A couple of friends and I stayed at the Mountain Motel during the beer festival in Salida. The room was very clean and cute. The owner at the front desk was very helpful, accommodating, and informative. I would absolutely stay there again.

Motel room did not have toilet paper. Curtains falling off rods. Shower head had to be fixed in the AM prior to shower. Room did not include room service including replacing wet towels. Room is old and tired. TV works fine. Hotel owner is friendly.

Loved this quaint privately owned motel. They worked to give us a room when we erred on the dates of our arrival/departure. The room was excellent and the bed very comfortable. The quiet cool patio area outside our room was a pleasant surprise. We will stay again soon.

Enjoyed my stay here very much. People friendly and helpful. Always had homemade cookies available in office. Coffee also and sometimes fresh popped popcorn. Would stay here again in a minute. Close everything we wanted to do while at Pigeon Forge.

We stay at Mountain Motel every single time we are in Salida. Motel rooms are great and cabins are quaint and adorable. They are Conveniently located. Very clean and nicest hosts ever. If you need anything they go out of their way to help you. Cooking facilities in cabins are small but great if just 2 people or family with...

We were going to stay at one of the major chain hotels, but because they were booked, we tried this motel. Soooo cute. The cabins were full, so we stayed in a hotel room. It's like Goldilock's motel... It's just right. Nothing fancy, but very well taken care of and extremely clean. Next time we are in Salida, we will...

My boyfriend and I stopped over in Salida for a night on our way from Denver to Taos & Santa Fe. The Mountain Motel was a great spot to stay! Another reviewer described The Mountain Motel as just shy of being a boutique destination - and I think with a few small updates here and there, I agree! It had...

The owners are very nice. The cabins are neat. The comforter was not clean and it freaked my wife out. We decided not to stay but one night and travel to Crested Butte due to incoming snow storm, which was the plan anyway.

For a small town, this motel was a nice quaint departure and quite pet-friendly (a must when travelling through Salida). The price was right and the owners were friendly as well. We'll stay there again on our next trip down or through. We stayed in one of the cottages.

Cabin was cute and homey, but lacked some simple qualities that could have made things great. When we arrived to the hotel, the room was about 55 degrees and took a while to heat up with the old heating system. The shower also seemed to be affected by the neighbors and was either way too hard, or hardly a drip....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hitchin' Post Motel, formerly know as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin' Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947... Over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin' Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room decor. Their vision to make the Hitchin'Post, Salida's FIRST "boutique mote;" and reinventing an American icon - the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin'Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner's own style to make each room personable and "one-of-a-kind." Room decor is "Mountain Western Retro" - reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940's, 1950's, and early 1960's. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of "motel art," where updates and decor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the "boutique motel" experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin' Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains - we love it when our guests are pleasantly "surprised" to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our "Mountain Western Retro" experience! Whether it be... Sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special "Hitchin'Post Ice Tea on a hot day... Your stay at the Hitchin'Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
