We have camped at Ft Desoto for over 2 years. We have never had any issues until the last two visits. Last month the camp store clerk was very rude to our kids, even though we were in the store with them noth times and...More

Beautiful, beautiful park! We were there for two weeks in January and February. Stayed in the campground and had a wonderful beach-front campsite. The only con we found was that the roads in the campground were very narrow and were bordered by trees and trash...More

The campground is a great place to stay to visit St. Petersburg. The utilities worked well and were placed well. The bathrooms were clean. The staff is friendly and hard workers. Now for the things we didn’t like. The roads are ridiculous for a large...More

Although many sites have waterfront access, there are stingrays so nobody really swims there. Plus it’s very shallow. Good for small boats or kayaks but for swimming, we went to North beach, 10 mins drive away.

I would not attempt it with a child. Between winds picking up suddenly that can cause rough waves, and some very strong tidal currents, it is not advisable or safe. I have kayaked from the campground over to Shell Key many... More
