The Whitehall staff made it very clear that they wanted our family to have the best possible time we could while visiting Chicago -- they opened doors, hailed cabs, greeted us with smiles, accommodated room requests, remember our kids names. The hotel was beautiful, the view from our room was incredible and the location was in the middle of everything.

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW

The entire stay was fabulous from the bed, staff, and ambience. Within two hours, staff knows your name and energy and service were terrific. The location is excellent for shopping, sight-seeing, and dining. Cultural sites are close by, too.

This was our first say at the Whitehall the service was impeccable. The room is as clean and spacious and the staff was very nice I give it a 9 the reason why it did not get a 10 was because for a ritzy hotel the toilet was extremely cheap it was like using a thin paper bag.

Older hotel, loud air conditioner, no sleep button on TV, Bed was AWESOME and so was the restaurant. Being a business traveler fitness is huge to me and that was not so good. Weights were great, but the cardio needs a redo. 2 treadmills one didn't work and the other was so loud you couldn't even hear music. The elliptical...

The room felt small when we first walked in but had everything we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was kept very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the historic hotel.

Alex, the bellman, has seen our children grow and has become our friend. He has always greeted us with a smile and sincere handshake. He is extremely helpful and kind. We also enjoy sitting in the louge area and having a cocktail before walking to dinner.

We've stayed here often and find it to be a great hotel. Super location, friendly staff, clean, decent sized rooms. The bathroom is a bit small, but works. We had a nice view. We were given a fruit basket upon arrival. Morning coffee service is a nice touch.

Best location in town. Great staff. Rooms kind of old fashioned. Need new furniture and painting. WC are smaller than usual. Great neighborhood, walking distance from the most important sites. I'll consider this hotel for next time in Chicago.

The hotel is located near Michigan Avenue on the north side in close proximity to shopping such as the Water Tower. It is a good area, easy to get around and get transportation and fairly safe, considering the potential for crime in Chicago. It is a historic building, older, a bit stuffy, having a small lobby and fairly standard room...

rented the junior suite. While it was really a large room, rather than a suite, It had a sofa, coffee table and enough storage to stay a month. Large windows had coverings that insured privacy but let in the light. The breakfast, purchased in advance for $16.00 was super: coffee, two eggs as you like them, plenty of bacon and...

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
