We had stayed at Bay Club with Wyndham for 10 years and loved it. It is in a gated community with three swimming pools, a pristine white sand beach, and over 20 restaurants. We like it so much that in 2016 we purchase a floating week at the resort. The front desk people are great at resolving issues and helping us get the we condo we want. Each unit has been upgraded with new furniture, appliances, and fixtures. Because it is a gated community there is very little traffic and plenty of lanes and trails for walking or riding a bike.

This was a timeshare trade for us, and our biggest complaint was the $50.00 resort fee for non-existent amenities. The pool is shared with nearby resorts, and there are no other amenities to speak of. We pay far, far higher maintenance fees at the resorts we own, all of which have vastly more amenities, so it's annoying to be asked to subsidize Bay Club owner's expenses. With that rant out of the way, we enjoyed our stay. We received the exact unit shown on our trade confirmation, and we were excited to discover we had a nice view of the bay from our one bedroom fourth floor unit. The unit was a modest but adequate size, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was adequately stocked, and the bedroom and living room both opened onto a good-sized balcony. The pool, as I mentioned, is not owned by the Bay Club. It's a short walk away, shared with other nearby resorts. There is a restaurant by the pool that's open 7:00 to 2:00. This was very convenient, the food and service were good, and prices were reasonable for a resort area. The Sandestin trams that service the entire gated community stop near Bay Club, so that was also convenient. The biggest draw of the Bay Club is the fact that it's in the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Aside from that and its bay view, it's a pretty basic facility. We stayed at the Embarc last time, which is a far more upscale resort, and there was no resort fee, at least a few years ago. We would stay at the Bay Club again due to its location and the fact that there are not many timeshare resorts in this area. They also rent available units, so you don't need to be a timeshare owner to stay here.

We booked a last minute trip with our time share points at Bay Club of Sandestin. Our room was an efficiency. It really worked out perfectly because it was just me and my husband. The efficiency was on the second floor in building one and had everything we needed. The only thing to keep in mind for the efficiency is it has a small fridge and *no* balcony. But the second floor was perfect. We were steps away from the washer/dryer facilities that are free of charge and the ice making station. There are even bags available by the ice machine. This resort was clean, quiet and safe. Not only would I recommend it, we will probably stay there again!

The resort is actually located on the bay side, so to get to the beach it is about a five minute drive. There is a tram that takes you to the beach and different spots around the area. There are three different pools you have access to, but only the pool by Sunset Bay Cafe is within walking distance. It was very nice, and there is also a Tiki Bar, Cory the bartender will take good care of you. The beach area is *very* crowded because it is the access area for all of the people staying at the resort, but we were able to find a spot to set up each day. At the beach there are umbrella/chair rentals available through the resort, it was $220 for the week. Also, when you check in there is a $50 resort fee. But this covers your parking, tram transportation and access to the pools.

I’ll begin by saying that my mom & I felt very safe staying here. It’s a gated community with lovely tree lined streets & walkways lining the community. The view on the bayside was lovely (if obscured by pines) from the 4th floor & the rooms are newly renovated & clean. However, if you plan on using the pull out sofa, there’s no room for the coffee table & you have to move the dining room table into such a spot that it only accommodates two. My mom specifically asked about heated pools & hot tubs...despite management’s comment about there being some available in their response to a review from December 2019, we were told their were none by the front desk. In fact, when we walked through the front lobby, we were rarely acknowledged. It became a running joke with us. Furthermore, deliveries arrived at the back of the Sunset Bay Cafe every morning before sunrise & woke us...garbage pick up days there were the worst. I could hear every word they said & rarely got back to sleep. Our microwave & ice maker did not work. When we called the after hours line for maintenance on the first day, it rolled to a voicemail that said it was unavailable for messages. ??? The next morning I had the pleasure of meeting Javier, who is their maintenance manager. He was very kind & polite. He replaced the microwave & had to order parts for the ice maker. I was grateful for him. I wish I had more positive reflections on this location, but I feel it was at best so-so. Great location, but that’s the best I can share.

We have stayed in many timeshares over the years but it was the first time at this location. Check in was easy and carts were plentiful when we arrived. Our unit was 407 and the big picture window had a broken seal that caused the window to become so opaque with moisture on the inside that we could not see out of it. We notified the front desk but no one responded. It stormed while we were there and the window leaked. Maintenance came and brought towels to soak up the water. He said they were well aware of the window issue and it had been broken for some time! Other maintenance issues included a broken toilet at the pool and a filthy cold air return duct in our unit. None of the pools were heated although they told us two of them were. The water was freezing. There were no pool towels available so be sure and bring your own. The grounds were beautiful and there were nice walking trails but we will not be returning.

Just spent a week here in a two bedroom unit with my family. Plenty of space but overall the resort is nothing great. Unit could use a deep cleaning. No activities (assuming Covid related). Pool was closed one full day (no explanation). The beach was beautiful but extremely frustrating due to the insane amount of beach chair rentals taking up the prime real estate causing us to walk a really far distance to find a place to set up. We’ll be back to Destin but not sure we’d be back here.

Sandestin has awesome beaches with white powdery sand. This was the only place with availability to exchange, and there's a reason. It isn't maintained as well as most Wyndham properties. Definitely needed a deep clean under the fridge, baseboards, corners, etc. Kitchen was well stocked, but some items needed to be replaced. Carpet was worn and needed replacement. As others have said, there are few rooms with a view.

We chose to go to the owner's presentation (no gift offered). I told them I was interested in a update, but I already couldn't use all owned timeshare. The sales lady was excellent in telling us about ownership perks we could use. Sales manager popped in at the end of the hour and decided that he could save us money. I said no, we had done that. He said he would be right back. He stalled forever and I had to state I was leaving. He is personable, but don't fall for his line!

We hope to return to Sandestin, but don't want to return here.

We bought our timeshare at Bay Club of Sandestin 35 years ago. We've been several times over the last few years to the same unit the same week, but have never been so disappointed as we were this trip. The pool area was one of the biggest frustrations. To name just a few major issues: the railing is peeling and the area just beyond it is full of trash, the concrete is broken and patched, and the worst is the trash cans as you enter. They have not been emptied in the 3 days we have been here (see pictures). With the pandemic of the past year, I would think that was a prime opportunity for the management to put the annual fees we pay toward some of the amenities. On the plus side, I was glad to see the hallway renovation complete. It looks nice. The unit is fine, just old...old dishwasher, old shower stall, old sliding doors. This is not the upscale resort we bought into.

It is sad to have to review this hotel / timeshare exchange with low score. The 2nd star is for the staff, as they were very nice. The lobby is so outdated and dark, I wanted my money back without even seeing the room, but we couldn’t change the timeshare agreement.
The 2BS6 room was awful. So many patches in ceilings and walls. The sliding glass doors were original, so very hard to slide open and close. The microwave above the stove wasn’t working; the solution was to put another one on the counter. The stove was rusted. The furniture was filthy. The A/C switched from heating to A/C spontaneously. All the carpet, walls, furnishings need updating. The pool area’s cool decking was ridiculously in need of replacement because patching the many significant cracks has had its limit.
It is just a very old hotel and needs to be demolished. A rebuild would be best because the cost of repairs will be too much to justify the investment. There really isn’t a good view of the bay nor is a vacation worthy location.

Going in three weeks. Just curious how close to the beach is this property?
Answer from Jane H
Lockwood, Missouri9 contributions4 helpful votes
Yes, there is a large pool within a short walking distance, but the beach is about a 3 minute drive to the beach. There is a handy parking lot and a short walk out to the large, spacious beach. You can rent beach chairs/umberellas or take your own....as well as coolers/snacks. We have always been able to "use" a couple of beach chairs folks have left in the parking garage near the bike rack. One time out son and daughter-in-law bought two cheap beach chairs to use and then just left them in the garage for future travelers to use. Much cheaper than renting for a day...especially if you're like us can only spend 2-3 hours at the beach at a time. Ask girls at the front desk about the heated pool located near by. It is spacious with lots of lounge chairs. Secluded with concrete ledge all around, facilities and a couple covered picnic tables. (You will need to bring your own beach towels) On the subject of bike rentals...folks at Coastal Cruisers are great and will probably work with you during off peak times. They deliver and pick up here at Bay Club, no extra charge.
