I needed a change of environment and this hotel provided the decent venue for a gate away. The rooms are large and comfortable.
You may need to bring your own cooking utensils if you plan on cooking a lot.

We booked this place to return to our roots at University of Delaware. Girl gang alumni reunion for football game and campus/ Main Street shenanigans. A quick Uber or 15 minute drive to Main Street for dinner options and strolling through campus. Nice spot across from game and tailgating but be prepared on game day to prove you are staying there. And parking can be full on Blue Hen Game days. It is an easy walk across to game for those not taking cars or wanting to pay for stadium parking. We booked suites that come with full kitchens with lots of tools but bring paper towels and bottle openers and maybe extra TP and body wash as the soaps were limited. There was only one King bed and one pullout in each unit so we ordered up some cots. The bed comfort seemed ok but the cots and pullouts comfort level kinda sucked. Worst night of sleep ever (cot) and I am not a sensitive sleeper. We had adjoining suites so plenty of space to hang for a big group (we had 7 plus some drop in visitors). There were lots of seating options which were great for morning coffee chats, pre-gaming before dinner or late night gatherings The rooms were a bit dated decor and a little less clean then expected but functional and tidy enough. There was no ice in the ice machines AT ALL. So BYO if tailgating or tournament-ing. The breakfast served up a lot of choices including bacon and eggs. There was a pool and gym available but I didn’t use either to comment. Lastly, the rooms prices were high to me for the level of quality but expected that for a game weekend: $240 per night per suite- end total. Ok so the main question: would I stay again? If I could find better quality in cleanliness and decor for same or better price to accommodate our group size well, then, no. Next time, we plan to try another option but if this the last option standing well, then, ok it’s not terrible.

I have been to 5 hotels in the last 7 days, this was pretty much in the top 2. Overall it was a safe, clean hotel in a good location. Staff was great. The breakfast was top notch!!!! Too often a hotel will say "free breakfast" and it's junk that you end up having to purchase a real breakfast from a restaurant anyway. This was not the case. Bacon, potatoes, eggs, real baked goods, great beverage selection. The breakfast took this review from average (3) to a 4.

Cons... while I wouldn't call our room "dirty" there were still items in the fridge, and recycling bin. The bed and pillows were very clean, but not overly comfortable, not terrible either though-- and the pool not being open was moderately disappointing. We had brought swim suits on this trip and never got to use them.

The night staff was kind and helpful. The room was fine except our shower (room 303) didn’t work, in the morning I asked for a new room. Employee was *immediately* crappy with me. At first I started matching her energy but stopped when it became super clear she was *crazy.* She legit yelled at me, called me a Karen for asking for a room with a functioning shower, told me she had a room with a shower but I couldn’t have it. It was legit bizarre. I had seen her yelling at another guest too but hadn’t seen the whole interaction - after my interaction I suspect the employee started the drama. I called corporate because we no longer felt safe and I had paid for two nights. The hotel manager did refund the first of the two nights but we had to find somewhere else for the second. I had booked ahead several months but luckily there are lots of hotels close in that areas so we found a better room up the street. I honestly can’t think of worse service I have ever gotten at a hotel. I appreciated the refund for the nights stay but I would have happily paid to not have that life experience. I sincerely hope that employee finds peace in life and a job away from humans.

When we arrived at the hotel (which we have stayed at before and did not have any serious issues) there were a host of problems with our room. I’ll list them: there was not a single bath towel in the whole two bedroom suite; one of the shower curtains was missing; there was a dirty towel on the back of one of the bathroom doors; there was no extra toilet paper; some of the shampoo/conditioner toiletries were missing; the freezer was making an extremely loud sound and we then realized that the fridge was not working at all; the “comforters” on the queen beds were mattress pads” the “comforter” on the king bed was a scratchy poor quality duvet insert; some of the trash cans were missing; some of the dishes were missing; one of the dining room chairs was replaced with an office chair; the entire place was overall not that clean feeling.

The previous paragraph only lists our initial issues with the place. Not only were there not towels in our room, but it took quite a lot of work to procure any once we complained. We were in a two bedroom suite with 6 people and they only offered us two towels when we asked. When we told them that was not enough they said they only had five. In the whole hotel?! And the towels we ended up with were clearly bath mats as they were so tiny they did not even fit around the body of a smaller sized woman. At least we got bath mats though because there weren’t any of those in our room either!

I will say that they did send someone up in a timely manner to fix the fridge and someone came up to change the beds, but with the same mattress pads as comforters and one of the beds was made up without a bottom sheet.

We were also initially told we would be fully refunded for the entire stay, but then at check out they only offered us one free night out of two. We talked them down to half of one night, which seemed generous on our part, but when I checked what I was charged it was for a full night, so we’ll be calling to complain yet again.

This was truly the worst hotel experience I or the other guests have ever had. We have stayed at this hotel before and it was fine, so I’m not sure what has happened, but it is a major problem.

The room was filthy, had moldy stains on ceiling, was infested with stink bugs, wreaked of urine, and had improper linens on bed. It was disgusting. After staying here twice a year for ten years because of location, I’m sad to say I just can’t go through that again. At minimum, they really need to invest in some deep cleaning, cosmetic upgrades, and paint. It really needs to be overhauled. The windows open (which is good), but one window had no screen. The window can easily be opened by a child, and would almost certainly fall out. It was just an awful disappointment to see how badly rundown it has gotten.

Took 4 tries to get an acceptable room! Original Room 408 wasn't finished being cleaned. Room 608 the AC was stuck at 78 degrees. Room 108 was pitiful!! Yes, the AC worked, however the bedroom door was cracked and no cylinder to keep door shut, bathroom sink was cracked, and the dust on the walls was horrible along with the water marks and mold(?) from the AC vent. It actually seemed like the gentleman took a Hilton Clean Sticker and just put it on our door to give us a room. We (my husband, his 85 year old arthritic mother and I) were too exhausted to complain again that evening so dealt with it until morning. Next morning, 8 am, I requested another room and was told none were available. I explained the situation and the room status, and suddenly a room was available but needed cleaning. I told her we would be out all day and to call when it was available. I finally called at 3 pm to find out it was ready, and was told "Oh I didn't know I was to call you". Finally room 308 was acceptable, it was clean and in one piece. We have stayed at this hotel many times in the passed, and the 2 bedroom suite works for us, however we were highly disappointed at the conditions and the treatment from the gentleman that assisted us. It felt like we were bothering him and he just gave us room 108 to give us a room. He did go into the room because he told me that he checked to see if the AC worked for us. Guess he didn't check the rest of the room. The girl that helped us was ok. All could have been avoided by telling us they needed an hour or so to reclean the first room for us. We would have left and returned later. Again, very disappointed and will never stay at this location again. I have reservations at another Hilton next month and am hoping the conditions are 100% better. I was never greeted as a Hiltons member nor was I treated like one. I have yet to hear from anyone from Hilton, only a standard email that the manager will reach out to me within 3 days, going on day 4.

This was my absolute worst stay at a Hilton brand hotel. I had completed online check in and chose a room on the 1st floor with a king bed. Upon arrival, I was told they didn't have that room available and was moved to the 2nd floor with 2 beds. Thank goodness I had 2 beds to choose from, as when I pulled back the covers on the first one, they were disgusting. There were stains all over the white sheets, as well as the white comforter. The second bed was not much better. Sheets were extremely worn and there was hair everywhere. Floors were not vacuumed. There was confetti everywhere from what I assume was a party in this room the night before. I even found what I am hoping was a popped white balloon and not something else on the floor between the beds. The room was dirty, walls were peeling, and there was something stuck on the wall above the beds. I actually went and bought bed sheets and a blanket from a store to use during my stay, as I was confident that if I complained the quality of replacement sheets would not be any better. No bottled water offered for Hilton Honors members. Toilet didn't work properly... wouldn't refill after 2 flushes. The front desk worker was very bizarre and did not make eye contact with you. To top it off, there was an additional $35 charge on my credit card after my stay. When I called to inquire, I was told that the coffee maker was missing so my card was charged for it. That is absolutely absurd. I guess that's what I get for not making a complaint while I was staying there. I promise that I will NEVER stay in another Homewood Suites, and am seriously wondering how the Hilton brand can allow one of their hotels to operate under these conditions.

Would not recommend this hotel. The fire department had to come to break down a door to get our friends out. Another friend had her belongings shoved into a trash bag while she was away from her room because they thought she was supposed to be checked out, but she was staying another night. The hotel staff even threw away some of her belongings. We brought balloons for celebration and they threw them away without even telling us. The rooms were dirty and smelled. Bath tubs were filled prior to checking in. One of our friends was given a room that was already occupied. The breakfast food was not worth eating. The hotel room doors were extremely loud when they closed, so it kept us up at night.

Undoubtedly the worst Homewood Suites we've stayed in, and like the previous poster, my initial thoughts were that this location should not wear the Hilton name.

Older building that was obviously another brand in the past, no automatic lobby doors, only 2 carts, tiny area for cars when checking in. Room was dated by 20 years including the original appliances. No ice machines in hotel. Our refrigerator ice maker was not working.

Shockingly, trash had not been removed from our room (see image.) We had a 2-bedroom suite and the fitted sheet on the king bed kept coming off...and there was no mattress cover beneath it. The blackout curtains didn't work well and had light leaking into room all night from the streetlight outside our window.

As a busines traveler who doesn't mind spending what we need to for multi-emplyee accommodations, this $335 / night room has us questioning not only the Honewood brand, but the Hilton name.
