My family stayed at High Country Lodge for our snow skiing vacation. It's much more of a convenient drive up the mountain than staying downtown Pagosa Springs.

There are no restaurants within walking distance. The High Country Lodge is on the highway that goes over Wolf Creek Pass. You will have to drive into town for everything. A lot of the new places in Pagosa Springs are on the end furthest away from the High Country Lodge.
If you are looking for a convenient location, someplace in town might be better.
