This hotel is beautiful, and service is excellent. The staff are friendly and really pay attention to detail. We had a lovely meal at their restaurant AR Valentine, and they treated us to champagne and dessert knowing it was our Anniversary. There are lots of day trips you can do from this location, we hiked one day (and went running...

If you want a venue that conveys casual elegance, this is the place. We have found it perfect for both relaxing and entertaining when we are in San Diego, even though we are not golfers. The rooms are spacious and the public areas are exquisite. It is expensive, but it is also value.

We had business in San Diego and elected to go out early. Stayed Torrey Pines Lodge. It is a must for golfers or travelers looking for a beautiful scenic stay outside San Diego. Lodge overlooks course and Pacific. Exercise trails make outdoor exercise eventful. Food in the Lodge was tremendous. Spa a wonderful retreat. Golf, it is Torrey Pines!

Service is prompt, proactive and professional. Lodge style may take a little getting used to, but is a good kind of different if you'll just embrace it. An elevator should be installed close to the lobby as many have to take an unnecessarily long walk to their guest rooms. Common areas are small, but nice. Everything is VERY well kept.

We saw the Lodge when we went to the Farmers Insurance golf tournament and decided to stay there for my upcoming birthday celebration. We had a great room on the fifth floor overlooking the 18th hole. We got there a little early and had lunch in the Grill, food was good, but there were too many waiters and the place...

Did not have a room that overlooked the ocean, I am sure that would have been a whooly different experience. The doormen and bell staff were excellent and the bar area was very nice. But, there was one big drawback, the airplane. Miramar flies directy over the Ledge and the noise is deafening.

My wife and I are not golfers(There are two well known golf courses) but had a delightful weeklong stay. Had a lovely room with fireplace(very nice on those cool evenings) overlooking the golf course with ocean view. Plenty to do in the San Diego/La Jolla area with hiking at the nearby nature preserve. Multiple great restaurants especially JR Valentien at...

Lovely Hotel It sure would have been nice to have a room that over looked the ocean though. We live in Ga and see pine trees every day. The room was nice and very well taken care of. Dinner at the Lodge was wonderful. Everyone that worked at the Lodge was very nice and made sure you had everything you...

Visited March 27-29, 2015. Very nice grounds overlooking golf course. No beach access. Must drive to beach or take one of the trails in the adjacent state park. Several hour round trip hike - not for the casual walker due to steep hills. Our room was very clean, spotless, however they still use the icky bedspread/shams that most nice hotels...

I brought my husband here for his birthday. From the moment you step onto the grounds you are amazed. The gardens are impeccable, the views are amazing! We checked in, and the front desk service was phenomenal. They upgraded us to the Robinson Suite and we could not have been happier. The room was huge with separate sitting, dining and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lodge at Torrey Pines is an award-winning luxury resort set atop the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, California. Awarded the AAA Five Diamond rating for 14 consecutive years, the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for six years in a row, and Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Hotels in the United States and Canada, The Lodge provides stunning views of the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean and endless opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s warm climate – from outdoor dining and relaxing at the spa to hiking, golfing and more. The Lodge is modeled after the famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena – two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazine in 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical- and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open. Whether on the North Course or South Course, our guests have the opportunity to play where the pros play with the stunning La Jolla coastline as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include downtown La Jolla and Del Mar, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the La Jolla Playhouse performing arts center and the Museum of Contemporary Art. During spring and summer, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club entices visitors with the thrill of live racing, while a popular year-round choice is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, a magnificent 2,000 acres of protected rare Torrey Pine trees featuring pristine beaches and eight miles of trails; The Lodge offers complimentary guided hikes throughout the preserve daily. The Lodge is located just 15 miles north of the San Diego International Airport and downtown San Diego. ... more   less
