Kimpton Hotels made their Key West debut in March 2020 with the launch of 4 unique properties all located pretty much in the heart of Key West; Winslow Bungalows, Ridley House, Fitch Lodge and the Lighthouse Hotel.

Given my stay was during Covid-19, just after the Keys opened up, I chose to stay at the only open property, Winslow Bungalows. Needless to say the property was basically new closing only a week after they opened!

Overall the hotel was very impressive. Winslow Bungalows is the largest of the four properties (yet still very intimate), with classic Victorian style conch bungalows spread across a large and lush land package. The rooms have a modern design to them that I would say can be described as minimalist chic yet still maintain that floridian flare (I tried checking the furniture tags as I wanted a few pieces for myself as the colours and patterns are so unique). The rooms are spacious and most have their own outdoor space, some just more private than others depending on what you book, and the bathrooms are stocked with great products. The grounds here are what really stand out with lush foliage in abundance everywhere you turn, creating a secluded sort of tropical oasis in pretty much the middle of town. There are lots of cute little enclaves to sit and relax with a drink or book surrounding you in nature which is a great contrast to the more hectic vibe once you venture off the property. There are two small pools at this property, that are cute but a bit underwhelming with an outdoor pool/bar restaurant located at the smaller one. The staff were fantastic I will have to say, check-in and out was extremely pleasant and they even decided to upgrade us given they were not at capacity. Even in a tough and off time for all they were just so pleasant and happy and welcoming, nothing seemed like an inconvenience.

After much research, I will have to say this is the most luxury hotel experience in Key West. If and when I come back I will not even consider looking outside the Kimpton properties. If I got to stay longer and enjoy more I would have done a full blog post - maybe next trip!

I have included a bunch of photos in this review as the majority of the photos in the Kimpton/IHG website/Trip Advisor/Expedia/Booking etc look to be much like the old photos from the properties prior to Kimptons complete overhaul so they do not highlight just how cute and much improved this and the other properties are!!

You do have to pay to park though which is odd as its the only hotel of the 5 we stayed at during our road trip through the Florida Keys that made us do this

The hotel is easily walkable to town and all the sites so the location is also great!

Could not have asked for a better stay at a hotel! We called with booking questions and Ashley was able to answer all our questions and provide suggestions on which room would suite us best. When we arrived, Robert went above and beyond all expectations to make sure we were comfortable, provide local restaurant and attraction suggestions, and accommodate us to the fullest. When my teenage daughter wasn't keen on sharing a bed, he searched all four properties to find an air mattress. Then the phenomenal night manager (who's name has escaped me, but he worked July 11th) drove to pick it up from a separate location, and hand delivered it with a fresh set of bedding. Our hero! Robert checked in with us the following morning to make sure we were comfortable and his hospitality remained the same throughout our stay! He personally texting us letting us know when our bike rentals arrived and asked about the restaurants we visited. Truly a 5-star employee. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to all of historic Key West, and has great spots on the grounds to sit an enjoy a morning coffee, read a book, or just enjoy the Florida weather. Keith the bartender makes phenomenal drinks by the pool, if you are in the mood for a swim! We will definitely be booking here on our next trip to Key West and recommending it to all our our friends!!

First, and foremost, it should be mentioned that Rob and Sapir at the front desk are great people and happen to be top tier guest service agents as well. Their willingness to ensure you have the best accommodations and all around experience is second to none. As for the property, there are many different lodging options, multiple pools, breakfast options, and is in a perfect location to reach any side of the island quickly. It was quiet enough since it is a few blocks off Duval and not too close to the north or south side of the island. Keith (if memory serves), the bartender, gave some great recommendations on restaurants and bars to check out. Ultimately, this was a perfect stay for 4 nights and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a clean property with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.

Note: There was a fairly large wedding party booked at the same time as our trip. It did not take away from our experience and the staff was still able to accommodate a room change (based on preference, not noise). Speaks volumes for the property and obviously the staff.

For $750 a night you get a room with a stained couch, an ac vent above the bed that leaks on your face, filthy handprints on the walls.

It’s like pulling teeth to get towels, trash picked up etc. The staff is quick to remind you that “this isn’t a regular hotel”- ie they don’t have staff to meet your needs.

For the money you’re better off renting a VRBO or Airbnb in Key West.

A “regular” hotel has service and an Airbnb/VRBO at this price point is stocked with amenities and provides privacy.

These Bungalows have non of the above.

Perfect mix of modern design + Key West Vibe.
My husband and I decided to make a quick get away because we recently lost one of our service dogs to a cancer and this property welcomes pets. I took a bit of gamble because I’m all about modern chic designs and try to stay away from homie. But property is recently renovated and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. It is quite modern and very comfortable and yet I do appreciate the essence of Key West throughout thé property.
Special thanks to GM Ashley for arranging a great roomie bungalow to accommodate our German shepherd
Tyler at check in couldn’t have been more professional and yet friendly.
Mercedes at the front desk was always accommodating and friendly
Keith at the bar was making drink runs from one pool to another to accommodate guests
Just a few blocks away from Duval street but far enough if wish unto stay away from the crowd.
It truly was a great getaway in the perfect property and we cannot wait to come back

Just a few minor things. None of which would stop us from coming back here in a heart beat.
The main pool which is the biggest pool of the 3 is right by the street and when trying to relax in the sun, you hear the traffic a bit. Also it needs a bit of upkeeping. The edges of the pool accumulated some gunk and the bottom of the pool on the deeper end collected leaves and dirt. Should be scrubbed and maintained every night and morning but I still went in the pool and enjoyed it. There seems to be a shortage of towels. But you ask one of the staff, they are right on it.
Great feature yet again is the fact the this property is pet friendly but there wasn’t much space for our dog to go when nature calls. Cute walks all around the property but should really think about having some flat space without plants for the dogs to ‘go’. Even an area with a bit of artificial grass like some airports do so it’s easily cleaned and sanitary.
And the pull up patches at the pool entrances aren’t very safe when everyone coming in and out of pool touching it bare hands during this pandemic.

I can't say enough about where we stayed for a week in Key West. We loved our room, our patio, the decor, the grounds with tropical plants, three pools to choose from, and bike rentals. We will absolutely book here again, it was worth every penny. My complaints are small and really no big deal. There was miscommunication with linens; I received two bags of towels instead of one bag of clean linens. it wasn't a huge deal, but the second bag of towels was received after already receiving the first bag as a mistake, so it left us sleeping with no sheets our last night because the office was already closed when we realized the second bag still didn't have sheets. The other complaint is the bikes. They're advertised as being included with your booking, but in reality there are 8 first come, first serve, and after that there is a rental fee from the company the bikes come from. I don't mind the rental fee and the convenience of having them at the lobby. I do mind the false advertisement. Not to mention, 8 bikes is only going to serve 4 rooms if each room has a couple, so that's not a lot. Also, I got to the desk two days to get on the list for the bikes, I was the first one both days, but was still charged. Again, no big deal, we were just glad to have bikes because it was very hot when we were there and it helped keep us cool while out for the day. I just think there should be a fine print under that listed "amenity" on the website. Overall, we loved staying here. Our room was large, plenty of room for our luggage, to walk around, etc. The shower was huge! The vanity has a shelf on the bottom that was great to keep things of the counter and out of the way. The armoire housed the fridge, I found that out before we got there so I knew exactly where to look. The yoga mat was in the bed storage, which was great for morning stretching. We really loved that there were three pools because the main two stayed pretty busy, but the third one tucked away was quiet and perfect. The front desk staff and all staff we saw on the property were very friendly! The bartender could've been nicer, he seemed really grumpy and we felt like we were a burden when we got drinks, even though he wasn't busy at all. We both have been bartenders in tourist areas, so we get it, but it's still your job. The drinks were good though. I'm very glad I booked with Kimpton. Oh, the location was perfect for everything! Walking distance to everything and tucked away from the noise. Can't wait to come back!

My wife and I made our first to Key West expecting to enjoy our time at this hotel for two nights in March 2022, being aware of their good reputation. Our experience was unexpectedly bitter. Services, location of the room assigned to us and interaction with the front desk was unacceptable specially at a premium rate. Our room was located across from the hotel's laundry room which we found widely open practically all the times with a view of the linens and towels.
We felt unwelcomed at the reception desk to start with and got rude response later when requested for regular servicing of the room.

I booked a king room with patio for a birthday trip. A chair in front of the door facing a parking lot is not a patio. I asked for a nicer room and was told they all have "patios" in front or shared spaces with other rooms. There was constant noise from the room upstairs and trucks and cars in the morning. The property overall is a lush oasis but my room was very disappointing. Average size and no tub, only shower.

On a positive note, staff was polite attentive through text and the property is well-kept. Great location within walking distance to everything, but the main street it's on is a bit busy and noisy. Pools are small but mostly quiet and well-stocked with towels, and there are three pools to choose from. Welcome drink was a nice touch and we were also offered complimentary sparkling wine for the birthday. Bed was comfortable as well. No turndown service due to "COVID" at this point is unacceptable for the price. You don't get COVID from cleaning an empty room.....enough already.

Very disappointing room compared to my previous stay at the Kimpton Ella's Cottages. Normally love Kimpton properties but would not really recommend Bungalows. There are better options for this price point.

This place is super cute and boutique. The landscaping is gorgeous and the little bungalows and rooms are bright, airy and well designed. The staff is very nice as well. I would recommend booking a king room with a little private seating area. All the rooms are different and so you could get various formats. Some are better than others in terms of space. I would recommend to book through the hotel vs. A third party site. I paid more ($100/night more) than my room was going for on the website when I got there. Super sad about that or else I would probably give it a 5. They also charge a resort fee. For a single traveler it is a little steep got the value it provides. (Wifi, towel at pool, muffins/coffee for breakfast, a beer at check in) but for a couple it would be more reasonable when you divide that value by 2. Seems like every hotel adds that on these days. My only regret is a) not staying here longer b) overpaying thru a third party for a standard room soooo much more 😟. Also, as a room tip if you are a light sleeper ask not to have a room that backs right up to Truman st. While Elizabeth street is quiet Truman is very noisy as a main road. They moved me to a quieter room when I asked. The location is also very walkable to everything.

Key West is good. Even in COVID environment. Even in month of August.

One of the factors for us to like Key West was this boutique hotel (though, we realize it is a chain). Very nice location. It is conveniently located in “historical” part of the island… close to everything… to clean beaches; to restaurants &bars; to shops and of course Museum of Ernest Hemingway (and his cats). 3 to 8 mins to all of the above.

Cozy property with a lot of rooms fenced off from your next door neighbors. It gives privacy during laid back evenings while enjoying your glass of rose wine…

Rooms are relatively not big, but we thought it had everything you need to rest between your invasion to Conch Republique.

Breakfasts are served on the property, but super basic - coffee, pastry, etc… nothing fancy… mostly no hot meals…

Basic colors of this boutique hotel are white for all wooden buildings and green for all natural greenery (including wild life reps lol), which prompted very peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.

We would appreciate your thumbs up (below) if our basic review was helpful to You.
