My husband and I recently stayed at the most charming Bistro Hotel in Long Beach for one night before embarking on a sailing trip to Catalina Island. The Hotel run by Larry Black was his "labor of love" during it's restoration, and it showed. Every detail was exquisite from the rooms decor to the continental breakfast with gourmet coffee and...

The Varden is a great place to stay in Long Beach. Easy to get to and easy to get around the area. A few of us stayed here for the Long Beach Marathon and it was a perfect place to stay the night before a big race. The staff was very helpful when we arrived and gave us several suggestions...

It was wonderful staying with Larry and his amazing staff at The Varden in Long Beach. They are sincerely glad to welcome their guests into their 'home" and to treat you like family. The atmosphere encourages friendliness with the other guests as well. It was a pleasure meeting travels from Australia and coming to know and appreciate them. If I...

Staying at the Varden was a wonderful experience. We arrived long before our check in time and the hotel was gracious enough to allow us to check in to our room early. The hotel was decorated very modern and the hosts were all wonderful. They provided us with directions to a nice place to eat breakfast and made sure we...

We weren't quite sure what to expect when we booked the Varden for four nights. We were in town on business and were looking for something close to the Metro line. The rooms are a little small, but the service offered by ALL staff members is out of this world. They run the hotel and treat their guests as though...

Uncertain where to stay, we chose the Varden, and are glad we did. Wonderful, friendly staff, very modern feel in a classic setting and a beautiful room: this place has it all. Larry and his staff were genuinely welcoming and made us feel at home. The breakfast is tasty, and there are healthy snacks 24 hours. The room was immaculate....

When we booked this hotel it was because it was Number One in Trip Advisor. What a great surprise to find this gem in Long Beach. We arrived after 2 am & the front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. The room reminded me of hotels we have stayed at in Europe and Argentina - small and minimalist (i.e. No...

I have stayed at the Varden twice, once alone for business and once with my husband on a trip to visit friends. On both occasions, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the accommodations and the exceptional service. And it's reasonably priced, too! Perfect for business travelers, solo travelers, couples or friends. Although the rooms are smaller than those...

If you have had enough of the Big Corporate Chains that overcharge for everything and never really know who you are, then the Varden is for you. The staff welcomes you like a long lost friend and delivers great service consistently. This is where you stay in Long Beach.
