Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We had a hard time committing to a place to stay in Key West. Many places were overpriced, but we didn't want to be cheap on ourselves either. Even some of the very expensive places had bad reviews. It is also hard to judge a property from just pictures, as they are able to create media that makes anything look good. So, based on the pictures and reviews that we found for The Laureate, and the middle price point based on all the offerings for Spring break, we decided to stay here. We were not disappointed. The property looks very nice and clean, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are nicely laid out, spacious, and very clean. There is no waterfront associated with this property. You do have an ocean view, but there is the main road between the hotel and the water, which has no beach anyway. You will have to drive to get to most activities. We actually liked this because when you were worn out for the day, you could just relax in your room, on the balcony, or by the pool without all the hustle and bustle of the busy areas. We highly recommend this place in Key West, and would stay there again.

Response from Alberto Piceno, General Manager at The Laureate Key West
Responded 25 Jul 2024
Dear Eric, thank you for staying at The Laureate Key West. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We're glad to hear that you found our property to be clean and well-maintained, and that our staff was friendly and accommodating. It's great to know that you enjoyed the spacious and nicely laid out rooms. We understand that the lack of direct beach access might be a drawback for some, but we strive to provide accurate information about our location. For future visits, you might enjoy nearby beaches like Smathers Beach and Fort Zachary Taylor Park, which are just a short drive away. We hope to welcome you back for another relaxing stay. Sincerely, Alberto Piceno, General Manager.

We stayed at The Laureate over Christmas. It was my husband and me with our 2 year old, who needed a crib, and his aunt. Our first room was so tight. The sofa bed could hardly fold out with a fixed table in front of it and the tv above it. The bathroom was so small. It "worked" until we inquired if we could change rooms and they had a bigger one available and worked it out. The only thing was my little one and I were napping when the move was happening and the housekeeping staff started freaking out and said we needed to hurry everything up so they could clean the room. My husband woke me up and then someone started calling the room over and over and woke up my kid. Then we were told we could take our time. Too little too late. Our naps were ruined. Thanks (not really) from a pregnant lady and her tired toddler.
The second room was nicer and the bathroom much larger, so that was good, but we seemed to get attitude when we'd ask for towels or something else even though we never had the room serviced while we were there and thought we would be appreciated for that.
Having the pool was nice and we used it as much as we could on days when it wasn't raining. It was disappointing that the hotel is on the water, but not on a beach. I'm pretty sure it was advertised as being on a beach. Misleading.
The last day was the worst. I got overheated and started getting a headache as we were packing up. I really needed to lay down and have a nap, but we were told we couldn't have a late checkout. We got out of the room and I laid down in the lobby on the couch because I physically couldn't sit up. My toddler needed a nap too and she eventually fell asleep in the lobby despite the tv being entirely too loud playing Forensics Files. My head was pounding and when I woke up, I barely made it to the outside bathroom before vomiting. I was so, so sick. Thought I was going to die in the Atlanta airport on the way home. Sleep helped everything. If only I was able to nap comfortably in our room before flying out.
Also, the typewriters in the rooms, while cute, are seriously not practical for families with small kids. There should be a way to remove them from the room, so they don't have to be bothered with.

We were only one night but it was excellent. The reception girls very friendly. The rooms are equipped with everything you need in addition to being arranged with very good taste. All new and very clean, they have taken great care of the details, from the decoration to providing everything necessary. We were in a room with two queen beds with very comfortable mattresses. In the kitchen they have a fridge, microwave dishwasher, casseroles, glasses, cutlery, coffee maker with coffee, cream and complimentary sugar including liquid detergent and dishwasher detergent and the bathroom equipped with everything you need as well. Even an umbrella they had in the room! Also safe, hair dryer and iron. They have a television in the living room and another in the room. All very nice! I recommend it if you want to have a good stay without unpleasant surprises.

Don't let the pictures of this place fool you. It is a glorified roach motel.
We arrived at the hotel late Thursday night. Upon arrival, the office was locked (despite confirming in advance that the office is open 24 hours a day). I attempted to call the office but no one picked up. After approx 5 minutes, a man came by and unlocked the office door to check me in.
After checking in, we went to our room. Upon initial review of the room, we liked how everything was "new"/unopened from an amenities perspective (such as kleenex and such). However, we learned the reason why in the AM. When we woke up, we saw a minimum of 4 roaches within the room, concentrated in the bathroom and bedroom.
In addition to the issue with roaches, the balcony door did not open.
I addressed my concerns with the hotel in the AM, through text to keep a written channel. The team at the hotel did not even acknowledge the roach issue. I requested compensation for this issue (along with the balcony door) and they informed me they'd waive the resort fee for the balcony door.
Not only is having a room with roaches unacceptable, I find it horrible business practice to ignore the "elephant in the room."
In the end, I recommend you stay in your car over this hotel because at least you won't have to worry about bugs crawling into your belongings or startling you in the morning.

+1
Easy to find location, immaculate & very modern. All suites overlook the sea. Good on site parking. Good Wi-fi in all areas. Lovely pool, plenty of sun loungers, towels & guest complimentary fridge well stocked with bottled water, coconut water & cold towels (nice touch). Suites are amazing, tastefully decorated & stocked with everything you need (all glasses, crockery, cooking facilities & kitchen utensils). Good size lounge area & bedroom. Bathroom was lovely with big shower. It really is home from home, you could literally live in it. Sad to leave but hope to return soon. Top marks all round.
Just to be really picky I’d say the room safe was a little on small side, couldn’t fit in our iPads. There is an elevator to all floors to get to suites but sometimes you have to wait quite a while, it is small & can be busy, especially during housekeeping peak times but it’s not a problem. Like I say I’m just being really picky.
Within walking distance to Searstown shopping mall, Publix, Winn Dixie & other stores.
It’s about 2 miles from centre of Key West but there’s plenty of buses/taxis (about $12). There’s not as many restaurants close by as I would have thought but Outback Steakhouse (in Publix plaza) & Tavern N Town (at Marriott Hotel) were amazing.

We stayed here for 3 nights last week. It is prime location right next to strip mall with fast food places, Publix grocery store, liquor store, regal cinemas, bike rentals etc. Rooms are spacious with kitchenette and great ocean view. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable bedding, furniture and modern decor. Kitchen is efficient, equipped with dishwasher apart from stove, fridge microwave and cabinets. Pots, pans and silverware were enough for four of us. Pool is decent size and was accessible till late. Our stay was truly comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend this place.

Really impressed with this hotel. Rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff did a great job keeping things clean and fresh and were very diligent at sanitizing. Not only was the staff and room nice, we had an amazing view of the Gulf and sunset. The staff even helped coordinate bike and golf cart rentals for us.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom suite, the 2 upstairs Bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms, lower level bedroom had shared bathroom by kitchenette and living room (Sleeper sofa). Kitchenette has fridge, tiny dishwasher and 2 countertop burners and was stocked with some pots, cutlery, glasses/mugs and dinnerware.
Pool is small, surrounded by palm trees and plants, but has a lot of road noise from main road. Pool area had ping-pong table and pool floats for kids. Front desk staff weren't very welcoming, just average during check-in/out process.
Hotel is close to Publix and other stores and variety of restaurants. Overall, nice stay, and would definitely return.

Everything is new and extremely clean! The front desk staff is great, told them when we booked it was our anniversary as well as my wife’s 30th birthday. When we checked into our room they had a birthday card on the kitchen table. In the fridge we found a birthday cake as well as a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. Awesome view of the water from the balcony and room was extremely quiet. We didn’t hear any of our neighbors at all when inside the room. Housekeeping is very friendly and do a great job. Everything we used (towels, keurig coffee pods, dishwashing detergent, rolls of paper towels, literally anything we used) was replaced each day. Super awesome stay and I would recommend it to anyone!

The ladies at the front desk were awesome and extremely polite and helpful. We checked in on 1-08-20 and they made our first day so wonderful!! The rooms are great and clean!! The only negative is the location. It’s my first time in the key west and it’s a $15 Lyft ride to old town or a 3 mile bike ride or walk. We rented bikes through the hotel and it was great and saved the day!! Thank you ladies and I’d come back just because of you!! Well done!!

Yes, for a fee and I believe there may be a size/weight limit. The fee was $50 or $75/ night.
