Great historic property that has been updated with modern conveniences. Well maintained interior shows patina of time, not a mindless change to make things "new". Let the vintage be the vintage. Private baths, wifi, flatscreen tv, comfortable room and bed. Smaller rooms than chains, but plenty of room and vintage fixtures. Will certainly return.

Definitely not a chain hotel; charming in its own way. Because of the age of the building, there are signs everywhere reminding you that it might take 10 minutes for hot water to reach your bathroom, that only one person with luggage or two people can ride in the elevator (which does not level with the floors) at one time....

I stayed Thursday - Monday for my 10 year high school reunion. Awesomly historic hotel (don't stay if you don't like old buildings) with awesome staff. Very clean, and everyone was very helpful and nice. There is street noise from the bars on Main Street, but I'm a city boy so it didn't bother me.

Stayed here for three days. The hotel is historic, but, it isn't well maintained. It trades on photos of western figures, but, does not provide the quality of stay OR cleanliness that one would expect for the price.

I was looking for an interesting hotel right in the historic downtown area. It was easy to spot this landmark as I drove down Main St. I've stayed in old historic hotels in the past, but often find a lack of comfort. This was certainly not the case at the Carey House Hotel. I received a very warm welcome and...

When I visit Placerville I always stay at the Cary House. It is a quaint, historic hotel with sparkling clean rooms, lovely ambience, helpful staff and right downtown so once I park my car, I can walk to shops and dining. Take a trip in their antique elevator for fun and sit on the 2nd floor balcony after dinner. It's...

Talk about history, you feel like you walked into a western movie set. There is not one thing about this hotel that says modern. Old in a good way, not run down, but don't expect the Holiday Inn. They even have the original ledgers with many famous people's signatures where they signed in to stay all the way back to...

During a prior year's trip to Placerville we saw the Carey House Hotel, thinking that while it looked sort of dingy from the outside it may be an interesting place to stay next time around. So this year we booked it for three nights, checking into a second floor queen room. We've stayed at the Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill...

While it has been a while since we were there I am compelled to review them again. We were going to be there for a visit this week but do to airline shenanigans we couldn't make it for our stay. The staff was completely understanding and allowed us to cancel our visit. Service like this will bring me back again...
