I reviewed Sands of La Jolla quite favorably a few years ago. I have returned a number of times since and still felt good about it - even the year it was in the 90s while we were there and it still didn't have a/c. But this time, I just left angry. It is not cheap -we spent over $320... More

The room was alright, if in need of some updating, but the noise from the street was just too much. I liked the location: you could walk around the neighborhood in safety, and the coast (not a beach) is nearby.

Always traffic outside your window, people shouting profanities in the street at night, constant construction work. Drug dealers in the alley behind the hotel where you're supposed to park. If you're on the 2nd or 3rd floor pack light. The elevator seems like it's been out of order for some time. It doesn't look like the plan on fixing it.... More

This is a nice hotel it's right in the middle of La Jolla and Pacific Beach. It's in a great location 5 min either way to the 2 towns. It's in a nice built up area of La Jolla. The rooms have balconies you can leave the sliders open for the nice sea air. The place is a motel not... More

If I could give a negative star I would My boys and I arrived do a rude front desk to start. Then I notice a cardboard little sign that says they do not have air conditioning. I said you don’t have AC? The front desk girl said no we don’t. I said I was not aware of this. She said... More

Had to stay there for one night because we lost our keys. We were so glad to find a nice and comfy place like this one. The staff was very friendly and the room had everything we needed. I would definitely come back if I'd lost my keys again. Lol :-)

Unfortunately this place is barely maintained and in many instances disgusting . See photos . Second night we had to move rooms due to intense chlorine smell and burning eyes . This was due to clogged toilet next room being repaired . New room has wet spots on the rug with moldy smell from shower leak through the wall to... More

My parents stayed 6 nights and must have said 5 times how clean the place is. They had a suite which is the biggest room, like a 1 bedroom with kitchen. Couch is very comfortable but could use a cleaning and the mattress for the open couch is worn out, unusable. The staff is super helpful, responsive and friendly. One... More

First of all, the place was complicated to get to if its your first time in la jolla because of the one way street. This is a motel and not a hotel. It is small, old and dated. If i knew i would have just stayed at motel 6 and it would have been cheaper. I thought it would be... More

I had a nice, clean, spacious room with a king bed on the third/top floor. A little balcony overlooks the pool on one side of the room, and two small windows look out on residential neighborhoods on the other. There were no noticeable odors; this means that there were no air fresheners used to cover up negative smells. I felt... More
