Detailed Reviews
This was a very pretty area in the Apalachicola National Forest. The lake is scenic and surrounded by bald cypress trees. We took the 4.5 (blue marks) mile Wright Lake trail and we did not regret it in spite of the warm temperatures. Take plenty of water if you do this trail. The first half takes you near Tupelo and Bald cypress swamps (very nice) and the second part is dryer Long-leaf pine and palmetto palms in the understory. Many trees were painted white which means possible habitat for the endangered Red-cockaded woodpecker. The trailhead had a useful informative plaque describing in detail all the habitats you cross as you hike along the trail.
The campground is not too private but it is shaded. There is water at every site but no electricity. The showers were very nice and modern and very clean. Showers are available and for a $3 fee non-campers can take a shower. Entrance fee is $3 or half that if you have a senior pass.
A nice picnic area with water spigots is separate from the campground and shady as well. Plenty of trash cans for your trash.
A great place worth visiting or camping here if you want to do the trail early in the day.
