We had a very nice short break in an excellent Lodge. Fantastic game rides and boat trip. Friendly staff. Game came right up to our balcony. Knowledgeable game ranger. Good kitchen and good facilities. Wifi needs improving.

We continually strive to improve our services and appreciate your comments. We will attend to improving the wifi at the Lodge, although frustrating for us bush lodges at times! We do hope you visit us again.

From the time you arrive at the lodge, and are welcomed by their friendly and hospitable staff you realize you are in a special place. This is confirmed when you are taken along the walkway to your secluded room. Room 5 has a great view of the bay (look out for passing wildlife). The meals were varied and well presented,...

The second lodge of our holiday and a lovely lay out with a huge welcoming lounge/dining/meeting area and roundels along little pathways hidden in the trees as the accommodation. Lovely décor everywhere and beds facing the wetlands outside. Watch the wild life from the bed early morning or listen to the bush babies clambering over at night. We were also...

I highly recommend the Makakatana Bay Lodge. Hugh, the owner and all of the staff make sure their guests are well taken care of. The cabins are spacious and well kept. The food including the bush lunches is excellent. I particularly liked floating in the swimming pool and enjoying the views of the lake. Annalise was my ranger, she displayed...

Had a great time at Makakatana. Highlight of the trip was definitely the game drives, Game Ranger Michael was unbelievably passionate and knowledgeable! Service and hospitality of the staff was some of the best i have ever experienced, always going out of their way for us. Rooms etc however need some upgrading but nonetheless had a magnificent time!

I stayed at Makakatana in February 2016. I enjoyed my stay. The position is excellent and Isimangaliso Park itself is very nice with a lots of game. The only 1 negative thing about the variety of dishes offered at the dinner. We had no choice - it was just 1 main course.

The first stop on our tour of Kwazulu Natal. This is a very unique place where you are made to feel at home. We enjoyed our stay very much. Stephanie is an excellent host, with the most welcoming smile - and her husband a great cook. We were lucky to experience the troop of elephants as they made their way...

I'll start with the positives: the lodge is quite isolated and we rarely saw another vehicle on our game drives. The water safari is excellent, with close views of hippos, some crocodiles and lots of birds. Warwick, the boatman, will regale you with stories, comments and reminiscences. The lunch next to the water after the boat safari was very enjoyable....
