#1 of 3 Speciality lodging in Poring
Lupa Masa rainforest camp is a natural hideaway set amongst some of the oldest rainforest on Earth. 3 hours from Sabah state capital Kota Kinabalu it is a short walk from the Poring Hot Springs which is 30 mins off the main Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan highway.Made from local bamboo with power supplied by its own on site hydro-electric generator Lupa Masa is one of the greenest, in all senses, places to visit and stay in Borneo. It is surrounded on two sides by the national park and the third boundary is a crystal clear river and waterfall. Accomodation is in traditional style 'sulaps' in tents on foam mattress. Lupa Masa is a haven for birds, mammals and thousands of weird and wonderful insects including stunning butterflies and fire flies. Seasonally on-site there are blooms of the largest flower in the world - the Rafflesia. The camp offers rainforest trekking, bird watching, village visits or simply the opportunity to relax surrounded by nature.

We loves every minute in this camp: the three guys who took care of us are simply amazing and they cook delicious food. The camp is a 40 minutes walk away from town, that means no cars, no noise and no internet etc.! Lupa Masa means forget the time, and that's what you should do there. Every morning we went for a swim in the river and under the waterfall. Campfire and guitar in the evening and lots of "no worries, no time, no stress". Loved it and will definitely come back.

The place is wonderful - a stunning prime forest with several types of vegetation…shame that the camping is uncared for. However, if you are just interested in the vegetation, then this is the place for you. But if you’re looking for a service or, more simply, someone to introduce you to the flora and fauna of the place, well, I’m not sure this is the right adventure for you. As the guides just pick you up from the meeting point and walk you to the jungle camp, all the while, trying to avoid any kind of contact with the travelers. So, as I was saying before it could be an amazing experience if it wasn’t for the totally absence of service.

It was a once in a lifetime experience. Together with Nyanya, we explored Lupa Masa for few days. We experienced living in the forest with basic accommodation. But we're ready for it and it's the reason why we went to Lupa Masa. We knew that Lupa Masa is a real forest camp and not a luxurious hotel in the forest. Lupa Masa's staff were very friendly and accommodating. They helped us understand the nature in Lupa Masa; see the animals and beautiful plants, feel its cold water, and hear its magnificent sounds. The toilets and showers are basic but really nice and clean with refreshing clean water from the mountains. They provided us good food, mostly vegetables. I will surely go back to Lupa Masa. and we will recommend this place to everyone who loves nature or anyone who

A great place to go if u want to experience a real outdoor jungle camp . U are literally in the middle of the jungle so dont expect much , but the experience of hearing all jungle wildlife n the rushing waters of the river is worth it . The night i was there it was just me n the guide , he was lovely n cooked great meals n took me on a really interesting nightwalk . This place is great to chill out , hang out n take in ur surroundings . Not a huge amount to do but u can go swimming at the waterfall . The camps 2 cats were adorable .

After one hour of trekking in the middle of the jungle with hot, humidity, leeches and so on you will arrive in the heart of the jungle. The couple managing the Lupa Masa is nice and Kind and when you realize how much work is needed to build the lodge inside the forest you really appreciate everything. When we arrive the shower was broken and that allow us to have a shower directly in the river. The night is quite but at the same time full of the sounds of the nature. It has been the wildest experience of my life. I am very happy to have the chance to do that even if I can say is not for everyone. If you are scared of snakes, leeches, wild animals and so on, don't go.
