Detailed Reviews
We chose this hotel due to its location in downtown Los Angeles. It is mainly a business hotel however it's also good for leisure and is near to a large choice of venues, restaurants, etc. On arrival there was a delay as the reception staff couldn't find our reservation. After around ten minutes and three members of staff trying to locate it, my reservation was found and we could check in. Reception staff were very apologetic for the delay.
The room was fresh and modern and overlooked the hotel pool. Being February the pool was never busy and was nice to relax by. A food and drinks service was available via telephone with a quick response time.
Room service dining had a good choice and was good quality. Breakfast buffet was very limited and not worth the fee in my opinion. An a la carte option was also available.
A destination fee of USD30 is applied to each night's stay, however USD20 was deducted from any food and beverage spend. It also provided separate benefits such as daily wine tasting or museum admission, etc. which overall made the USD30 a day good value. The daily wine tasting was never very busy.
Although the JW Marriott didn't have a spa, the adjoining Marriott hotel, The Ritz Carlton did. This wasn't used.
Hotel is well placed for transport links. Buses to Beverly Hills depart two minutes walk away and the Metro is around a ten minute walk away. A variety of shops and supermarkets are near by.

We stayed here over the weekend and the hotel met our expectations. We used it as a central location for our stay in SoCal and didn’t really explore downtown. All staff we encountered, including valet, front desk, Illy, house keeping, and restaurant were very friendly. I highly recommend the Branzino and Wagyu burger at Glance cafe where you can dine outdoors. The Illy downstairs was also very convenient as the in room coffee is very basic. The JW pool was closed so you use the Ritz pool instead. During our stay the weather was gloomy and chilly but the pool is heated to a reasonable temp. Jacuzzi is closed. There is no food or beverage service at the pool but there are towels, water, and sunscreen. I am Platinum and was not automatically upgraded prior to the stay and had to ask at check in. We booked a Deluxe King room and were upgraded to an Executive King on the 12th floor which is a corner room and is definitely roomier. They didn’t hesitate to upgrade us. The lounge is closed due to Covid so they offer 750pts per day instead which I appreciated. There are two options for parking, self park off site or valet. Self park is about 30$ whereas valet is 49++. We had booked a rate with a per night credit so opted for the valet which was very convenient. We felt safe at the hotel during Covid as masks are required and everyone we saw was in compliance. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area.

I’ve stayed here several times over the last few years as it is one of the closest hotel offerings near the Staples Center and the Convention center, which are a quick stroll away. There are plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and Starbucks coffee is only steps away from the hotel if you are craving it.
Service is very friendly. Check in was easy. I have allergies and require a feather free room. I was happy to hear that they had a feather free floor. But unfortunately, that limited my ability to get an upgrade at the time of my early arrival (2:00pm) because there were no available upgraded rooms on the feather free floor. I was a little disappointed that efforts were not made to have an upgraded room ready for my arrival time, as I am a titanium elite member and I had checked in early the day before with my arrival time. But this is minor because I could have waited for the upgraded room.
My room itself was a standard king bed room that was spacious. The carpet, curtains, and sofa could do with a refresh. They appear older, slightly dusty, and are dated. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was large and had an amazing powerful shower. It will leave you feeling refreshed and renewed!
Room service menu was ok. I liked that I was able to place my order through the Marriott Bonvoy app. Food came fairly quickly and it was good. Not amazing, but consistently good.
The executive lounge is small but well serviced. The food there is fair, although the eggs at breakfast were subpar and nowhere near as good as what I got via room service. Shame.
Aside from the close location to the convention center, I return here frequently for the spa. It is small but a very nice and tranquil retreat in the city. I had fantastic couples massage on this visit! Definitely the spa is what elevates this hotel.
Overall another nice stay at the JW in LA, although the rooms here are ready for a refresh.

I recently stayed 2 nights at the JW Marriott LA Live while in the area for some meetings. The hotel was selected by our meeting hosts, but as a BonVoy Titanium Elite I was happy to stay at a JW Marriott. I've stayed at a few JW Marriotts around the world mainly in Asia and India and they have all been amazing properties with quiet, relaxing settings, beautiful rooms and amazing service. I wish I could say the same for this property. While there was nothing inherently wrong with the hotel, it just didn't feel like a top-tier JW Marriott property. The rooms were clean and comfortable but felt much more like a typical Marriott hotel versus a premium JW Marriott. The lobby was massive and because it is located in LA Live it was just a crowded, noisy sea of people. This is not a quiet, relaxing hotel in any way. I do have to say the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
My biggest complaint about this hotel and it is almost inexcusable was the terrible Executive Lounge on the 4th floor. First, it is way to small for the number of people that have access to it. There isn't enough seating during breakfast time. The food selection is actually quite limited, and again more like what you would find at a regular Marriott hotel. What was a complete disgrace was their over use of single-use plastics. Instead of having bowls of fruit to select from they had dozens and dozens of individual plastic cups of berries, pineapple, melon, etc... All of the yogurt was individual plastic cups. All of the coffee cups were disposable (No ceramic mugs) and all of the utensils were plastic!! For a hotel such as this, especially in California to use so much plastic was really bad.
Also, the lounge is supposed to be open until 9:30pm for dessert. I went in at 9:05pm to grab a tea and a snack before going to bed, only to find the staff had already completely cleaned up early. There was no food left out except for bags of pretzels and chips. If you're going to stay open until 9:30 then you need to have food available until 9:30!!
Unfortunately, because of the price, the terrible Executive Lounge, I do not think I would stay here again. Also, I had to do some laundry from the hotel service and while fast it was crazy expensive. $66 for 2 shirts and 1 pair of pants.

Dear Matthew B, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience at our hotel. We understand your comments about the Executive Lounge and wanted you to know that we have followed up with our team to ensure such a situation does not reoccur in the future. We always want to provide eco-friendly options in our lounge and apologize that those were not readily available. I have passed on your positive notes regarding our front desk staff, thank you so much. We appreciate your business and hope to welcome you back soon. I was a guest at the JW Marriot in December 2019 for 3 nights and parked my car with the hotel's valet. On the second day of my trip, I retrieved my vehicle from the valet and noticed that there was a significant dent/scratch on my driver's side door just above the door handle. My vehicle is brand new (less than 5 months old) and did not have a ding or a scratch on it when I left it with the valet.
I immediately contacted the valet manager and was advised to submit a report with photos and additional information, which I did. Several weeks later, I received a letter in the mail from a third party telling me that the hotel takes no responsibility for the damage. The hotel also refused to provide me with access to the video surveillance footage, which the valet manager assured me on the phone I could have the opportunity to review. If they have nothing to hide, why can I not see the footage??
I contacted the hotel again and asked what the appeals process was and was ignored for several days, but persisted until I was finally given a name and address (again, of a third party vendor) to whom I could send a letter making my case. However, after following all of their steps I have yet to hear anything more.
It is unconscionable to me that such a respected hotel property at a major venue in a major city would basically tell a guest 'too bad' when their vehicle sustains damage while in the hotel's possession.
Worse than that, the lack of care and the failure of the hotel's general manager (who I copied on all of my messages) to even respond at all or for anyone at the hotel to even offer any kind of an apology for this experience is beyond my comprehension.
I will NEVER patronize this hotel again, nor will I stay at Marriot properties since they seem not to care about their guests.

I have stayed in hotels world wife and never written a review. Unfortunately, I’m leaving Los Angeles early. So my teenager is a huge fan of basketball. I thought this hotel would be the ideal spot to stay. So with Covid-19 everything is shutdown. Okay, I wanted to make the best of a poor situation. However, not to be staying here. I get it morale is low, it’s quieter than your staff is used to but shouldn’t the customers that show up, tip everyone at least have a room and service worthy of the $$$ spent? 3 days, $800 usd not worth it. On top of this $$$ tip per person we engaged with
Pros: room was beautiful with a great view of the city.
Thomas and Vladimir at the Valet were polite and professional. Bellman and gentlemen who delivered our food great!
Cons: pillows were old and soft, bed is soft and lumpy. safe in the room did not work called 3x to have someone come, they knew this did not work before I checked in????why give me this room, 3 people and 2 hours into our Saturday later. We had to bring our valuables with us because the safe they told me worked didn’t. I came back to the hotel letting the associates at the desk know that the safe did not work and I was told they would send someone up to look at it. If the were unable would mind moving? I kinda did as I used Lysol throughout the entire room. Told the young lady no problem. Well 8 hours later, no call, update communication from the front desk or anywhere else. I absolutely refuse to call and am checking out early.

This has been our worst Marriott, no, hotel experience ever…
We’ve been staying in this hotel for 3 nights. We are Marriott Gold members and indicated in advance that we’d like to check-in early, at 11 am. Also, we’ve asked for a quiet room on the highest floor. After arriving, the woman at the first desk told us that there is no option for early check-in, we won’t be able to get our room before 4 pm…
We were hanging around in the lobby for about 2 hours…exhausted and waiting for any notice from the hotel that we can move into our room some sooner… After flying from another state, no options to change clothes or to refresh, this was duper disappointing. (BDW, we tried to contact the management via the application on Marriott’s website, but kept getting the message that the app is not functioning…)
After about 2 hours we got a text that our room was ready.
We moved into our room, and got shocked … We got a room on the 2’nd floor from the six, just above the bar. The room was super outdated, the bathroom looked like a public bathroom (issues on the bathtub fixed with duck tapes), and thanks to the adjacent door to the neighboring room, we heard every single word, conversation and noise of the people next door. The phone was only working in speaker mode, the legs of the ottoman’s were broken.
There was no indoor dining menu (probably because of Covid), so we checked the hotel’s website. The menu published online was not even close to reality…way less options, technically, no options at all. We finally ordered
two burgers…as it turned out for $30 each… without any customization options and way subpar compared to the price.
There was no cleaning for the 3 days of our stay, so we place our trash in front of the door, after bugs started appearing in the room.
Last morning we’ve asked the front desk to order a taxi for us and they have refused… but offered a phone number we can call.
Overall, for $600+ per night, this was very disappointing and ridiculous. Way subpar to Marriott. We love Marriott and after staying at Marriott in many different countries all over the word we believe this disappointing experience is only specific to this place, not to Marriott in general. We’ve complained to the hotel management, but we only got a super general response; the same they responded to many other guests who complained online over the past couple of years. For sure, we will never ever stay at this place again…
This has been our very first time in LA and we regret that we couldn’t spend more time researching our accommodation in advance… Obviously, we would have never ever stayed at this hotel...

Great location! Check in was easy, room was clean. Lots to do and really like the passport card with discounts. Minutes away from staples/crypto arena. Food was good. Must have vaccination to eat in restaurant. Two complaints, 1. They were out of king beds, which we booked a king, but no change in price 2. there was no do not disturb sign so we notified the front desk that we did not want cleaning and each day our room was cleaned and they did not have any DND signs.

This is my fourth time staying at this hotel. It’s a good business hotel.
The lobby is large, spacious, and welcoming. The front desk staff are mostly quite polite and good. Check in experience is always fairly efficient and painless which I appreciate.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable and well furnished. The bed is very comfortable although the pillows are not every good. The pillows are always very flat and lifeless. The bathroom feels a little cheap for a four star hotel, but in terms of the actual usability there is no problem.
During my most recent stay housekeeping has resumed daily service which is good. One thing especially good about this hotel is that it will allow food delivery agents to go up the lifts and deliver food to the door. This is a huge plus.
The hotel has a decently equipped gym although the room could use a little refurbishment. The pool is nice and decent sized and quite lively in the afternoon. The bar and restaurant are back in service. Food is barely one step above airplane food, but I don’t have high standard for LA—cultural desert whose culinary culmination is food trucks.
Generally positive experience except during checkout. The hotel charges a $32 daily resort fee with $20 that can be used towards food and beverage. Upon checkout I had a rather awful experience. Took over 40 minutes to find a bellman to help me with luggage. Took over a week and several calls to get a hotel bill, and my daily $20 F&B credit never kicked in, and I was charged full rack for the F&B spending. Other than this, it was a generally good stay.
I would come back if the hotel can address this issue. Getting charged for something I shouldn’t have and not getting any feedback for it is unacceptable.

I’ll make this short and to the point.
Check in was flawless. No upgrade available for platinum elite. Free breakfast for platinum elite.
Upon entering the room we went to fill the mini fridge and their was left over food from the previous guest. Dessert wrapped in napkins and a Togo box that we didn’t open. I called to ask house keeping to remove and they obliged and graciously gave a $100 meal credit. House keeping never came so after several hours we put it all in a trash bag outside the room.
I went to get food to go from the bar. Ordered a burger (28$ waygu) and a chicken salad. Upon getting the meal I opened everything and realized I was given a side salad instead of the $28 salad I ordered. They offered to remake the entire meal and removed the chicken salad from the bill. When I got to my room and opened the hamburger I was shocked to see they put two frozen Patties in place of the waygu patty. I hate eating at hotels and this is a solid reason why.
Hotel has nice lobby, uninviting bar, 2 star pool with no service, and good location.

I am not sure either. I stayed at this hotel to attend the concert which took place at LA Live. Though I saw a lot of concert staffs staying in this hotel, but I didn't see the celebrities/performers. Maybe they had special access.
Yes. Room card needed to operate the elevators.
