I chose this hotel for the area and proximity to the train station. Oh and because it sounded kind of cool. Sadly, although the lobby was striking, there were things wrong. The bidet didn’t work and the toilet was extremely noisy. The shower was awkward and there was no refrigerator. I know it’s not a brand new hotel but it did seem lacking. The safe, which we did not use, had a door that would not close and hung out in front of the table for quite a distance. The workout room was okay, although rather claustrophobic. Sad all around. Maybe other locations are better.
I stayed here over 2 years ago and returned because I like being in the middle of all those wonderful Japanese restaurants. The hotel is of good quality, but the decor isn’t particularly Japanese. The most distinctive feature is the bidet! Otherwise, it was fine, except for one of the two elevators being out of service. The staff are really nice folks.
In one word, this is the hotel that tops many of others I've stayed in in cleanliness and staff courtesy. We checked in in mid of July 2021. Hotel's staff followed all the guidelines in protecting their customers - mask wearing and availability of hand sanitizer throughout. The rooms were very nice and smelled fresh, unlike many other hotels that have that musky/filthy odor. The AC worked efficiently and cooled the room well. Everything in the room was super clean, including remote control, mini-fridge, all the surfaces and bathroom. I'm very particular about cleanliness. Initially, we were placed on the 5th floor and found that our bidet was malfunctioning. Having bidet in a hotel is one of the main bonuses. One complain to the front desk, particularly want to mention Tracy, and we were moved/upgraded at no charge to the 8th floor. The unit was spacious, modern, and even had a sofa! Tracy was super pleasant, brought a trolley for us to move our stuff to a new room, and made our stay absolutely unforgettable! Let me mention how soft and lofty the beds are! I had the most comfortable sleep in this hotel! Mattress pad and pillows were soft and supportive. There's a plethora of authentic Japanese restaurants within a walking distance and absolutely charming Little Tokyo decorated with lanterns. I wish we would be able to stay there longer to enjoy all the comfort of this little and affordable gem in the heart of LA downtown and sample all the restaurants. Also, want to mention a super pleasant gentleman, if I'm not mistaken...Jose, who works at the valet parking, who helped me and my teen daughter to load our heavy bags into a Lyft car when we checked out. Thank you all the stuff members who make this hotel a place to stay and feel like home! I can't recommend this hotel enough to all the parents of USC students and definitely will be back when visiting my daughter.…
I stayed 2 nights here, booked online without any issues. When I arrived at the hotel, I pulled out my credit card, an Apple Card, and was promptly told that it’s not accepted. Baffled, I asked why and was told “it’s not compatible with our system”. Beyond that, no reasonable explanation was provided. Just to be clear, I wasn’t trying to use Apple Pay, I was trying to use the physical card. They accept MasterCard, just not the Apple Card. This is a terrible experience for me. Whether it’s true or not, I’m under the impression that this hotel just wants to collect and probably sell my personal information.
My second trip to LA and happily returned to the Miyako. Centrally located in Little Tokyo, I love the clean quiet rooms, bidet toilets with custom warming seats, water and air. Bed are comfortable. Service is customer centric. Restaurant has very nice Japanese buffet breakfast. Close to lots of great sake bars, sushi and ramen restaurants, breweries and the rest of the Arts/Fashion and Warehouse district. It’s a great hotel to rest during your busy trip in LA!
