The hotel is well located for the historic part of Santa Barbara and the restaurants/cafes and shops of State Street. Staff were helpful, particularly the valet staff with top tips of where to eat. Free bikes were also good. Downside - unbelievably paper-thin walls. Every day we could hear the guy next door either on speaker or yelling at some sport event on TV. Very noisy plumbing - when next door showered the noise was almost deafening. And, whilst plenty of clean towels, there is no where to hang them once used, particularly annoying for the hand towels. The restaurant was only open one night that we were there and we didn't eat so cannot comment on the food. Would I stay again - doubtful as I would be too concerned of noisy neighbours. Shame as the room was nice and very comfortable bed.

The staff were great. That said, while the location, which clearly drives the rates, may have been a real draw pre-pandemic, most of downtown has been gutted by the pandemic. Many restaurants and shops have closed, the City really has a lot of work to do on the homeless challenge, and there’s really not much that you want to be close to anymore. The hotel is very dated, in a bad way. Furniture is damaged, tiles in bathrooms are cracked, elevators are rusty and dirty and there’s a general lack of maintenance. And the walls are paper thin, so good luck if there’s a loud group anywhere close. One more thing. They have those horrible motion activated thermostats, so the HVAC shuts of periodically during the night and the rooms get hot or cold. Terrible.

The hotel is beautiful with a heated rooftop pool and jacuzzi (all working and open)! It’s walkable to State Street and all the shops/restaurants and a quick bike ride to the beach (hotel bikes are available for guests to use)! The entire staff was amazing from start to finish; really exceptional service! We couldn’t get our chrome cast to work in our room and the concierge comped us parking for all nights and a movie rental without any prompt from us. My husband left his Apple Watch there when checking out. Someone from housekeeping turned it in and the hotel called us to notify us before we even knew we left it behind. The beds and rooms were nice and clean. I would highly recommend staying here while in Santa Barbara!

We chose the Canary Hotel as our original wedding venue prior to Covid-19, based on the fact that they hosted LGTBQIA+ weddings and as a lesbian couple, this made us feel very comfortable. We were very excited to have our wedding night at the Canary Hotel and were warmly greeted by the front desk. We excitedly opened our room to find a gorgeous cheese board and a beautiful bottle of wine. Our delight quickly turned to disappointment when we read the tag: Welcome Mr. and Mrs (insert last name). Which is an issue because we would be addressed as Mrs and Mrs. When addressing the issue with the front desk, the matter was laughed off, not taken seriously, and no apology was offered. We would love to make the Canary Hotel our destination for our anniversaries in the future, but with the incident at the front desk, we aren’t sure it’s the best choice for a lesbian couple.

Nice hotel, very good service. The walls are thin. There was a crying baby for two days. I felt sorry for the parents too. The King suite has a nice bed, a second room if you have a mate that can’t sleep with or without a crying baby… some suggestions: AC plugs bedside for phones. Charge a little less for parking ($40)… put a basic coffee machine in the room or coffee in the lobby… George Clooney was wrong. Nespresso no bien. Lastly, get a new food and beverage manager… the restaurant and room service menu is a C-… Put a burger, club sandwich, some soup on the menu… especially for room service. You force us to go elsewhere… evern for a twenty dollar burger.
