A perfect experience for all of us right from the booking till our departure! Kudos to Janice who took the trouble to fulfil our requests that she never did before(absolutely legal though.😄) Our transfer to Mataking from Semporna was timely and went without a hitch. Checking in was uneventful. We chose the King Chalet and Beach Chalets. And both were superb. Snorkelling experience was just a doorstep away , just beside Moses Walk( yes the Moses that split the sea! And one can see it occurring daily here!) We soon realised that this area is a Snorkelling haven as will see boatloads of snorkelers from outside the island anchoring there. Our experience at the resort was further enhanced by the likes of Lan(who shot a video of us at Mataking Kecil (which housed a bikini bar!) Oh yes John the man! He was there for us throughout our 5 days 4 night stay at the resort. All whims and fancies fulfilled!

We are group of 7, travelled on the 17/5/22 to Mataking after 2 nights in Semporna and a night in Kepalai resort We stayed 4N/5D here. Janice was very helpful with information and the booking. We stayed at the Beach Chalet and King’s. The rooms were clean and the air con powerful and the beds comfortable. Bottled water were available in each rooms and the glass bottles are refilled daily. But if you need extra, you can go to the dinning hall to get more. I personally prefer the Beach Chalet as it is more spacious with a large veranda lounge chairs and has a jacuzzi but its further from the dinning hall. (A nice long walk) Beach chalets faces the sunrise while the Kings’ faces the sunset. However the King’s chalets are newer and cosier and nearer to the dinning hall. The food is ok. Not fantastic. I was suprised not much sea food was served as we were in sea food heaven.( For good sea food, you need to stay in Semporna town. The restsurants there are good and sea food really fresh!) I enjoyed the free flow water, milo, coffee, tea and biscuits in Mataking. The snorkeling in Mataking is killer. Esp near the Mataking kecil area. Plenty of fishes, corals and turtles. The highlight was the release if 96 baby turtles. Super! Mataking kecil is beautiful. Dont underestimate the distance between the 2 islands. Its looks nearer than it actually is. Dont miss the Bikini Bar in the island which was a real surprise! We were disappointed not able to do the night walk to see the coconut crabs. There is a karaoke room that can use by guests for free. Its a great place for socialising with the other guests Overall, all of us had a fabulous time. Would like to take time to thank John, Wawa and Lan. They were helpful and informative. I strongly recommend this resort even if you are not into diving. If you are indecisive if to stay here or Kepalai. This is better. Also this better than in Maldives where you pay a bomb for similar experience

The first time i went to Mataking was in Dec 2004 and since then I lost count on how many trip I have been there. Overall, there are many improvement and it still feels like home. The BAD thing - I guess the shower in the Dive Centre was not like before since it was upgraded. Overall - superb.

Third time in two years. Says a lot how much we love the hospitality and the diving experience here. 5 days 4 nights spent in Mataking Island in a group of 7, with 1 planned Sipadan trip.Things were a bit different this time since it's during the COVID-19 pandemic and the management has decided to minimize on staffs available on the island. F&B Still a decent selection of food for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner due to the Coronavirus outbreak globally. We were disappointed as there were no outdoor BBQ on the weekends and one of the buffet meal were substituted with an a la carte choice instead. Decent quality choices, Malaysian style and some continental choices for buffet but portion size has been reduced significantly as there's not many guests around. Lodging Our dive package got us Garden View 14, 15 and 16 which is situated in the middle of the resort. These rooms have been fully renovated giving a modern and fresh look to it. The rooms had three separate beds which fit us perfectly. There's a closet, satellite TV, warm showers, coffee & tea, amenities, refrigerator and a nice balcony outside. Room is air-conditioned but you can use the fan if you do not prefer the cold air. Comfortable stay and we slept very well throughout our trip. We're expecting for an upgrade to Beach Chalet the next time around. Let's see if management can accommodate this request for our fourth time diving with Mataking. Dive As expected, the Dive Centre experience was first class for us. Tom, our assigned Divemaster took really good care of us from preparation, briefing, setting up equipment, fulfilling our schedule requests, taking care of our safety and making sure we make the most out of our every dive. Tom is, by far the best Divemaster you can dive with in Mataking. If you want an enjoyable, safe and memorable dive, Tom is your guy. We had most fun diving in Mataking and Sipadan and we managed to explore and experience the most out of Sipadan during this trip. One of the days we get to dive with Hardy, which has more than 15 years of experience diving in Mataking, if you're looking for macro and rare underwater life, he's the master in scouring the deep sea for an insight into these small creatures' life. Hospitality 5 star hospitality from all of the staffs. From reception, to room service, restaurant to our Dive Master, Tom. Staffs came and sang song for us when we arrive on the first night, creating a brilliant holiday experience for us. They were very attentive to our every needs and making sure we had the most fun during our stay. Special mention to our divemaster Tom and instructor Hardy, Neneng for the Sipadan trip, Rapi and Bakris for making sure our meals are taken care and attending to all of our requests. It is indeed a privilege to receive such welcoming gestures and hospitality again from the team.

Came back to this place after the last trip made in 2019. 5 days 4 nights spent in Mataking Island in a group of 5, with 2 planned Sipadan trip (despite the distance from Mataking Island). All I can say is that the service, from our stay to hospitality to diving met all of our expectations, similar to our previous trip if not better. We arrived and were chauffeured by the chartered bus to Semporna terminal before boarding our boat to Mataking. Arrived on the island and was offered welcoming drinks and were served our buffet lunch at the wonderful restaurant. A good hour or so relaxing by the beach before registering ourselves at the reception for our room key and preparing for our check dive and begin our wonderful stay at Mataking. F&B Good selection of food for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner despite it being a low season due to the Coronavirus outbreak globally. We were not disappointed at all as we were served with good quality choices, Malaysian style and some continental choices. We even had outdoor BBQ on Saturday night. Lodging Our dive package got us Garden View 15 and 16 which is situated in the middle of the resort. These rooms have been fully renovated giving a modern and fresh look to it. We spent a wonderful eight days and seven nights on Mataking Island, a truly wonderful experience with our children aged 6 & 9. With the outbreak of Covid-19, there only a handful of guest on the island We received a warm welcome from Mr. Lee and the staff and after seeing a few rooms/chalets, we chose a Beach Chalet. They run an impressive operation with many staff and considering the isolated location, they are well organized and self-sufficient. On top of that, they have an eco-friendly philosophy with a sustainable approach to the accommodation and hospitality The island is simply stunning and we explored every corner of the resort and Mataking Kecil At low tide, there are endless stretches of white sand and every shade of blue you could imagine In total, we had about fifteen meals in the restaurant and were always happy with the food. The restaurant staff were super friendly, can't remember all their names but Ibba (Captain) always had a smile on his face and was super attentive Local diving around Mataking & Timba Timba is very good. Tons of marine life, loads of turtles and healthy coral. The dive center is a tidy operation and special mention goes to Melino, Hardy and Andries that made every dive enjoyable. Sipadan is not to be missed, so many fish and so much to see! Now that the island is virtually empty, this is the time to go. We had a wonderful time and a combination of Mataking and the rainforest on the mainland are the recipe for an unforgettable holiday

Mataking island is magical. The beach is white is snow, clean and not busy. The rooms are spacious, tidy and comfortable. Tasty food in the restaurant. The diving, with Sipadan included is very nice. December may not be the best time of year to go diving, but it was fine anyways. A special thanks to the amazing guys and Aimee in the diving crew, who made every single dive a unique experience. Can’t wait to come back. Thanks again ❤️

With a WWF delegation we visited the turtle hatchery, run by the resort, the excellent coral and reeffish location for snorkellling and enjoyed a great lunch at the resort. Though we did not stay overnight I can imagine that this place is a paradise experience and well suitable for a romantic honeymoon, if your wallet can afford it...

We stayed here for 5 nights in a single beach chalet with full dive package. Being eager divers we went three times to Sipadan. The hotel offers excellent service, rooms are great and the location is something for itself. Don't expect a Ritz Carlton style luxury hotel. A five star hotel in a central area would have more pro service and facilities to the fingertips. All though this is a fantastic place. The sand is the finest, the entire island is sorrouned by fantastic spots for diving and snorkeling. The five star padi centre has great and knowledgeable English-speaking dive masters, modern and safe boats and good equipment. We have experienced bad dive centers in this area before. For Europeans, it might seem overwhelming that almost all guests are Chinese. However, we experienced that the staff placed non chinese people in separate areas of the restaurant in the evening. Meals are great, and they can help you order shell fish and crab for dinner in addition to the buffet. Mataking with beach chalet and full dive package is expensive - but go for it. It is a memory for life.
