Few destinations can boast such a distinctive and colorful character as Coconut Grove. In the heart of this tropical paradise sits The Mutiny Hotel, a luxurious all-suite property neighboring the pristine waters of Biscayne Bay. A bright swatch of coral set against the intensely blue South Florida sky, the Mutiny's 12-story tower epitomizes the South Florida style; vibrant colors compliment chic accommodations elegantly decorated in a modern-lavish motif. Long a playground for the elite, The Grove - as it is known by locals - is also a second home to many celebrities, artists, and jetsetters. Its entertainment and shopping district reflects the quirky-yet-sophisticated nature of its residents, and visitors can find everything from haute couture to haughty kitsch in the many shops at CocoWalk, steps from The Mutiny's front door. After all, where else can you see stars in broad daylight, dance through an island festival, and enjoy dinner at a funky cafe? Only at The Mutiny.

We called at 4pm to ask if they had a hot tub and they said they did. Upon arriving at 6pm they said it was closed for the evening. Are you kidding me? Then we are told we can park our car if we want but the valet service is required and is $30. Outside the valet person was nowhere to be seen and then he insisted we had to use him even though the front desk person said it was optional. After several minutes of back and forth he finally explained how we could park our car ourselves. Then they said the restaurant which included how we would get breakfast the next morning was closed Monday’s and Tuesday’s and we arrived hungry. Finally the elevator requires a card to activate and it was confusing causing us to have to go back to the lobby to have someone teach us how to use the elevator. It was impossible to find the way out to the garage where our car was stored. Such a waste of money. The rooms are dated as well. Not sure why anyone would pay what they ask if they knew how terrible this place was. As a couple it’s insulting to not be allowed to use a pool or hot tub after 6pm. It’s not preschool. We continuously had to wait several minutes at the desk to see anyone who could help us and the front desk staff was condescending when we had trouble with the elevators as well as the wifi password. The floors were hard and uncomfortable. The bed was nice and the pool area attractive (which we couldn't use since we arrived after 6) but those are the only things about the place I liked. Worst property by far I have stayed at in the Miami area for our needs. If you want to be in the center of Coral Gables and care about nothing else including getting ripped off it's fine. Otherwise, steer clear.

Rooms are clean and spacious. Just a few items need attention. Did not receive daily service. Was not advised service is not performed. Only one jet in hot tub works When valet brought the car to the front drive there were bird droppings all over the windshield. You would think this is a known issue and valet would be prepared to clean the windshield. Channel changer in living room is the worst. No instructions and no buttons to enter a channel. Have to up/down arrow to go channels one at a time. Do not think I would stay here on future trips,.

The hotel itself is a little dated. I found myself, on more than one occasion, looking for someone to help me at the front desk and there was no one around. The staff is somewhat friendly, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. I believe the place is severely understaffed. One of the days, over the weekend, there were multiple power outages. Obviously, there is nothing the hotel can do about that, but what I found unacceptable was the lack of information or action taken by the hotel staff. There was no manager to be found, the staff looked lost and like I said, the power must've gone on and off at least 10 times. Alarms were sounding after the outages and still, no answers as to whether there was more trouble to be expected. The only person who seemed to be concerned about the guests was the chef from the restaurant. I'll get to that review later.
