One of my best friends always talked about their great experience when they stayed at this hotel, so I decided to spend one night with my girlfriend. The hotel staff members were so friendly and courteous. At the time of the arrival, they took us to some vacant rooms and explained the concept of respective rooms. We were amazed at how elaborate each concept of the rooms was. The room at which we stayed was a mountain hut style with a fireplace and a bath, which gave us dreamlike moments. After taking that bath, we also went to the hotel public bath (the outdoor bath). The amount of snow appeared to be very small this year, but I was able to enjoy the chilled weather with some snow from the outdoor bath. The dinner (main dish: Shinshu Wagyu Sukiyaki) and the breakfast used local and seasonal ingredients, which were, of course, absolutely delicious. It seems that this hotel has not only magnificent rooms/staff but also the great chef. Fabulous cuisine made us speechless. We wanted to stay more, but...the dreamlike moment never lasts forever. I appreciated my friend who recommend this hotel. I will definitely come back as this hotel has the variety of the room and the great chef/staff!

Had been different Japan traditional onsen hotels and tried this "modern" one, 'Ancient' had became the #1 to re-visit for next onsen trip! Compare to other international or local famous chains hotel groups, Ancient is a sole own hotel which full of characteristics running by a small passionate team. We would like to thanks Mr. Miyagi who saved us from freezing dark. We missed the last bus from Shiraito Falls to hotel and no taxi service around. Called to Ancient hotel and asking if they can help to call a taxi to pick us up, and the answer was… "we will come immediately". Mr. Miyagi showed up in 10mins! We were thinking how much for the pickup service but it didn't show on the bill! And the other life saving act were happened when we checked out. We took hotel free shuttle to train station and not noticed my mobile were left in the car. Luckily we were having last minute shopping, the hotel manager ran up to the station looking for me and returned my mobile. My heart was melted. Apart from these dramas, the hotel itself are full of stylish decorations and antiques which showing the excellent tastes of the owner. Hotel staff are friendly and willing to tell all stories of those antiques even though they're not fluent in English, that's the fun part actually. The team are full of passion and expert of hospitality, all staff will know your names and remember where you came from. You can only found these heart warming service in such boutique hotel.

Although it’s very cold when our family of 7 people stayed at the hotel, we all are impressed the hotel a lot. The feeling is like home , food is the best in every meals . Not only its taste but also the presentation is superb. The plates, bowls, glasses, cups etc are well selected to fit the meal. Staff are well trained to service . It ‘s not a big problem even they can’t communicate well in English. Definitely go back to stay again in autumn.

Stayed for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon in September 2019. Even by Japanese customer service standards, the staff at the Ancient Hotel are more than exceptional. We stayed in the Fluorite Room which was beautifully decorated and designed. The fact that each room is unique certainly makes us want to revisit and try the other rooms. Meals were delicious, varied, and beautifully served and explained in English. Did not spend much time in the garage. Note for those interested, the drinks are not complimentary in the garage and can be purchased when staff are tending to the garage. We loved the common areas including the Restoration Room (adjacent to the baths and had a beer tap along with some light snacks) and the Library (snacks, beer, and records provided). It was neat to be able to bring back a record player, records, and CDs to the room as well from the Library. Walking to the downtown area is not really feasible. There's a bus stop that's accessible, however the staff were kind enough to offer us a personal shuttle service so that we could do some shopping. We took a short hike to a nearby waterfall. Trails are easily accessible, well maintained, and allowed for peaceful walks. Overall the entire experience was peaceful and rejuvenating. Spending time in this forested area to relax and take in nature was one of our most memorable honeymoon experiences and I am hopeful we can return to stay in another one of their rooms. Thank you to the staff at the Ancient Hotel for their warm hospitality and professionalism. You deserve all of the accolades that other reviewers have left on Tripadvisor!

Only complaint is hot spring is regular but it still good enough. Food is good no matter Japanese or Western. Nice hotel and don’t miss it !
