.....….when all the usual things happen, water hard as stone, frosty winds moaning and snow on snow on snow, then it’s an ideal time to visit McCloud and stay in the cosy, comfortable and welcoming Mercantile Hotel. The name is a bit of a give-away, in that the ground floor is a series of shops and a charming diner-style café...

Decided to stay an extra day in McCloud to fish and hubby wanted (and did) to jump off Lower Mccloud Falls. We bought poles in Mount Shasta but did not know how to rig them up, so (I believe it was Kevin) who thoughtfully did it for us that morning! He had a meeting, but offered to do them in...

Very charming mercantile in McCloud, CA. The shops on the first level are charming, fun, and lovely. The second floor welcomes hotel guests to warm wooden floors, Arts and Crafts decor, a family sitting room, and quaint, cozy rooms with private bath, claw foot tub, antique furnishings, and great character. Love this place!

This is so far beyond your average B&B that you will think you have gone to hotel heaven. The old-time building is a local landmark, and a living museum. Everything here was perfect. We stayed two nights, had fantastic meals, fascinating conversations with the owners, got as far up the mountain as snow would permit (in May!) and had a...

Every inch of this property is charming and beautiful. The first floor has boutiques and an old fashion general store along with two restaurants with a third coming soon. The second floor has spacious lodging rooms each decorated uniquely with antiques and collectibles. The bathrooms in each room are spectacular too! I can't say enough for the proprietors, they do...

Loved, loved, loved this place... and knowing its story made it all the more special. The rooms are old and authentic to the period, walls are thing, but what fun! If you are near Mt. Shasta, just go. And then drive the McCloud river route for some gorgeous falls.

We stayed in the Arts & Crafts Room on the 2nd floor (all rooms are on the 2nd floor of this hotel). It was impeccably restored, just an exceptional job. I felt like I was back in the 19th century, staying in a sumptuous frontier hotel. Our room was enormous, with high ceilings and sparse furnishings but sparse in a...

We made a last minute decision to spend a nite here with friends. Stayed in G. G's attic. Check in was done at store and you need to be there before 6 pm. The inn is up on 2nd floor. The common area has marginal furniture which was not comfortable and very poor lighting for reading. Our room and bath...

My wife and I stayed in the arts and crafts room. We were more than happy with our oversized comfortable room. This place has been around and the architecture shows it. The owners take pride in the upkeep and it shows. We had nothing but pleasantness all about. Breakfast was equally pleasant down in the restaurant.

Really nicely done, unique rooms on the 2nd floor of this mercantile building. You check in at the store on the first floor, which we noticed was full of interesting things (mental note to shop in the morning!), and the people who run it are helpful and very nice. We were there on a Tuesday night, not much open for...
