Belmond El Encanto, a Forbes Five-Star luxury hotel, has been meticulously restored to capture all the romance and glamour that endeared it to both the local Santa Barbara community and visitors alike. As part of Belmond, this is the company's first excursion to the American west coast. Ninety-two quintessential, California-styled suites and bungalows dot the lush, terraced grounds featuring seven-acres of gloriously landscaped gardens with sweeping views of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean. Original architectural features have been lovingly restored, including the historic, trellis-lined Arbor and Lily Pond. Modern additions to the expansive outdoor zero-edge pool and a new beautifully appointed boutique spa enhance the journey for today's luxury-seeking guest.

loved to hang out at the pool with magnificent views. Each room / villa is very private and the staff is vey class and careful. We had such a good time. We enjoyed the restaurant view great views on Santa Barbara. The concierge helped us book great restaurants and activities to discover the surroundings. First time here was great, this was the second time and notably worse....granted, there was construction which is acceptable by most standards. The staff were generally nice but there was one particularly rude manager. I merely asked if they had an HDMI cord and the response was not pleasant. For the amount of money we paid and the advertised quality of the hotel, it marred my view of the facility. A shame. In addition, the in room dining was not quite as delightful as the first time around, the food options decreased and were less tasty. In the hotel's defense, Covid has been difficult to cope with in regards to maintaining quality and quantity. Regardless, Santa Barbara is an amazing place to visit regardless of where one stays; it was a great location to relax in during the uncertainty of things.

Mattress was terrible. Super hard. Way to cloud like. Horrible pillows. Room was dated. It’s expensive so you would think it would be exceptional al sleeping but there were a million little lights in the room so you had to have an eye pillow. Food in room Wasn’t great.

When we chose Santa Barbara for my birthday getaway destination, we were initially deciding between El Encanto and the Ritz-Carlton. Based on overall reviews, we ulitmately chose El Encanto, and we're so glad we did! This was hands-down one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had, and as a couple who has stayed at 5-star hotels all over the world, this is no small thing. This was our first experience at a Belmond property, and I must say this may be our new go-to hotel brand for future travel! We stayed in a Deluxe Terrace King, which was surprisingly spacious, on top of being well-designed, with a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains from the terrace. The bed was comfortable, and we both enjoyed restful sleep. We had several meals at The Dining Room, which were all memorably delicious (the avocado toast is exceptional), and hosted by attentive and friendly servers. Overall, what made our experience at El Encanto was the service! Truly standout. There must be something in the water there, because everyone from the valet team to the front desk team to the concierge just continually made us feel like welcome family. While anyone can be "nice", there was a genuineness and attention to detail that went beyond what I've experienced at similar properties. It made our time there even better than "great". Was this first-timer's luck? We'll see...since we've already booked a return visit in March! So stay tuned...

After spending around 2000/night, we were extremely disappointed with our stay. The beds were very uncomfortable. The in-room dining was very slow and one night they didn't answer their phone so we had to order local food to be delivered to us. The check in day was an odyssey - took us forever to get our room. When we left something in the original room (including medicine) they couldn't locate it for hours. The lobby bar took 30 mins to deliver a drink. We asked for a table to dinner at 5pm (the restaurant was empty) and were told they had no availability all night.
