The Anguilla Great House has GREAT setting — right on the water with the mountains of St. Martin in the background! The beach is right outside your door. The beach bar (Coconuts) run by Diane is a fun and the center of the action. The staff is friendly too. The rooms are basic - but the price difference between here and the more “luxury” hotels make that tolerable. A few improvements, like a coffee maker in the room, two luggage racks instead of one blinds that completely close the bathroom window, would be nice additions. Keera, who is the breakfast waitress is always sweet and the coffee is only $3.00, so maybe that makes up for the lack of a coffee maker. All told, this is a value hotel that provides a lot of value. It worked very well for us!

We ate at the restaurant here in the shade just off the beach, and the service, food, and drinks were perfect. Chelsea was fabulous, putting together some tables in the shade for us, delicious rum punches and Shirley temples, and tasty food: fresh fish sandwiches, barbecued chicken, even the vegetarian daughter loved it! Friendly, attentive service. Five stars!

By far the best part of The Great House are the staff. We had unit 125, which is very near the water (25 feet or so). After hurricane Irma the re-building put a solid wall where a wall with windows looking out on the water once were. Our porch gave us nearly 180 degree views of Rendezvous Bay. The only drawback, the flies and mosquitoes which did not seem to exist on our last two visits.

we booked this hotel for a special occasion holiday. it look wonderful from the website and photos. the good points. on arrival the beach met all our expectations, it is one of the most wonderful beaches in the Caribbean, white sands, blue water and safe for swimming. . the beach bar/food is welcoming, although service can be leisurely. our room was spacious and generally clean. good wifi and TV. now the reality. the hotel is still refurbishing after Hurricane Irma. there are thin interconnecting doors, allows noise to travel between rooms, we had very noisy neighbours the first night, no sleep before 2am. the kitchen area was not equipped, nothing, no cutlery, plates etc, no coffee making facility, no safe for valuables the on-site large and silent restaurant is only open 6-8pm, we went on first night and were only diners apart from 5 local business men, after dark no sight of any other guests. beware the hole in the beach full of dirty water, dangerous especially at night swimming pool not used as bottom was covered in sand and paper rubbish beach loungers old, some broken, many occupied by walk-in day visitors. this is not a RESORT yet, all it needs is someone to take it in hand, invest and bring it into the 21C. fabulous location, you need car to go out at night. we don't drive at night and wanted a resort hotel to just chill out in 1 location. when we asked to speak to the Manager told they were "off island", then took 4 hours to find someone to speak to us. Maybe this was our mistake, misled by website and our expectations, we curtailed our list and left after 2 days.

Stayed here one night on business, thankfully only the one night. Although room was clean it was rather basic. Kitchenette looked like it was designed fifty years ago and never updated and, of course not even a kettle or the usual tea, coffee or even drinking water. One restaurant on the compound with an extremely limited menu and exorbitant pricing, yet despite the high price the presentation of the meal was rather much of a disappointment. Although clean appearing the room had an odd influx of flies. At least the Tv and AC worked. Small mercies. Lovely beach and views of St Maarten, unfortunately this can’t be attributed to the hotel other than its location.

We stayed at the Anguilla Great House November 23- 28, 2006. Overall, we were very disappointed.
On a positive note, the native staff were extremely friendly, positive and helpful - as were all the natives we encountered on the island. Rendezvous Bay is an idyllic beach - uncrowded, great sand with postcard-perfect turquoise water and a great view of St. Martin. The food in the on-site restaurant was very good.
The facility itself seemed to be in decline. While we were there, it appeared most of the guests were on business rather than vacation - which may explain the lack of advertised amenities.
We observed no "beach service" during our stay. One morning a staffer rearranged the beach chairs in a line on the beach (a handful were broken)and used a discarded plastic glass to scoop sand and dirty rainwater out of the foot baths (it didn't appear the drains worked). It seemed the only way the foot baths were filled was with rain water. It rained heavily every day we were there - but only for an hour or two each day.
The "water sports" shed was filled with empty 5 gal. paint buckets, trash, broken umbrellas and sailboat sails. It appeared to be unused for some time as the "service counter" plywood was so weathered it was delaminating. The cockpits of the (apparently long unused) sailfish and plastic kayaks were filled with debris and rainwater. Though demasted, the sailboats and the kayaks were abandoned right side up - making perfect mosquito incubators. And there were significant mosquitos - as well as ants.
The entire furnishing of our "Villa" consisted of a king sized bed, 2 night tables, a 5 drawer dresser, a twin daybed (with no pillows to convert it to a couch) a desk with a 19" TV on it and a desk chair. You have to request a hair dryer (we also requested a coffee pot). Because we arrived at 6:00PM, we had to wait until the next day to have them delivered by housekeeping. We also had to wait for maintenance to fix the refrigerator which was not working. The rather large kitchen area had lots of cabinets - all empty. There were no glasses, cups, flatware or anything. We went to the restaurant for dishware we needed. The bathroom sink drain was stuck in the open position (probably rusted open) and both knobs on the shower water faucets were missing screws so they fell off. Though reported, neither problem was fixed. The toilet flushing mechanism broke several times due to rusted components. We temporarily fixed the problem ourselves.
The advertised fitness center did not exist, but I found a broken treadmill on the porch of one of the buildings along with a broken washing machine.
I was able to get snorkeling gear (for a fee) - a housekeeping person unlocked the Gift Shop (which was not open during our stay) and I was allowed to sort thought the pile of mostly broken masks and fins for a set that fit.
When we checked out, it was pouring down rain and the roof in the lobby was leaking on the desk as we checked out. They didn't even attempt to put a container to catch the rain - just let it drip on the desk-and our receipts.
I rented a car from AGH (Freeway Car Rental - on site). When touring the island on Saturday we got a flat (the roads are terrible). I tried to change the tire but the spare was flat and, as it turns out, not repairable. If it weren't for the kindness of several locals (including a nice fellow who re-opened his closed tire shop to repair the tire)we would have really been stuck. As it was, we lost an entire afternoon.
Based on our experience, we would not recommend this facility for a vacation.

My wife and I take seriously what we write in regards to a review for a hotel or resort. We realize that our review, if negative, may cost the hotel money or, if positive, may actually increase the hotel's business. We stayed at the Anguilla Great House for 4 nights before we decided to move to a better hotel. The rooms are poorly decorated, dark, and with mostly non-functioning window treatments. Our room looked NOTHING like the room tht is shown on their web site, Anguillagreathouse. The pool was filled with algae and was dirty. In 4 days we NEVER saw anyone in the pool. The service in their restuarant was VERY slow even for island style and the food is below average at best. One morning we waited 45 minutes for coffee and upon delivery it was cold.
On the positive side the employees, like everyone else on the island, were freindly and courteous. They basically lacked proper training. We heard the owner of the hotel recently passed management of the hotel to his family and this may be a factor in our experience. In addition, one employee informed us that they had recently lost a number of employees to another hotel. Another positive is the excellent beach right in front of the hotel. We suggest that you avoid this hotel until the reviews improve.
In would be difficult for us to advise on a better hotel or resort because the prices on Anguilla are very high and it is difficult to obtain a decent room in the $200 to $250 range. Having said that Paridise Cove, not on the beach but close, is clean, well run and a good alternate hotel. They have a shuttle to the beach. American airlines puts their crews up there and that is always a good sign on the quality of a hotel.

The Great House is a single story, bunglalow style motel that is directly on the beach; you leave your room and walk straight to the sand and the gorgeous water of Rendezvous Beach, which in my opinion is the best beach on the island (of many beautiful beaches). You don't have to get in an elevator or walk down several flights of stairs or go through the lobby. If you forget something, you just walk the 50 or so steps back to your room. Easy and casual. The Great House rooms are fine; not the Ritz, but absolutely fine. Room 124 is the second closest room to the water and it has a king bed and a kitchenette (which we didn't use). It is large with an extra single bed in it which we didn't use either. The TV is small but the cable channels are numerous but are you really in the Caribbean to watch TV anyway? Our shower was the biggest shower I have ever been in and the water pressure and temperature were both fine. Occasionally there was an ant or two on the bathroom counter, but so what? The AC worked great, as did everything else in our room. The Great House restaurant is terrific. We ate out a lot during our vacation because we wanted to sample the different menus, but we also ate a lot at the Old Caribe restaurant at Great House and we really could of just eaten there the entire time. The pool is fine too, but I don't think I saw anyone in it as it is just steps from the most fantastic beach ever!
The staff at Great House is incredible. All our requests for extra towels or help getting a taxi or information were answered with smiles and real service.
What the Great House does not have is a fitness facility, a gift shop, a spa or round the clock front desk help. Who cares? If you want a massage, they can get an in-room one arranged for you or you can walk up the beach to the nearby resort. If you want exercise, walk or run the beach. It is gorgeous. There are 24-hour phone numbers to call in case you need something clearly posted in the rooms and frankly I would feel completely comfortable going to the next door room and asking for help.
The Great House is full of people who have been coming here for 10 or 20 years and who wouldn't stay anywhere else. That is it's best recommendation. People come back year after year. They are a large family and you will instantly feel a part of that. The owner, Will, is on-site and available daily. His Dad started the property and they take pride in their accomplishment.
Rendezvous Bay is the best beach on the island, bar none. It is 2 miles of wide soft sand on a bay looking south toward St. Maarten. There are hardly any waves and no seaweed and no rocks, and very few people during the week. So it is quiet and restful and splendid. On weekends, the number of people increase but it is still not crowded. It is the travel poster of Caribbean beaches!! Trust me.
We flew into St. Maarten and took the GB Express shuttle over to Anguilla. It went off without a hitch and I would recommend them. They take care of your luggage and immigration.
We also used Glennis Connor as our driver for the week. He is on-time, helpful, and professional and he will run you a tab for your trip and make you a good deal. I would highly recommend him to get you around the island if you aren't renting a car.
The Great House is the best value on an expensive island.

To put it bluntly, Anguilla Great House is a two-and-a-half star hotel on a five-star beach. The rooms and amenities are standard, and the service is unobtrusive and polite. It is low season as I write this, and the hotel had an almost "Twilight Zone" deserted feel to it. There were other people staying there, but you'd hardly know it. We stayed 4 nights and had a great time, but I wouldn't recommend it to those who prefer a more "upscale" experience. If you want luxury and pampering, turn around and get out now. This is not the place for you. CuisinArt is a little farther down the beach. It is quite lovely, and has more of a resort feel. It also costs twice as much, so you get what you pay for, or don't as the case may be. Let's start with your arrival on Anguilla. We took the public ferry from Marigot, in St. Martin. It's less expensive than a charter from the dock near the airport, and you don't have to reserve in advance. The ride is a bit choppy, especially if you're on one of the smaller boats (at one point I told my husband that I felt like I should put my hands up), but it only takes about 15-20 minutes. When you get to Blowing Point on Anguilla you have to go through Customs. If you're just visiting for the day you can breeze right through, but if you're spending the night you have to fill out a form, so ask someone for that form as soon as you get there. Otherwise, you could be standing in a long line, only to find out that you have to fill out a form (and guess how I know that). From there you can either rent a car, or take a taxi to the hotel (including tip, about 20 bucks). Rendezvous Bay, while not as pristine as it was when we first visited on a catamaran trip two years ago, is still one of the best beaches I've ever seen. The water is beautiful and the surf is minimal, so even poor swimmers can enjoy themselves. It's long as well, so you can take a nice walk, and as popular as it is with day-trippers, there's plenty of room to go off by yourself. It also has two of the most popular beach bars on the island: The terrific Sunshine Shack, and the Dune Preserve (owned by local legend Bankie Banx). Once you get past reception, you almost seem to go back in time; the whole place has a really retro look and feel to it. Check out the photos, or look them up on YouTube to see what I mean. We stayed in Room 114, one that gets used a lot, I'm guessing. It's a good-sized studio, a bit farther from the beach than I would have liked, but with a decent enough view. Still, I recommend you upgrade and stay in the 121-125 block of rooms: They're closest to the water, and have an unobstructed view of the bay. Our room decor was somewhere between Motel 6 and Youth Hostel, but it had the basics: The bed was comfortable, the water was hot when you needed it to be, the toilet flushed. There was shampoo, soap, and washcloths. The ac and overhead fan worked just fine, and there was a flat-screen tv. There was also a separate kitchen area with a sink and small refrigerator. Just as importantly, there were a good number of electrical outlets (and Americans, you don't need an adapter!). There were issues: The fridge wobbled (a glass resting on it fell off and broke). There was a doorstop to keep the bathroom door open, otherwise it closed on its own (which I didn't mind at all). The shower floor could get slippery (I almost did a split reaching for some soap), and the drain really needs replacing. They have a decent sized pool next to the beach that almost no one uses - wait, my husband LOVED the pool. (Before the trip, when I told him nobody uses it, he gave me his "And you say that like it's a bad thing?" look.) He likes to sit in the water and read, so he pretty much lived there. I thought it was a bit over-chlorinated. They also have a nice, fairly popular beach bar. Breakfast at the restaurant was limited, but good, and we had a couple of dinners as well. Others have noted that you're "encouraged" to call them if you intend to have dinner there. I can see why; not much need to stay open late if no one is coming. The food wasn't bad, and our servers were great. In fact, the whole staff was friendly and accommodating. (Locals also like to use the restaurant for meetings and special events.) Overall, we loved it. The location alone made it worthwhile. We also met at least one couple who could easily afford to stay at a high-end hotel, but preferred Anguilla Great House. For the unfussy traveler, it's hard to beat.

We stayed at the Anguilla Great House April 4, 2005 for 1 week. While the beach was perfect the hotel could have used some upgrades. AGH needs a lot of TLC and some much needed amenities. I know that we didn't pay Cuisanart prices, but they could have tried a little harder. When we arrived we expected a happy and friendly welcome, instead we got a not so happy to see you look and, how may I help you. After telling the front desk person that we had reservations, she still showed no interest in being friendly, she just pulled our reservation and we checked in and we were taken to our room. There was no one there to help us with our bags, we had to lug our bags down a long path past the pool and the restaurant. After a long and very stressful trip from Cape Cod we at least expected a friendly welcome, someone to help us with our bags, and a nice welcome cool drink to quench our thirst. I've traveled to many places throughout the caribbean and I have always had a friendly person to welcome me to their island and a welcome cool drink upon arrival. The room was ok, nothing to brag about and it needed some cleaning. After a few days I got to know the cleaning personnel and things got a little bit better as far as beach towels and services provided to our room. The restaurant staff were very friendly once they got to know you. I especially want to convey my thanks to Mo, and the other waitresses, who's names I can't remember right now, and Reesa the front desk person that put up with all our questions during our stay at AGH. She was always helpful and pleasant.
The beach in front of the AGH is in my opinion the best beach on the island, it was such a great feeling to get up every morning and walk out 100 feet to the water/beach, and then back to either our room or the restaurant. The sand was like powder and the water was crystal clear and so refreshing. The other beaches were also very beautiful but I felt that they were getting too built up with new hotels and restaurants.
The island is small and easy to navigate, you just can't get lost on such a small island. We rented a car for 4 days and drove around to all the different parts of the island. We stopped a few times to try the different restaurants and to see other accommadations on the island. One place I felt stood out for me was Paradise Cove. The rooms were just so nice and so clean. The only thing that this place is missing is that it's not on the beach. If we go back to Anguilla we will probably stay at Paradise Cove. The staff was very friendly and the chef is the best, her name is Lucy and she can work wonders with fish, we actually ate there twice and both times the meals was perfect. Friday nights they have a managers get-together party with food and drinks all provided by the hotel manager.
My stay on Anguilla was a pleasant one, and the AGH could have been nicer but it was adequate.

Yes we do have hair - dryers in the Rooms along with Iron and ironing Board and a mini Fridge. Coffee Maker and Microwave are available on request only.

The waves in Rendezvous Bay are somewhat calm, so even if sitting on the sand it'd be hard to hear the waves. Most rooms are at leasts a few hundred feet from the beach. This is a GREAT and affordable place to stay in my opinion though. If you want to hear waves while sleeping though, this wouldn't be the wavy part of the island. I didn't quite understand the other answer, I didn't go to Cuisinart, but Bankie Banks is a bar restaurant with very good food, and there was at least one more little beach restaurant on the walk in that direction. The beach is open but I don't believe you can get access to it through this Resort without being a guest, but you could walk to it from another place on the beach easily and enjoy the nice beach.
There are more places to choose from in the Blowing Point area.
