass Valley. What really makes the hotel is the staff, Starting with the front desk is Ty and he...

We recently spent three nights at the hotel for a family friend's wedding. The room was spacious and the king size bed was comfortable. The historical ambience was great. On the first night there was a street fair and farmer's market right outside the hotel. It was great energy and people watching. The front desk and housekeeping staff were all...

Even as historic hotels go, the Holbrooke is pretty no-frills, with only the most basic amenities. That said, our rear-facing room was clean and comfortable, with an ample bed and a pleasant outdoor terrace for reading and taking in the sunset; there was no in-room air-conditioning control, but the desk staff was prompt in adjusting the temperature as needed. When...
