The wonderful staff at Thonga Beach make an already wonderful holiday extra special. Most are recruited from the local villages, which the Lodge does its part to support - from transport for staff home at night to funding local health projects. Nothing is too much trouble - with a genuine smile. We chose the Lodge transport option from Coastal Cashews...

Second time we are visiting. Lovely fresh clean and quite healthy food (if you want). The beach are world class - it never practically "never" ends. And the most amazing there are no other hotels that you can see and very very few people. Amazing. Fantastic staff. This is a world class destination that few outside South Africa has discovered....

Our family of four - with two boys aged 5 and 8 - stayed at Thonga for two nights in March 2017. It's an exclusive lodge set on a pristine and remote beach in Zululand. There are a few activities on offer there but you must go on their snorkeling trip. Their local guide takes you through the reef's channel...

An amazing African experience, from the open landrover drive through puddles, potholes and dirt roads, dodging the local Nguni cattle that roam freely, to the awesome greeting by the welcoming staff. If anyone is looking for a remote location, where one can literally "get off the grid", then this is the place to be. No cell phone coverage, very limited...

We stayed 4 days at this wonderful place, that is co-owned by the nearby village. Almost all of the staff come from the village, and they welcome you and share experiences and stories with you - as if you visited them in their own home. We did not feel like tourists, we felt fully welcomed by all the kind people...

Fantastic remote location. Staff v friendly and try to be helpful. Great that they employ lots of local people. Management of staff a bit lacking - housekeeping entering without knocking on a room change day long before check out time and making us feel hassled

What a shame! Not the fault of Thonga Beach itself but the weather for our four days here was not great. This was our planned R&R on the beach and in the sun. However the remains of the cyclone over Mozambique had its say. We still managed walks along the extraordinary beach - wind blown and wild! However how wonderful...
