Going to St. George Island in Florida? Check with the property rental companies for a house or cottage rental instead of staying at the Buccaneer Inn. Though it is located right on the beach for easy access, it is pretty old and dumpy for $140+/night. Furnishings badly need updating, curtains need replacing, windows need to be cleaned of salt spray film at least weekly. Bathroom needs a thorough scrubbing from floor to ceiling; in fact, it just needs to be gutted. This hotel has been on the island over 40 years and because the walls of each room are painted concrete block, it has withstood storms, but it's time for a complete renovation.

We stayed for one night as we were passing through the area. The rooms definitely need some sprucing up. The refrigerator was very rusty and the paint was looking very old but everything was very clean and it's a beautiful location right on the beach. There are several restaurants and bars in walking distance. I would stay here again if I'm ever back in the area.

I don’t know what’s going on with people saying this place has updated. Maybe the best rooms have been done. Not the room we had. This room, first floor looking out on the pool, was old and poorly maintained. The tile in the shower/toilet are was really disgusting 50s era. The door to the bathroom didn’t fit well. The toilet was sized for a kindergartner. The floor in the room is a really ugly fake wood that stops at the edge of the sink area. It all seemed clean, but disappointing.

The fridge kept making a clicking noise that really became annoying. We finally put some music on to cover it up.

There was no information in the room. No password for WiFi, no listing of TV channels. Before you say it’s a hygiene thing during COVID-19, how hard is it to laminate a page and then just wipe that down?

No extra blankets even though it was close to freezing.

The only positives are the desk clerk—she was very nice, and the beachfront. The beach is gorgeous, and our room was just steps from their great access walk. The pool may be good too, but it was too cold.

The best thing about Buccaneer Inn is the beach access and walking distance to restaurants and shops. Parking lot view room was nicely renovated - vinyl, wood-look flooring; walls appeared freshly painted; new cabinets in kitchenette area. The beds were comfortable and the A/C was cold. We slept well.
The down side, when we walked into the room we noticed the booth table and benches had food crumbs on them. The bathtub had hair on the walls and the tile floor in the bathroom was gross - looked like chipped off nail polish and hair on the floor, and just dirty. Was wishing we had cleaning supplies, but we only stayed one night. I would not walk barefoot in the room. That being said I will not stay here again unless I can inspect the room first, which is sad because I have happy memories from a previous stay.

This hotel gets an excellent rating for its location. There is nothing fancy, and it is your BASIC old hotel. Modern upkeep has not made its way to SGI nor have outrageous prices. It really was a step back in time- and I liked it. There is no elevator for the public- if you can't get up the steps there is an elevator the house keepers use to get laundry up and down. There were plenty of towels and the linens were soft and pillows comfy. Was it clean? It looked OK to me, and I am picky. It was a full house while we were there, and we were not disturbed by any drunk, naked, champagne parties. The only thing were heard were unhappy children about 10:30 PM. If your only interest is having an amazing weekend relaxing at the beach, this is your place. If you need to party, look elsewhere.

When trying to decide on a place we came across this little gem. It’s undergoing renovations but we thought it was great. It’s not fancy, it’s older but charming. Currently they don’t offer daily house cleaning services but honestly we didn’t feel it was needed. You can exchange your towels easily, free parking, free coffee, A pool, borrow a broom for the sand and you can walk directly out to the beach. The staff were all fantastic. We had no issues and can’t wait to come back with the rest of the family. It’s definitely worth the price. It was within walking distance of everything pretty much. I chose this for location to the beach and over all cost.

I was charged on a credit card used to hold 3 rooms and on a different card used in person to pay for the 3 rooms. Buccaneer Inn did not help me in any way to resolve the over charges It's been 3 months since our stay and I'm still trying to resolve this with the credit card companies involved. I will not stay here again as I was charged twice for the 3 rooms I rented. I believe the Inn can see the duplicate payments and should resolve this issue themselves. I do not trust this facility.

Needs new doors, ice machines, cleaning cleaning cleaning. It's a shame the owners don't care as it's in a beautiful location. Closed in showers would be nice so you don't track sand in the rooms. We won't be back.

Stayed once again during Spring Break. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the beach was outside of your door. The Blue Parrott restaurant is right next door. All establishments are within walking distance. The Kitchenette served it's purpose being able to make breakfast every morning. We brought our own frying pan, dish towels, and dish soap.

Staying at the Buccaneer Inn was a unique experience. The location of the motel is perfect to enjoy what St. George Island has to offer. It is very worn and has seen better days, but our room was clean and provided us with a place to stay only feet away from the gulf. We enjoyed the beach all day and could walk to restaurants on the island. (Even the ones on the bay) The Buccaneer is a good place to stay if you are only in the area for a night or two and don't want to pay the fees that go with vacation rentals. The price was right too.

The bedding he was clean.. this is a very old hotel there's no bells and whistles. And did have a coffee pot. This hotel is walking distance to a lot of things. We love that you can see the sunrise on one side of hotel and if you walk to the bridge near the restaurant's you can see the sunset..
