we spent 2 nights here and loved it. The lodge is situated right on the riverside and is accessed by boat. The staff were very kind and the food was very good. Rooms were simple but clean and spacious. We loved the hammocks on our balcony. We didn't use their guide but we did share a boat with him and he was very quick at spotting wildlife on the river and knew lots about the bird & animals of the area.
We loved every bit of our tour and loved Abdul our guide! He was very good at spotting wildlife and always very knowledgable. Our tour included: Selingan Turtle Island Gomantong Cave Kinabatangan River Cruise Morning Cruise to Oxbow Lake or Jungle Trek Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre Sandakan City Tour Bilit Rainforest Lodge 4* Sheraton Four Points HotelCOMPLIMENTARY 01 Night River Cruise. Loved the Bilit Rainforest Lodge and had a great stay although we could never work out the hot water for the showers. But it was so hot cold was fine. Sharon and Stewart
Bilit rainforest lodge is one of the better places to stay on the Kinabatangan river. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable with hot water and all other amenities, including private veranda with seating and hammocks The staff were relaxed and friendly. Thee food options at meal times were varied and good quality, even including homemade chocolate cake. The guide for our boat trips was Jimmy who was very frinedly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately we didn't see too much wildlife, but this was just bad luck as there are orangutans, elephants, crocodiles etc.. around, which we had seen on a previous trip. If you're looking for somewhere comfortable to stay on the river i would definitely recommend Billit Rainforest Lodge.
The lodge is located on the river bank without car access. The individual houses are great and pretty clean, the staff is friendly. The main dinner hall is nice and spacious, the atmosphere is a bit cold and sterile. Most of the staff is chatting and playing with the cats during the day, when the cats went on the table nobody seemed to be bothered. The staff should also wash their hands after touching the cats and before preparing our food. Some ideas for improvements: - motivate the staff a bit, they seemed to be bored and sometimes very short and almost a bit rude (e.g. „Do you want me to make your room? What do you want me to do? Sheets? Towels?“) - place all the guests on the same tables to encourage conversation - play some calm and soft music during the day/food times -…
We stayed here for a couple of nights and had some fabulous animal sightings in the morning and evening tours. Built Lodge itself is very comfortable and definitely at the higher end of lodges on Kinabatangan River. I cannot comment on whether Bilit is the best place to stay but can definitely say that a visit to the river is likely to be a highlight if you want to see elephants, orangutans, hornbills, long nose monkeys and a host of other flora and fauna. Compared with getting deep in the jungle on foot, you will see far more from the river as you are far enough from the animals not to frighten them off without them being hidden from view in the dense canopy. That said, if you want photos you will need a long lens and a steady hand. This is not a wildlife park but their natural…
We stayed here 2 nights for 3 rivertours. Both lodge staff and tourstaff guide and driver are really friendly. The room, actually a little house, we had was amazing, big and really important, had a good shower and a really good bed. The did see wold boars, of course makakes, orang utangs, crocodiles, 'Dutch' monkees, hornbill birds, a snake, a civet cat and a lot of insects, but we were pleasantly surprised with the number of musquitos. I can recommend the BRL to everyone!
Split a recent trip to Gaya Island with a few days here. It really does feel remote - it is btw - and there's no tarting it up, it's not five star. That said, basic or not, it's comfortable, there is working AC and hot running water in the en-suites. The food is surprisingly good, albeit limited in choice. Wifi is hit and miss at best, but you're there for the wildlife - which is truly spectacular. Our guide 'Jimmy' was Malaysia's answer to David Attenborough but with bionic eyesight. The things he spots from a moving boat is frankly not normal ! Bring a hat - it's hot on the boats and they are not covered. Bring a torch, there's little lighting to the huts and bring a decent pair of binoculars - 8 power is plenty. Other that that, switch off from the outside world and soak it…
I had a fantastic time here. The accomodation is very comfortable and a great place to relax after your river trips. You are truly in the jungle but quite safe. The staff are very helpful and caring. The river trips looking for the animal life goes way to quickly. I would loved to have spent more time here. My only suggestion would be at meals times to get rid of the table allocation and allow people to mingle together in different groups.
We loved our stay at Bilit . Arriving at the lodge by boat, we were met with a warm welcome from the manager. The guides are all really friendly and knowledgeable and the boats are comfortable and dry. They supply life jackets but remember to bring binoculars and a good camera. The night safari was really special and we managed to see the ' big five' during our two days. The food is buffet style and tasty . Vegetarians are catered for but it's pretty basic , vegetable dishes without protein so maybe bring some nuts? Breakfast is good with an ' egg chef' on hand. The rooms are big and bathrooms good. We loved reading in the very comfortable hammocks on the veranda. A lovely place to see the wildlife of Borneo.
Spent 2 nights here as part of a package booked with Amazing Borneo Tours. I highly recommend it. The package included pick up at Sandakan airport and transport, all meals in the lodge, 2 nights, 4 river cruises in total (morning, afternoon, evening and night over the 2 days) and then a visit to the Gomantong caves-excellent. Bilit rainforest lodge is a lovely hotel. Our room was perfect. It was huge, very comfortable and clean. There is a large shower and a separate bathroom. The air con was fantastic- so much so that we needed to use the heavier blankets provided as the room cooled down so much with it (brilliant!!). Staff were really nice and friendly, always smiling and reading to help if you needed them. The food was great. For lunch there was chips/fries, rice, chicken,…
