Don’t be fooled! This hotel on the train tracks. The trains hurtle and honk from 5am until 12am everyday past the hotel. You only get any sleep , if at all for 5 hours! The staff do not service your room unless you have requested it at reception. The mood at the hotel is somber and not inviting at all. The breakfast is basic which is fine as there are plenty of nice places to eat in Palo Alto. Not a pleasant stay at all!

We sincerely apologize for the train noise. One of the challenges of having a location so close to Stanford, Facebook and downtown Menlo Park, is the proximity to public transportation. Despite installing sound dampening curtains and white noise machines in all our rooms, we are sorry that you still did not have a quiet night. The City of Menlo Park is currently in the process of applying for a Quiet Zone. This would eliminate the horn blowing required at all train crossings. Keeping our fingers crossed. Please do not hesitate to call the front desk at any time, so that we can have the opportunity to promptly remedy any problems and provide the best experience possible.

We were in Palo Alto for my treatment at Stanford Health which required recovery time and enough space for my wife and I both to sleep comfortably. The two bedroom suite we had was perfect; it was spacious, well equipped, thoughtfully stocked and immaculately clean. For my medical visit I really appreciated the quantity and cleanliness of towels. When we arrived it was raining in Sunny California, so the underground, covered parking was a great amenity and was a short walk to the room. We had previously stayed in a suite at the Sheraton down the street for a similar visit a few years ago. For this trip we were looking for something less expensive and more spacious. We were considering VRBO options when I found the Residence Inn. Having the space of a VRBO with the convenience and services of a hotel was perfect and I felt like I knew exactly what I was getting. Some reviews have noted the train noise as a negative for this property. It is adjacent to the commuter train tracks, but we rarely heard any train noise and what we did hear was not at all disturbing. We were on the first floor interior, so this may not be true for every room, but train noise was not an issue for us. My only complaint is that the suite was rather sparsely furnished and poorly lit - some comfortable living room seating, a desk and chair and some bright lamps would make a nice place even better.

We stayed here for 10 days, specifically because of location and having a kitchen. Although we would return, this hotel has some "quirks." As others have noted, the hotel is very close to the train tracks--we heard train whistles all the time, and at night when the freight trains run, our room vibrated (Building C--farthest from the tracks!) On the other hand, it was a quick walk to the train station :-) - Our one-bedroom was quirky too, in that it had an outdoor entry and a huge bathroom that took up square footage needed by a small bedroom. However, everything was clean and worked. There was a spacious work desk in the living area plus we could work from the kitchen counter as well. Amenities were typical of RI including full-size fridge, microwave, stovetop, dishwasher and dishware. The room could use more USB ports--there were only 2, by the front door instead of near any work space. - The metal entry gate to Building C slams shut each time it's used, so guests in rooms 175 and 275 hear the slamming frequently. - Cleaning was by request and they do a good job. - Breakfast was very typical for RI with hot and cold foods and the breakfast staff is very nice. - The fitness room had a few treadmills, 1 elliptical and 1 reclining bike. It was also very clean and always stocked with water and towels. - Guest laundry is free and available in each of the 3 buildings. - Parking is expensive. - Aside from the train tracks, the location is very good--amid stores, restaurants and groceries like Trader Joes. - The hotel has a really nice outdoor courtyard area and grilling area.

I stayed in room #310-A which I could hear the trains. Despite the noise, I did like the size and set-up of the room. I was told that it used to be senior housing as the bathroom was very spacious for most Marriott properties I have stayed in. The space was immaculate as well as the overall property, including the gym. The breakfast buffet was very good and had lots of hot and cold options. Unfortunately, not all the guests used the gloves that were supposed to be worn when obtaining the items. There were other restaurant options that were in walking distance and would stay here again, even with the train noise.

As a Marriott Titanium Elite member I stay at Marriott hotels often; I have never had the bad luck of staying at a Marriott with a rail road 50 feet from my room. I had the misfortune of being in room # 207-A (AKA one of the rooms directly facing and closest to the rail road; fyi and there are a lot of these direct rail road view rooms!) During the busiest parts of the day the train passes by 4 times an hour but the minimum is 2 times an hour and the train hours run 5 AM to Midnight! As you can imagine I had two sleepless nights at this hotel, luckily my stay wasn't a business trip because I would have been a zombie the next day at the office! I made this room reservation over two months prior to my stay, as a Titanium Elite member I would have appreciated being given a room away from the rail road but it seems like the management at this hotel does not give priority to the Marriott loyalty program members (not even a Titanium Elite Member) Aside from this very significant issue there were other lessor problems. After driving 6 hours to get to this hotel with small children, I check in and was provided two room keys. We unload the kids and luggage and walk over to the door in building A and find that our room keys do not work. So I had to leave my spouse with our kids and all of our luggage and walk over to the other side of the property to get a pair of room keys that actually work. We ordered food via Postmates several times. We asked our postmate delivery person to leave the food at our door but it turns out the front desk did not allow him to enter the hotel they were required to leave the food at a table in the lobby. I called the front desk to find out if this was true, as this never happens at other Marriotts and sure enough the postmate delivery persons were not allowed to enter per hotel policy...so on three different occasions I had to walk over to the front desk to pick up my food but on the last day of my stay, I hear a knock on the door of my room and find that a hotel employee had brought me my Postmates delivery. I thanked him and said oh I though Postmates were not allowed into the hotel, he replied I am a hotel employee and that is correct the delivery drivers can't enter the hotel but we are happy to bring up the food...I was never offered this option the first time I inquired about the food delivery policy. On the flip side the room was very spacious and well kept and the property is in great condition. The room has a sound machine to drown out the train noise (which did nothing for me) as well as ear plugs which I did not use. The bedroom window has an extra pane of glass over the window frame to help reduce the train noise as well as a really thick sound absorbing curtain to again "help" with the train noise. I can see that management / ownership has made efforts to mitigate the train noise but the efforts don't do anything for the constant blaring train horn that make staying at this hotel, at least for me, unbearable.

We stayed here for six nights and were very happy with our room, the breakfast and the helpful staff. We visit family in Palo Alto and have stayed in a number of hotels in the area but the Residence Inn is now our favourite. The King studio suited our needs with a kitchen and seating area. We had space and enough seating to invite our family over for two dinners. During Covid restrictions the hotel felt safe. At our request there was no daily cleaning of the room but fresh supplies were always available. In the breakfast room we wore the gloves and used the hand sanitizer and then safely returned to our room to enjoy our breakfast. Well done Residence Inn!!

This is an excellent Residence Inn in downtown Menlo Park with top-notch guest service. Stayed 3 nights in August with my son while he attended the Stanford Baseball Camp. Warm, friendly service from GM Lia Kandel and her team at the front desk, housekeeping and in the breakfast area. Very clean all around and observant of COVID protocols. Had a one-bedroom suite in the A building; very comfortable bed and pullout couch. Nice kitchen area. Great bathroom with good shower and water pressure. Nice balcony to sit outside. Excellent complementary breakfast with eggs, potatoes, bacon or sausage and make your own waffles, as well as oatmeal, bagels, cereal, etc. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Menlo Park or Palo Alto.

I was here for just one night but it seems clear this is a hotel designed to cater for longer stays, about which more below. I checked in very efficiently and the welcome was very warm. I arrived with a car and there are a couple of options to park, either in a covered garage or in designated spaces around the hotel. Be sure to ask for a permit to park that one puts on the dash to avoid being cited for parking. I had to ask for one which is fine, but I think they are supposed to ask guests if they need one given the profuse apology I was offered when I requested a permit. The hotel is quite large, 3 floors and divided into 3 blocks. It actually looks and feels more like an apartment complex than a hotel. I was in block C and if you are concerned about noise from the trains I suggest you ask for a room here since it is furthest from the tracks. This is a fairly noisy location. The railroad runs very close to the property and the trains do whistle as they go through. This was fairly muted from my room and such things really don't bother me and I slept just fine. However, I know that this can be an issue for some travelers and there are rooms that are facing the tracks and close to them. If this bothers you, it is something to be aware of. On the subject of noise, there is some noise bleed from neighboring rooms (or room in my case) which is subdued but definitely noticeable. Again, this doesn't bother me, it may concern you. The room itself was excellent and seemingly designed for a longer stay. There is a pretty full kitchen with a stovetop, dishwasher, full refrigerator, coffee machine, and plenty of silverware/mugs/glasses etc. There's no oven or microwave so any cooking would largely be heating up on the stove but still, it is well equipped for a hotel room. There is a counter in the kitchen area under which sit a couple of bar stools. There is a sitting area too with a sofa bed and a desk with chair that could certainly be used to work. The bed in my room was large and comfortable, tucked away a little in the corner. There is a TV with many options including Showtime, HBO etc. that are free and although I rarely watch TV, this is a great option Marriott have started to offer in their rooms. The TV is well designed so it swivels for viewing in bed or from the living area. The bathroom is large and has a large walk in shower rather than the ubiquitous tub and shower curtain and is infinitely preferable in my opinion. I like to soak in tubs but that is impossible in the shallow baths so commonly provided across the US, shielded by a wet shower curtain. The walk in, large shower is the way to go. All in all this was a great stay and I slept very well. I would certainly stay here again without hesitation. It was very clean and tidy and the staff, friendly. Location is good for the area with plenty of restaurants around as well as grocery stores etc. although most of the immediate surroundings are residential. Just be aware of the train noise if such things are bothersome to you.

I just wanted to note that all our rooms are equipped with a microwave. They are located above the stovetop, with the exception of our ADA rooms, where the microwave is counter-level. I stayed here for three nights on a post-vaccine visit to family in the area. Super, super clean, everyone safely masked, amazingly friendly staff, and the breakfast options were very good down to the coffee. Comfortable bed and spacious room. Very quiet. I heard a train only once and very faintly. This will be my go-to place every time I'm in the area. Thank you Lluvia and team!
