basically the rooms were good, but not cleaned in the 5 days we were there, a maid came in daily just to change the towels and empty bins, but no cleaning, the toilet was never cleaned, and no toilet brush to DIY. The rooms have been updated and no problem there, but the facility is terrible. Nothing at all like their website. Run down, needing a cleaning and updates, pool bar closed on a day it is to be open, they charge an additional $45 resort fee for a bad dirty pool area, I noticed cigarette ends under the sun beds that were never moved. The pool water was clean but the pool edgings were broken and dirty with sharp edges, I can not imagine how they can charge $45 a night for resort fee, the breakfast we refused. The sandy area near the bar was nice at sunset. This could be a great resort if only it was cleaned and painted and more staff.

The website makes this place out to be much more luxurious than it is. The continental breakfast is served in a box and consists of a cold egg patty, yogurt and a bagel. No iron or microwave in the room and housekeeping service is lackluster. The bar they mention having is only open Thursday to Sunday afternoon and that is only if the bartender shows up for work. They also charge a $50 per day resort fee that was not mentioned at booking and does not appear on the website. The staff was pleasant and the pool was nice.

Sure I wanted to give this resort a 5 star review. And of the correct the drawbacks they sure can reach this. First of all… the resort is cosy, the rooms are clean and spacious and the heated pool is just magnificent. The staff is professional friendly.

But first of all you want to have good beds. And they aren’t good. They are so soft that your body is lying in a hook in the bed. Very comfortabel for relaxing, but not for sleeping. Second is the breakfast. It isn’t a breakfast! It’s a little carton box with a plastic wrapped muffin and bagels and yoghurt. And… you only get two. Of younger with 3 like us, you have to buy the third one for 5 dollar. Next is the resort fee. We knew from our travel agent we had to pay it at the the reception. It’s 50 dollars a day. But by all means, this is a hotel with a few tennis courts, a bar at a stinky beach and a nice pool with a bar. But not really a resort. So the 50 dollar is a commercial trick to gain more income. And of course, nothing wrong with. But to my opinion it’s no value for money. Is this a bad place? Not at all. If the Staff changes the beds, lowers the resort fee, serve a real breakfast and make the doors a bit more isolated for noise from other guest this can be a 5 star place to be!

We had a room for three. Only 2 lunch

The Sunset Point was a great place to unwind at the end of a fun filled day. Memorable experience by the whole family. Bartender Erich was a delight, always smiling and eager to serve. Very attentive and approachable. He made the evening fun. We will definitely return.

All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly and we have no complaints regarding them whatsoever.

In terms of the resort generally, the tennis courts are unusable and the area surrounding the pool is extremely dirty. All the outside areas, tennis courts and pool area look very run down and unloved. At no point during our 3 day stay did we see anyone cleaning these areas though the robot pool cleaner was doing its job at the bottom of the pool; the pool itself was clean. The poor state of the pool area would dissuade anyone from using the pool which is a shame as the pool itself is large and could be an attractive feature; we saw no one using the pool despite the resort appearing busy. At no time was the advertised Tiki bar or marina bar open and like everything else, both looked run down and uninviting.

Our room was generally okay in terms of size and facilities. However, it is clear that cleaning of the room prior to our arrival consisted of vacuuming/sweeping of the hard floors as the floor itself was dirty evidenced by the dirt picked up by the soles of my daughter's white socks as soon as we arrived. The daily housekeeping regime comprises only a change of towels and topping up of the Keurig coffee capsules; beds are not made, floors and bathroom are not cleaned. Limited housekeeping of this nature is not something we have encountered at a hotel/resort before. The shower had a fair amount of mould which is inevitable in the climate and lack of airflow in the bathroom but this should be properly cleaned more regularly. The hairdryer provided in the room was close to catching fire when used; lots of dust inside burnt off by the heating element. The common areas in the block in which our room was located were only vacuumed once in the 3 days of our stay; on our arrival the carpeted areas were very grubby.

We enjoyed our few days in Marathon but sadly, would not return to this resort. It would be good value if the facilities and ambience matched what was promised, but sadly, it fails to match the marketing hype by a huge margin.

This is the nastiest place we have ever stayed. Just arrived to first look around. Nothing at all like their website. Run down, needing a cleaning and updates, pool bar closed on a day it is to be open, they added an additional $45 resort fee after we prepaid. It is so bad, we asked to cancel before our room was even ready. Manager would not refund our money. The condos next door come over to use the pool. Tremendously misrepresented and should be taken off all travel sites!!!!

Save your money for somewhere that has more to offer. We stayed for 2 days, two rooms. Rooms are clean & bed was comfortable, but the pool was as not heated, part on order, hot tub out of order, no chairs at the beach area, internet was as intermittent which caused the tv to on out when it was out. Breakfast was non-existent when we tried to eat. Staff was not available to ask for anything. At checkout, no one was available to discuss at least a credit to accommodate the resort fee since we only used it for parking & 2 waters in each room. Website is very misleading.

The pictures of this place looked good in reality they were false. This resort was the worst place I’ve ever went to. Continental breakfast was a bagel and smashed muffin and yogurt in a box. They advertised a gym they said it’s storage area right now no workout. The pool was closed that day due to chemicals added. Went to the beach very tiny few seats offered beach chairs at front desk they were camping chairs not loungers like you think. I asked for extra towels they said they have none just the one in your room. Hotel was dirty. Hallways full of sand. Rooms were dirty floors things falling apart looked rundown. The worst was the bed skirts they were disgusting full of hairballs and dirt. I asked for non pet room due to asthma they said they had special cleaning stuff for the rooms you’ll be fine. This was also false animal hair on floor and beds. Not big deal but tv signal was out also in both our rooms. Ok finally this worst thing was next morning after walking around and decided this place is a dump we looked under bed sheets and there were bugs. Not sure if they were fleas or bed bugs but if I would have seen that the night before I would have slept in my car. So we checked out asap been there less then 12 hours and left. A Sadly we checked in at 11 pm had to call them to stay open til we got there cause they close at 11pm though they advertised 24 hour front desk help. After all this they still keep trying to charge are card for the whole stay.

On arrival we were informed that if we wanted to check in 3 hours early there’s a $50 charge even though the room was ready!
There’s an ambiguous additional daily service charge of $45 plus tax for use of tennis equipment, bikes, fishing poles, beach chairs.
We had issues with a dusk to dawn outside light positioned right where the bedroom curtains don’t fit due to the air con unit, so this illuminated the room all night!
Trying to get the room serviced was a total joke. Apparently according to the desk lady, you had to have the Do Not Disturb notice removed from your door by 08.00 otherwise the cleaners would take a picture for the file and not clean the room! They wouldn’t return at a later time due to staff shortages. When we again had an issue we were asked if we had communicated with the cleaners directly in Spanish!!!!
The room was comfortable albeit lacking in clothes storage unless you only come for 1-3 nights. We were on a total 6 week vacation and stayed at Banana Bay for 6 nights. We couldn’t clear our suitcases. 5 hangers wasn’t going to cut it!
Breakfast was a good continental. Bagel, Blueberry Muffin, and orange juice in a styrofoam container. Fresh percolated Coffee was plentiful and porridge and apples were available on a self service basis.
The Tiki bar wasn’t open at all during our stay. The hot tub had lots of mosaic tiles missing that caused sharp edges and looked dirty.
The resort has a very large swimming pool (3-8’ deep) and 2 tennis courts.
The location of the resort is good, with easy driving access to restaurants and Sombrero Beach.
Generally the resort needs updating and significant investment.
Shop around as there’s definitely much better places to stay in the area below or around the overall cost of this resort.

Having looked at reviews online, I knew what we were in for with breakfast etc., but the ‘resort’ exceeded my expectations. It clearly is in the process of a revamp, and I think it has the potential to be a real gem. Our room and the building it was in were lovely and quiet. The front desk area was bright and cheerful. The pool is very large and deep, and we never had issues with loungers or shade. The pool tiki bar never opened. The small ‘beachy’ area is nice for watching sunsets- its bar was open 3 of the nights of our week stay. We only had room cleaning for half of our stay, which only bothers me because of the added resort fees that we had to pay for amenities we didn’t benefit from. These added fees are ridiculous, especially since it isn’t a posh condo. With the closed bars and lack of room cleaning, charging ‘extra’ seems a bold move. I didn’t mind breakfast (although some days were better than others, supplies must have been getting low?) but it’s an environmental nightmare of individually wrapped things with no recycling in the breakfast room. All in all, the location of the hotel and the quality of our room suited our needs. Prices in the Keys for hotels are all overpriced for what you get, but that’s the price for a stay in paradise?
