Pros: location, love old buildings Cons: Restaurant and bar noise, innkeeper noise from room above ours from 12-1 a.m., hard bed, train noise. Poor continental breakfast. We were told they purchase baked goods from a local bakery. Clearly they shop at Costco. Lacks personal touch you would expect from a bnb. Run more like a motel than bnb.

My daughter and I rode the train up from Martinez for a short weekend getaway. The people who checked us in and out were very friendly and our room was clean and comfortable. We LOVE trains so it didn't bother us that the freight trains go by about every hour or two throughout the night, but if you don't like... More

The only reason that River Street Inn is getting two stars rather than one is because the bed was comfortable. We stayed in the suite which was quite spacious, but rather dusty with large cobwebs in most corners of the bedroom. It felt like it had been a forgotten room. The noise, however, of the passing and honking trains throughout... More

My family and I recently stayed at this B&B. The room was small, but nice. The location was in historic downtown Truckee, and very close to Donner Tahoe. My only complaint was that breakfast had a late start. Most people that visit this area in the winter like to hit the slopes early, so having breakfast service start at 9:00... More

We rode the train up from Sacramento to Truckee to see all the great snowfall we've had this winter. The River Street Inn is literally located just a 5 min walk away from the train station in Truckee. For one night it cost a little over $200. Not a bargain considering the that advertised flat screen TV in our room... More

We loved the historic building and the location right in Truckee; we walked to dinner and all around town. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The living room area is wonderful for hanging out and the continental breakfast is delightful.

After years of staying at the Truckee Hotel for my wife's birthday we decided to shake it up and try some place different. That place ended up being the River Street Inn, and we couldn't have been more pleased. From the first time when one of the owners opened the front door for us, to our last day when her... More

Horrible!! No heat. Space heater in rooms. No one up front to help you out. Loud music from the bar downstairs. You can hear the guest in other rooms conversations. Wood floors that creak. Paid over $200 for no sleep and being cold. Never again!! Plus they wouldn't let me have 30 more min to check out. What kind of... More

The people who run this Inn are lovely, with two fine young sons "helping out" by being friendly and courteous to guests; so I wanted to give the place kudos. However, instead I will offer a few caveats. It's nobody's fault that "on the river" is a misnomer during this drought in California -- the poor little Truckee Trickle can... More

It was not possible to have less interest in us....and this combined with a grim breakfast and an poorly maintained facility gives this property two stars...as a gift. We seemed to interrupt the owners who were at the bar having lunch...and were kindly shown the room...we ordered a rollaway bed for a child and the room was so small that... More
