Creepy. A Hosteling International-affiliated venue, this place is unique in that it resides in a private residence in a single family home. Thus, due to "safety and security" concerns, the address is not listed anywhere. When one is ready to make the sojourn to this place, one must phone and be given the physical address. Not very inviting. The elderly...

this place was perfect for a stop over when you depend on public transportation. The owner picked us up and took as to the train the morning after. All worked fine and it was perfectly clean. what else do you want?

This was a hostel that I both liked and disliked. There are aspects of it that are really great and others that are stupid. Lets start off with the good. The price is reasonable. The rooms are clean (beds are squeaky but oh well). The house is nice and the owners are your stereotypically charming old Californian couple. Breakfast is...

Lovely old couple hosted me just for the night. I think it was a great stopover since the host had willingly picked me up from the Merced Amtrak Station. I had a nice shower at night, chat a little with Larry on his adventures and his family. After a good rest, I had breakfast (Toast + Hot Choco/Coffee/Tea) in the...

We happened apon this hostel by accident after missing our bus connection to Yosemite. The host was more than happy to come and pick us up from the amtrak station at 9pm. The hostel itself is more like a family home and you are treated as one of the adult children in the host couples family. There is one mens...

I agree with the comments of Warwick290, particularly with regard to having to leave early: however, there was an upside to both early-morning starts. On the Sunday ("we go to Church so must ask you to be out by 8 a.m."), I caught an earlier bus than planned for my trip to Yosemite; the following day I was dropped off...

We stopped here for one night on our way to Yosemite. It's a pretty wierd set up, I have to say. It's in a suburb in a retired couples' house. Just one small dorm for men and one for women. It was comfortable enough but there is nothing to do in Merced. The owners grudgingly gave us a talk about...
