We are here for the third straight year on the 4th of July. Thunder Lodge in not some glitzy new hotel chain with plastic fixtures and free donuts…but what IT IS…is a quaint little group of family owned and run cabins that have a nostalgic appeal. We love the cabins even though they were built in 1948. The owners really...

Had a wonderful stay here. The stream in the property was so peaceful, and the cabins were clean and homey. The wireless worked great, and the kitchen was fully stocked with cooking utensils and dishes. We were glad to find such a nice place that was also pet friendly. The location is close enough to walk to a very nice...

I love staying at Thunder Lodge. I have stayed there off and on since I was a child, and it seems to always have the old homey feeling I remember. We raised our children visiting those cabins, and now they come as adults, too. As we get older, we appreciate the location more and more. We can sit by the...

I needed a place to stay in BV at the last minute that allowed dogs. I tried the Vista Court first as I've stayed there before but they were full. The Thunder Lodge turned out to be a delightful surprise...not that I was expecting it to be bad or anything...but for the money it was a great deal. The cabin...

What a great time! Our family was searching for a rustic setting for a much needed vacation that embraced children and pets. Needing to get away from the hectic bustle of our lives, tranquility was our priority Thunder lodge more than met our expectations!! The kids had a fantastic time, as parents we didn't feel the need to fret about...

While the setting is lovely & quiet, the rooms are dated with mismatched items on walls etc. Now for the poor stuff about cabin #3 - dripping sink in bath, shower head not adjustable to spray on your body so had to stand practically on top of the drain, side entry door would not & could not lock - door...

Just stayed 2 days in beautiful Buena Vista but was very disappointed in cabin 5 at Thunder Lodge. **The pictures on the website do not reflect the current conditions of this establishment.** and for these reasons: -Disgusting kitchen! Dirty, dingy, nasty looking decor. (whole in wall where you could see bathroom plumbing) -dated bathroom with dated dingy towels and a...

Just spent 2 nights in beautiful Buena Vista but disappointed in the lodging!! First it took awhile for management to answer door then we headed to our cabin that looked nice from the outside. Then we went in! Oh my! The kitchen was unusable and dated, was it really old or just gross, both really! We wanted to cook inside...

I have now stayed with my groups twice this year at Thunder Lodge. The decor of the cabins is really cute & comfy, without being pretentious. (I do suggest staying away from sleeping on the fold out couch, really NOT comfortable, but just ask for blow up air mattresses, that fixes it!) and cabin 3's heater really rattles. With that...

This place has tons of potential but I'm afraid our experience here was quite disappointing. I've stayed at a lot off off-beat mom & pop type places and I much favor them over chain motels. Yes, they often have some quirky little flaws, but I've never found anything worth complaining about...until now. I'll start out with the good stuff, the...

“Room tip: don't stay there”
livinglife66, 22 Oct 2016 | Read review
“These are cabins, not hotel rooms, so your best bet is just to call the management staff directly. I stumbled across their site via Craigslist. Sometimes that can mean a place is sketchy...in this instance it was just a property owner keepin it local. This is a real gem of a find and I think if your expectations are line line you'll feel the same way.”

“Check out the photos on-line before choosing your cabin. The ones by the river have no mountain views but are more private. The ones with the views are on city streets but still quiet.”
