Island Bay Resort garners praise for its serene atmosphere and well-maintained amenities, including complimentary water sports equipment. Guests frequently commend the cleanliness of both the grounds and the rooms, attributing this to the owners' meticulous care. Although the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and cleanliness, some guests find them somewhat small.
The service at the resort is repeatedly lauded, with staff members receiving accolades for their attentiveness. While the value assessments vary, with a few concerns about cancellation fees, many visitors appreciate the charming local decor and thoughtful touches throughout the property.

What a beautiful, well manicured resort property! The private beach and views were stunning. Sue and Steve, the onsite caretakers were the wonderful. You couldn’t ask for two nicer people to assist you with check in and provide answers to all the amenities offered at this 5 star resort. We have already booked for next year. Well done, Island Bay Resort👏👏👏.

Our first impression was that the owners love this place and go out of their way to make it attractive and special for guests. The private beach is lovely and the tropical landscaping is outstanding. We stayed in Cottage #7 for the New Year's weekend, which was remarkably quiet. Amazingly, we were alone on the beach at midnight watching fireworks in the distance. Sunset on another day was wonderful.
By the second day, our cottage's conch shell decor became annoying, particularly the clutter of shell bric-a-brac on every horizontal surface. Hot water was unreliable, often requiring 5 minutes of running the water before turning warm. The parking spaces are so tight, certain ones are labeled compact cars only, and maneuvering out of a space is tricky. Do not bring a boat trailer or RV.

Our second time staying here. We love this little intimate gem when traveling to the Keys. The rooms are very clean, and the beds are comfortable. The kitchenette is perfect for preparing a little something to eat. Each room has a private deck with a shade umbrella for dining (and a small dinette inside the room as well). The grounds and beach area are immaculate and there are SUP boards and kayaks that are free to use while staying there. Plenty of private shady areas on the beach with comfortable, clean furniture and a clean shower/bath house. The hosts, Steve and Sue could not be more accommodating. They are truly warm and welcoming and take pride in providing a top notch experience for their guests. You won’t be disappointed staying here.

From the moment the gate to this resort opened, we knew we would love it. It just felt peaceful and quiet and a place to relax. We were more than right!! I can’t say enough about the place! The owners take amazing care of this place to the point, they rake the beach in the morning! The grounds are filled with amazing plants, the beach has a few games to play, paddle boards, kayaks and the place only has 10 units. They don’t allow kids or friends of guests to visit…and that makes it so peaceful and quiet and there is always a chair on their private beach! Each unit has a little porch with two chairs and a table. Its just great to sit and relax at.
If you need to leave, there is a grocery store a mile down the street. You can stock up your fridge. You can get burgers and chicken and grill them on a charcoal grill they supply to each unit. They have on site washing machine and dryer, Once you have your food, you don’t need to leave! Amazing sunsets (the neighbors play taps on a trumpet at sunset) are also a joy to watch!
Everything is here for a get away. Just know, the room is small, but the bed is big! It’s big enough to sleep, have a meal, cook a meal and rest. Assuming you get good weather, you will have a great space outdoors to enjoy their paradise!
We truly loved it and plan to come back some day soon! Thank you Lauren and Austin for your hospitality and letting me spend time with Frankie, the Old English Sheep Dog!

After a hectic time in Miami this is just the place to come. So peaceful and beautiful. With its 10 lodges consisting of everything you need it’s a great place to get away from it all. After lots of meals out it was great to have a bbq and eat outside to the sound of the ocean. There are a few good supermarkets within easy reach.
The lodges are on a gated development leading down to the sea with comfortable beach chairs and towels provided. All of the equipment such as kayaks, paddle boards, pedalos, safety vests and snorkels are provided free of charge. Sue & Steve who run the site are so lovely and make you feel very welcome. You can see they take so much pride in the site as it is immaculate. We have had the most relaxing time here and would highly recommend this for a bit of R&R.

This review isn't for the resort per se - but for their cancellation policy. We booked for end of Novemeber and had to cancel. booked in mid Sept and cancelled 2 weeks later or so. My wife was told $50 cancellation charge . No problem with that however we were charged $100. We had one reservation, but because we had to change rooms for one night during the stay there - their cancellation policy is $50 per room! - not per reservation. Thought this was excessive for what amounted to a small ("paperwork") inconvenience. We have stayed there many, many times and the place is beautiful - however want to point out their ( the new owners) lack of any room for exception should you have to cancel a reservation that used multiple rooms . Disappointing. Previous owners would most likely have charged us (the understandable) $50 for the one reservation.

We are sorry that you are dissatisfied with our cancellation policy. We spoke on the phone and emailed explaining why we have that policy to recoup expenses involved with rooms being taken out of service when booked. You had two rooms reserved which is considered two separate reservations under one name. Our cancellation policy is one of the lowest fees in the area. You mentioned we most likely already had the room re-booked which was not the case. We did offer a solution by offering to re-book your stay to another date in lieu of charging you a cancellation fee but you did not want to take advantage of that. We do try to accommodate all of our guests because we value every guest's patronage including yours. You yourself stated "You went back and read our policy and it is per room" We hope your day got better, you mentioned during our phone call you were having a bad day, that you didn't get your newspaper and you were generally very set in your ways, which we respect. Again, we are still willing to re-book your reservation to another date and include your cancellation fee if that is something you want to consider. Steve & Sue Wood Island Bay Resort

We were so fortunate to be able to stay at this beautiful resort for 2 nights but wished it could have been longer. We were in Sunset cottage 6 which had a separate bedroom and living area. When we first entered this beautiful cottage, we were welcomed by soft music playing. Attention to detail, from the decor to the cleanliness to the hospitality was simply amazing. The little beach area is raked daily and the lounge chairs are spread out well so you aren’t on top of other guests. We took out the kayaks (both single and double) and paddled down to a marina. Beautiful sunsets, twinkling lights at nights - I really could go on about how much we loved this magical resort, but it really is best to experience it for yourself.

I would 110% recommend this resort to friends and family. We were hesitant to travel with Covid since I am a breast cancer survivor but we wanted to celebrate being done with chemo, radiation and surgery. This place was so amazing and a much needed break from the world. Before our trip I spoke with someone on the phone and she was super nice and helpful an answered all my questions. The rooms were amazing and the cleanest place we have ever stayed at. The beds and pillows were super comfy and shower had good water pressure and hot water. I could not hear anyone next to use or outside the entire time we were there. Upon arrival we were given a sheet with restaurant suggestions and in the room there was a nice binder with a whole bunch of information. It is obvious that the owner took great care in making sure the guests have a great time.
We did not use either but there is laundry and dive storage lockers onsite. There is also corn hole, kayaks and stand up paddles boards that can be used. Super cute areas with plenty of places to sit and relax-comfy chairs, hammocks.
Overall, we were super happy with this resort and I couldn't have asked for a more stress free weekend to celebrate. 100% covid friendly.

My wife and I planned a Florida Keys honeymoon and we hit just about every island on our way down to Key West. Of all the places we booked, this one was the one we were most excited for! When we arrived we were walked down the road by the front desk lady and given a mini-tour of the resort and the amenities. When we entered our room we were greeted by tropical flowers on the bed and the cutest island cottage we've ever seen. We could only stay a few nights because it was a little bit expensive for some broke college kids, but when we got there we realized that all of the paddle boats/paddle boards/kayaks were free to use! The attention to detail in everything was incredible. The boardwalk was swept daily, the rafters had dolphins and sharks carved into them, and the landscaping was so beautiful! We had a wonderful time and we would love to return some day!

This a quaint placed located perfectly in the upper Keys area of Tavernier. We are repeat guests and have fallen in love with the charm and convenience. Each room has a different theme and decor to match. Rooms are equipped based on size and don’t be afraid to ask for something if it is missing or needed. Nice to have charcoal grill available to each bungalow and there is Key Largo Fish Company a short drive if you don’t catch your own fish to grill. The short walk to the beach area and access to water is right on property with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Water sport equipment is available as part of your stay. Easy to paddle board or kayak. Even the hammocks are a nice touch. Note - if you like Cuban coffee there is a place just a short walk outside the gate. We love coming back and hate to leave.
