Another superb weekend with Ian at the uniquely located House of Mark. Wonderful home cooked food from truly local, sometimes own ingredients, enough to sustain for even the most demanding walking. Ian even lined up the TV for the rugby and explained the rules to my friends. We will be back.

We stayed in this delightful B&B last October after a very dear friend had died. It was just what we needed. We were surrounded by the most beautiful countryside giving us the opportunity to do some lovely walking. The bonus was that the owners (Mark) dog led the way. We had breakfast while watching the red squirrels and birds. Mark...

I had a recommendation to stay at the House of Mark some time ago but haven't yet had occasion. However, did pass the place today on a walk up Mount Keen and noticed they're doing tea and coffee, cake etc. for passers by. A great treat at the end of the Mount Keen walk. Lovely staff and tea and freshly...

A beautiful mansion sitting in its own lovely gardens, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The owner, a solicitor from Englamd is a lovely man who took time out to join us for a cup of tea. The house is situated at the beginning of 4 different nature walks among the nearby glens. One walk will actually help u "bag a munroe"...

I stayed for one month volunteering in House of Mark and all I can say about it is that this place is magic: you are in the middle of nowhere, being hosted by a wonderful man, surrounded by mountains, lakes, and animals, and being as much comfortable as you could be in your own house.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to the House of Mark, a friendly bed and breakfast, formerly a manse set within two acres at the foot of the Cairngorms National Park amongst stunning scenery and spectacular countryside, great walking on the doorstep, within an area steeped in history. The House of Mark overlooks the Water of Mark and, along with the Water of Lee, forms the river North Esk close by renowned for salmon and sea trout. After your day sightseeing, walking whatever, sit in the tranquil garden listening to the wildlife and water flowing by, or relax in front of an open fire. You may be lucky to catch a glimpse of the “Northern Lights” (aurora borealis). When particles from space are diverted by the earth’s magnetic field they give off a shimmering light, only visible in the North sky from the Northern Hemisphere. What better way to release the stress of everyday life! An Aga home-cooked dinner is available for guests. ... more   less
