I'd actually rate this hotel as between Average and Very Good, so a 3.5 star rather than just a 3. The hotel itself is quaint and charming in the old-world type of way. If you like history, this hotel has done a pretty good job of preserving a lot of its original setup. However, it does require some upkeep and...

Staying at the Cardinal is like stepping back in time - ornate furnishings and old-world style decor combined with newer amenities. Be sure to try the elevator at least one time! I stayed for the first time on a business trip and had no problems. Noise from my room was minimal, all room features worked as specified, and I had...

Love the location of this hotel. Close to everything in Palo Alto and fairly reasonable for this area. Lobby retains it's classic 1920's era feel and the old style elevator gives one a bit of concern. However, the rooms are very comfortable with great beds, flat screen TVs and plenty of USB outlets. Services are minimal but front desk is...

What hotel in 2017 doesn't have a fitness center? This is an unrenovated, depressing mausoleum. Everything is dingy. The rooms are small and the bathrooms tiny. Spend the extra money to stay at the Sheraton around the corner.

loved this quaint hotel. great access to many restaurants. free parking across the street at City Hall. it was a bit noisy at night because of its central location but they provide free ear plugs, which I used.

The building dates to 1924 and it certainly has character. Some rooms have their own sink and others actually have to share the facilities (but with a much lower room price). Indeed this is "value priced". The rooms have ceiling fans and old fashioned radiators for heat (and which work pretty well). The internet is complimentary and works well (it...

Hotel is old and preserved with modern updates. Only amenity is free wi-fi. No breakfast, although they give you a (single) pass for a light breakfast at an expensive place next door. It's within walking distance to a lot of restaurants in downtown Palo Alto. Also just a 5-10 minute walk to the Palo Alto Station where you can catch...

Enjoyed my stay at the Cardinal immensely - the rooms were more than comfortable and had all the modern luxuries you'd expect from a Palo Alto hotel, including cable TV and fast wi-fi. Good location for walks to the Stanford Mall, University Avenue and train transportation directly into San Francisco. Would highly recommend for business or pleasure.

Over the years the Cardinal has been cleaned up and modernized, but never lost its charm. The rooms are spotless, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location cannot be matched. If you choose a room without a bath the public showers and bathrooms are equally clean. The lobby is very definition of what a lobby used to be. Sit...

Excellent place to be in Palo Alto, with a great location, near from restaurants and Train station. The hotel has the warmth of a home, it's quaint and ideal to young travelers. The rooms are spacious and comfortables
