Detailed Reviews
Why people give this place less than a five is mesmorizing to me. The rooms are large and are all, not only facing the water, but on the water. It is absolutely spotless, which is the most important thing to me. The price is crazy low for just the reasons I stated. Yes, maybe it needs to be updated a little, but any Best Western or any other hotel desperately needs it more than here and charges a lot more. This place is quaint and charming. They do have a new owner, who is very delightful, and is updating it. Seriously, I am a picky b…, and I do not understand why, but others on this site feel differently. This place, anywhere else in the U.S., on the water would cost at least two times of what they charge. For the management, my only complaint is that the pool should be opened until 10:00, at least. I also hope it is heated. Thank you for a delightful stay!!

We headed south from KY and stayed here for a couple of months going south and a week going back home. Really great staff. The free breakfast foe slip holder's and hotel guests is a big plus. Shower facilities are large and nice. Sometimes could be cleaner. Laundry facilities good. We also took advantage of hotel for a couple of nights here and it was very clean and comfortable. We will definitely be coming back.

Had planned to go for 3 days but end up spending one. The room was nice and clean but that's basically what it is it had a bed a dresser a table eat at and that's all and a TV nothing on the walls nothing blank. We went there to go fishing but my husband was not thrilled with a dock he walked on the deck around the doc and it was unstable the boards were loose there was no place to really park the truck and the trailer together Unless you leave them on the main road in front of your room. We did hear a lot of noise from the traffic around the highway. If your expecting to go and find a nice beach town or resort town or something similar this is not it. It is a very small town not a lot of things to do there. We did not find a lot of restaurants open it was Thursday ! the one that we did find was a small little diner type that just basically serve sandwiches. The sandwiches were good but it's a sandwich. You can drive into Tallahassee but it's a little drive.
I don't think this area of Florida is on my list to visit again

What a disappointment!!! I was told one price by the night clerk then charged a higher price when I went to check out. The carpet was a filthy mess and the bed sheets were stained with an orange color stain. I got into town late and had no choice but to stay there but never again.

After driving the horribly unscenic roads lined with strip commercial, terrible pollution from all the refinery activity and almost total habitat destruction (500,000 gopher turtles, a conservative estimate, have been destroyed to near extinction in the upper Panhandle area, alone for example), from South Padre Island, Texas, to Panama City, and being exhausted, at ages 77 and 88, and 13 (the latter an old English pointer who travels with us), we arrived at our destination, The Moorings, at Carrabelle, our base when visiting wonderful Dog Island, where we would want to be should our health and pocketbooks allow. It was late at night. The cordial night attendant showed us to our room, which was, as always at The Moorings, immaculate, comfortable, commodious, quiet (unless your neighbor has a television , because the walls are not well insulated for noise and as far as we are concerned television is not an entity we crave and are therefore immoderately irritated by it when heard through thin walls) and perfect for us. We loved the little kitchenette, with its fridge and microwave (a stovetop would have been a fine addition, as we eschew restaurant food and like to cook for ourselves, being off-grid Vermonters with no patience with any sort of processed or fast foods). The staff people were all exceedingly kind and helpful. The rates at Carabelle are reasonable. Morning coffee, never adequate, made on the little machines provided in motels, is available and good at the restaurant several paces west of The Moorings' parking lot. The siilence outside, except for the sounds of nature and the inoffencive because limited sounds from an occasional car or truck, the views, the clientele, the staff, the parking, and the structure itself (except for the thinly insulated walls which offend old ears used to quiet) recommend The Moorings as maybe the last holdout on the entire Gulf of Mexico coast for civilized people. I speak as one who has visited the area repeatedly since age 2 and have definite if, perhaps, biased views of what is "civilized."

We planned on spending one night in Carrabelle during a trip to FL during Christmas week 07 and wanted to stay at The Moorings of Carrabelle.
The Moorings at Carrabelle is under renovation. This is a motel & condo type place on the bay water with a marina, boat slips, etc. It's right in town and on Hwy 98. No problem finding it. It's a nice place, great views and lots of boats.
We've stayed here previously but didn't stay this time because of the cost & the renovations. The cost has risen too high for the type of location it is. We can't afford it any longer!
Previously we enjoyed a 2 br condo with a large living & dining area as well as a nice kitchen at The Moorings. I'd love to see what the renovations will look like when it's done..

This was our first visit to The Moorings so we were not quite sure what to expect. First off, it is plain and no frills but the room was quite large with plenty of room for us and our dog. It was great to know they are pet friendly so we could bring our 5-month old puppy with us. The room was very clean, large and plain with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. All of the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. It was lovely and peaceful to just sit outside and watch the boats. It is right in town and very convenient to everything in Carrabelle. If you want the Ritz this is not for you, but it is comfortable and room ad good value.

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. We wanted to get away with our boat for our anniversary and the marina nice. We were able to bring our dog too! Room was clean. Had laminate flooring (for pets friendly room). Small town but we enjoyed our stay there and will be back. Did not try the breakfast there. We weren't told about it up front but there were signs posted that they had it?

Sleepy little fishing town where there isn't much traffic. Nice place to stop and watch the boats from a room balcony overlooking the water. Rooms were very spacious, bed was comfortable. Rooms are clean and the grounds fairly well maintained. Price is reasonable. Breakfast better than most hotels and the director of breakfasts Alida is a wealth of travel information.

If you are looking to get away from the crowded, bustling, tourist areas, but still be close to great beaches, amazing eco-destinations, and the historic side of Florida, I highly recommend this quaint hotel/marina. The office staff is great, special thanks to Jamie for putting up with my endless questions. If you are looking for fancy, this aint it. If you are looking for a comfortable place to lay your head after a day of exploring by land or by sea, then The Moorings is the place for you. They offer a free slip in the marina during your stay, so bring your boat, no need to drag it in and out of the water everyday. This area of Florida is known for excellent fishing. The Moorings is within walking distance of the entire riverfront in Carrabelle, and a great base from which to explore the "Forgotten Coast." The view from the hotel rooms over the marina and river are beautiful. Daily maid service keeps your towels fresh and your room tidy. Overall a great experience we will definitely be back.
