Given the price and location on California Ave with lots of good food options nearby, this is a great option when visiting the Stanford campus. Despite the name having "Hotel", this is a B&B with limited checkin times and limited space for storing luggage between checkout and departure time if departing late in the day. Rooms are small and a...

This hotel has a major bedbug infestation as of February 2016, at least in Room 114. The woman at the front desk did not seem concerned, either, and didn't even offer a refund. Do not stay here under any circumstances! No matter how cheap it is, it isn't worth it.

This is a minimalist old style hotel with small clean rooms and a nice small kitchen for breakfast. Having breakfast in the little kitchen is like being home. Misty is really a friendly host. The surroundings are animated with nice restaurants and pubs. This is a good place to stay if you visit Stanford.

This is a very interesting old style hotel in downtown Palo Alto. The outside is new,but the inside reminded me of staying in small hotels in Europe in the 60's. And that is not bad. The rooms were small, but comfortable and clean. Kind of romantic, actually. My wife and had breakfast at Joanie's right across the street, which was...

We were in Palo Alto for the medical facilities available through Stanford University. The California Hotel has a great location in a retail commercial area with wonderful restaurants and shops. It is also in proximity to quaint (historic) residential streets and a good walk into the Stanford campus. The rooms are small, clean, with mix of well-worn furniture - not...

I was a bit shock upon arrival. Carpets and decor are tired that plus the colours, makes it look dirty. Rooms are tight. So could use a good refit. However staff are super helpful. There is a farmers market on Sunday morning. Many restaurants and cafes around. The Margerite or Stanford's transport is a couple of blocks away.

When running a lab in the area, this used to be my first choice for housing visiting job candidates. After moving away, I used Hotel California several times when back in the area. It was modest, but quite adequate. This is my first (and last) visit since new management took over. My room was a long list of maintenance problems,...

We were in town for my husband's fellowship interview at Stanford and the Hotel California was perfect for our stay! It is a small hotel, so naturally doesn't have all the amenities of a large chain hotel, but it has everything you would need for your stay. And is within walking distance to a ton of great restaurants, shops and...

I loved my stay here. I was bike touring and ended up in Palo Alto one night, unprepared for how insanely expensive lodging is there. Hotel California to the rescue! I could afford to sleep indoors! The rooms are simple and attractive, and I loved the roof terrace and kitchen. It's in a sweet quiet little downtown with restaurants and...

Have breakfast on the rooftop, walk to the bakery two shops away, take the train to SF--this is an easy, well located place to stay. Rooms are very tiny, European style, but comfortable. Make your reservations for Palo Alto High School or Stanford Graduations well in advance (try the Fall!)
