This is a private property with 8 huts built on it. Each with a distinct character, woody and beautiful. You will go back to living with nature, so bring your insect repellant, forget about your handphone, ipad and whatnot cos there is no reception. The only luxury is the TV in your room but it has no connection to any...

We stayed at the Malihom for 2 nights, it really is as good (or even better) as it looks. We didn't have any trouble finding the place, we printed the instructions just in case for the taxi driver and followed these. The taxi did not want to go up the hill so dropped us off at the bottom, we were...

A wonderful 1 night stay specially arranged to be out from the busy city and to celebrate her birthday and followed by a special surprise to HER that has been planned long ago. We are very lucky to be the only guests in Malihom on that day that makes everything even more special, personalize and memorable. Special thanks to Mr...

Going up, we were all skeptical about this place. On the subject of going up, my advise, do not drive a big car/van, the road going up is very steep, narrow and winding. Other than that, this is a perfect place to get away from city life. Unlike any other private estates or resorts, Malihom is extremely unique. Thanks to...

My wife and I stayed at Malihom for two nights as part of our honeymoon in Penang. The view was tremendous and we especially have to applaud the staff for being tremendously attentive to our needs and making our stay a pleasant one. The food was excellent, though we did prefer the Burmese cooking more so than the Western dishes...

Peaceful setting with great views (even with the haze) around the whole and neighboring islands. Staff attentive and eager to attend to our personal needs. Great food, however, if you are staying more than three days you may find the selection limited. A selection of books, DVD and games are available for guests. The room was nice and cosy, and...

It's a calm place. Small barns are nice and cosy. And fun to discover. Swimming pool is really nice (we were just the 2 of us in the hotel so...). But for such a price (almost 300€ a night), you expect luxury service. We waited at the entrance (it's a meeting point because it's private proporty taxi are not used...

The place was absolutely breathtaking and beautiful, and it must be commended on how beautiful the gardens and surrounding areas are being kept. Coming here, I had unrealistic expectations of it being a luxury boutique resort, not having the time to read all the reviews beforehand. Actually its more like living at a private and very rustic home of a...

It’s a rather threatening trip up the hill, with several notices warning you that you have strictly no access to this private property and will be persecuted. Once you’re inside, the high fences around the property gave me that same ‘rich people only’ vibe. I wonder what caused this hostility, and how this relates to the eco-tourism principle of blending...

Dear Mr Willem, Thank you for your feedback. We're really sorry you did not find Malihom to your expectations. Please let us address your concerns. Unlike a hotel, we operate Malihom as a small home stay in a private estate. Most of our guests stay with us primarily to get away from the buzz of city life and to seek...

We recently stayed at Malihom Private Estate on Penang. After reading reviews, we booked the barn called 'Aloun' as it apparently had the nicest views and outdoor area. However, when we arrived and were shown to Aloun we noticed that the hills in front of the barn had recently been cleared of vegetation. The view during the day was, therefore,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Malihom, a private estate, perched on the crest of the southern end of Penang, offers a tranquil getaway. Our unique location offers stunning and uninterrupted panoramas from every room, providing all our guests with ever-changing but always immense and breathtaking views. The fresh air, myriad sounds of the birds and stunning views are a feast for your senses whilst delighting in our array of home cooked cuisine and carefully selected collection of wines. We are an intimate boutique Retreat offering a more personal style of service and an intimate atmosphere that is only found in boutique establishments. The estate comprises a cluster of traditional Thai rice barns which have been carefully converted with modern comforts while respecting traditional charms. There are generous indoor and outdoor seating areas to allow guests to soak in the views and the cool breeze from the horizon as well as yoga and holistic therapies offering an array of relaxing treatments. At the hub of the estate lies the main wing which centers the reception, dining and living areas. The barns are linked to the main wing by way of footpaths. Each barn, with its own unique character has a private garden or a deck. This arrangement provides guests with privacy and seclusion. Our unique picturesque settings will provide that unforgettable difference to any occasion whether a romantic stay for two, group vacation, a Conference venue with an edge or a unique Wedding reception to reminisce. ... more   less
