If you’re looking for a nice R&R in a little township of Balik Pulau in Penang, look no further! I usually visit my mum who lives in BP once a year but didn’t know of this little gem set near the “kampung” village. It’s a really well appointed house with 3 lovely bedrooms. I booked the largest bedroom with ensuite which has a balcony. Good large space, bed and bathroom. The house is full of all kinds of books you’ll ever want to read. Mun the host is very hospitable and accommodating. She has several bikes for your use and beautifully hand drawn maps of the village. I went jogging two mornings into the padi fields and rode around discovering the area where not many cars go. Mun is very environmentally conscious and has activities such as yoga once a week and recommends trips to different community projects of interest. Mun served brekky of my choice each morning of hawker food! I’ll be back to stay here again. Thank you Mun for such a great experience.

The homestay is very clean and comfortable. There are many books here too for you to read. But the charge is a bit expensive. I take a room with two extra beds and no breakfast and it costs me RM278. Isn't it a bit expensive?

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hostess was lovely and very helpful with suggestions of where to visit. The room was great with our own bathroom and air conditioned. We had a choice of three breakfasts. We chose the Malaysian which was delicious. We would definitely go back.

We choose the book lodge for its location to a race we were attending, so glad we did. Such a lovely and peaceful place. Yeemun makes for a wonderful host greeting us with a genuine smile and great coffee. The room was clean and very well presented with local artefacts. Books are the focus of the house and there's a huge selection to choose from, oh and there's a fleet of bicycles available so we could take a slow ride round the local town. We will be back again that's for sure. 😊

Overall experience - "A house which is better than hotel." My first impression to the place is: wow, the owner put pretty much afford on designing every single place in this property. Cozy & comfortable no matter in the room, bath room or living room. Thumbs up! Strongly recommend to every one who come to visit at Balik Pulau.

Me and my friend stayed in Booklodge for 3d2n during our stay for a cycling event at Balik Pulau, Penang last weekend. The house is cozy and fill with detail ideas which make us feel like home! The host is very friendly and warmth, she prepared breakfast for us in the very early morning. She even volunteer to bring us cycle around but we're in a tight schedule during this trip. Definitely will be back, both Balik Pulau and Booklodge have more for us to explore.

A wonderful mixture of a guesthouse and a homestay - cosy, personalised, comfortable stay away from the hustle and bustle of George Town. A great place for exploring the other side of Penang island, especially on a bicycle (free hire at the lodge itself), riding through villages and paddy fields. Ymoon is a great host, making sure you have a pleasant and memorable stay and experience the local culture and cuisine. And if time permits, she'll ride with you on the bike to the mangroves and the sunset-place at the estuary too! :) The BookLodge certainly lives up to the name - you can read all you want and buy books and paintings as well. There's enough space to lounge around - with fellow guests or alone. Oh, and the breakfast is awesome too, with both local and European options. Minus: A bit on the expensive side, especially if you're looking at a leisurely stay of more than two nights.

If you are travelling to Penang, visiting Balik Pulau is a must to get away from the hustling and bustling city at Georgetown. Balik Pulau Booklodge B&B provides a nice, cozy accommodation for solo, couple and families. It has a vast selection of books for your reading and if you are a nature lover, you can rent their bicycle to roam around the Malay villages behind. An excellent stay indeed!
