The pictures are deceiving. While the staff was very kind, the place did not live up to expectations based on the mostly positive reviews. Upon opening the door, the musty moldy smell smacked us all in the face. We left the back patio door open most of the time we were in there, even though the patio was shared and separated only by a peeling piece of masking tape on the floor. The furniture is worn and tattered. The bathrooms are dated, though mostly clean. Breakfast was befitting the motel status: frozen waffles, cereal, bananas, etc. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. All in all, due to the smell, we would not stay again or recommend to a friend unless they are able to switch out the carpets, etc.
We made a last minute plan to get out of town in spite of the virus and were delighted to get a fabulous room at this great hotel, close to everything. The room was spotless. I had mentioned that we wanted to bike and they were kind enough to upgrade us to a room with two queens and a fireplace that opened onto the common patio where we were able to lock up our bikes. It was great having this huge deck to ourselves listening to the trickling creek and seagulls. Appreciated that breakfast was included, we picked up a bag of prepackaged items. We also had brought food with us which we used the fridge for and enjoyed lunch on the deck. The Colton Inn is just a 5 minute walk to the historic district and Alta bakery at the Cooper Molera Adobe, and 10 minutes to the wharf. We loved biking on the bike trail to Lover’s Point and the lighthouse, an easy trail with stunning views! Beds very comfortable, shower exquisite according to my teen who appreciated the adjustable height. TV with HDMI cable we hooked up to laptop for Netflix. It was a lovely 4 nights! Thank you!…
My friends and I rented multiple rooms for Monterey August Auto week 2021. Ellen the hotel manager is top notch. She performs yearly maintenance on the property to keep it in excellent condition. The rooms and facilities are exceptionally clean. The room has high end toiletries which is a nice touch. It is obvious Ellen takes pride in the property she manages. She is also a great people person who worked with us while we booked our rooms and during our stay. The property is an ideal location to walk Monterey and an easy in and out of Monterey by car to other local locales. I highly recommend this property.
We had a good one night family stay here in August 2021. Although our room was not fancy, it was clean and spacious. The hotel is quite centrally located and we could easily walk to the downtown Monterey area for dinner. We enjoyed the provided breakfast. And while all hotels in Monterey are very expensive on summer weekends (including this one), I thought the price was reasonable and certainly in line with other hotels in the area on the summer weekend when we traveled here. The only (minor) issue is that the beds were on the firm side. Overall, though, I would probably stay here again, especially if the rate was reasonable.
Full transparency, I haven't stayed at an Inn in over 20+ years however we were in a bit of a bind and surprisingly there were very few hotels with any availability. We decided to give this place a shot and it was actually great. It was clean, in a great and safe area, parking was free and convenient and the bed was super comfortable! They even offer free breakfast, which we didn't take advantage of. Obviously, if you're looking for a luxury stay, this is not your place, however, if you plan to be out most of the day and just need a place to crash, this is it!
