There’s not one detail that this Waldorf site misses! Check in with super friendly staff. While you wait, warm wash clothes are handed out to everyone in the party - very nice touch! Our two queen bed room was super spacious for a city hotel. Brass Tack was a lovely place to have a quick bite after check in, but service was a bit slow so let them know if you are on a time constraint.
Definitely recommend logging into American Express Finer Hotels if you have the card - our room was on a 50% off special this week. Would stay her again irregardless - they definitely make their guests feel special.

I am blessed to have stayed at a few Waldorf Astoria Properties and I have to say, the service experienced at the Chicago Waldorf Astoria was superb and exceeded the service of the others I had visited! The room was amazing and included a nice wet and dry bar. Upon arrival, I was also asked if I would like a coffee maker or espresso maker brought up to the room. Yes, the fireplace in the room wasn’t working....so what! It wasn’t that cold during our stay! It was difficult to get used to the “no tip” service, which is not a Waldorf standard, but it was truly a wonderful touch as who carries cash these days?!

Our personal concierge was absolutely superb and before we arrived, he provided restaurant and late night bar recommendations. At the front desk, I have to laud Valerie as she ALWAYS greeted us by name and with a smile....even when my daughter arrived late at night with green skin due to attending the Chicago Comic and Event Exposition (C2E2), she was welcomed back! Valerie even asked to see pictures of my daughter in her COSPLAY attire one evening very late at night! She should be recognized in front of her peers for truly embracing the spirit and goals of Conrad Hilton! Additionally, much praise to the guest relations manager who helped me use a previously unknown guest stay certificate during the middle of my stay! That would not have happened anywhere else!

The pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and relaxation room were all amazing and top notch! The gym included ample aerobic equipment (stationary bikes, treadmills, elliptical s) to include two peloton bikes which did not require a membership. There was another large room of weights and which even included Pilates equipment. There was a wonderful amount of spa products for sale which were reasonably priced. The relaxation room was my favorite as it included really comfortable couches, a large TV, chilled coconut water and dried pineapple chucks, dried blueberries, sunflower seeds and sesame sticks. It was perfect place for a post workout recovery!

We did try the Margeaux (on site restaurant) for breakfast and it was...just okay. I had the quiche of the day and my daughter had salmon. As a diamond member we received $15 per person per day so the exorbitant price for just okay food was palatable. The other day we ordered breakfast to be delivered at the room which was actually nicer than the restaurant. Breakfast was delivered almost to the minute ordered and was nicely presented.

I do not award many five star reviews but the property is well deserving. In comparison to other Waldorf Astoria’s, both in the United States and overseas and other 5 star properties, I would caution that service can actually be “over the top” and “too much” for mere plebeian mortals like myself and a hotel / resort can try too hard! Even Conrad Hilton’s goals have limits but thank you for an amazing memory for my daughter and I! She has a beautiful memory to remember for the rest of her life because of the staff of this hotel!

We recently stayed at the Waldorf Astoria to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. The hotel unexpectedly upgraded us to a larger suite which was a wonderful surprise! They also left chocolate-covered strawberries and a note for us which were wonderful personal touches! We had our baby with us and when they brought up the crib they also brought a diaper genie without us asking for it which was also a really nice touch. The only reason we didn't give the stay a five star review was that we had a few small hiccups...we were charged over $30 for the mini bar although we only consumed one small bottle of soda. I had to call to have that corrected. We were charged for the cost of the upgraded room upon check out and luckily I knew the rate I had originally been quoted so it was adjusted. We also weren't told about the free breakfast our rate included when we booked the room nor when we checked in so the clerk at the front desk ended up giving us an equivalent credit towards the room service we had ordered. The lack of hooks in the large, marble bathroom made it difficult to hang a robe, toiletries, towels, etc. Also, the shower was a bit strange in that there was only a curtain and no door so the bathroom floor got all wet. Still, the hotel is in a great location, is extremely clean and the staff were all very accommodating. We would definitely stay again!

We had a 1 BR suite w/fireplace. The positives for the hotel:
great location near waterfront and lots of restaurants
room was clean. The hotel has a large turnaround driveway that allows you to be picked up/dropped off without being on the main street in front.

The negatives:
This is not a 5 star hotel. It is a nice, clean Hilton; nothing more. Hotel staff are almost non existent. Only 1 person behind the reception desk. No concierge in lobby. Our room was not cleaned one morning so we called the front desk and were told the cleaning staff were gone for the day. Hotel sent up a person to make the bed and bring clean towels but that was it. And we only rec'd that after getting attitude from the front desk person.

There is a small coffee shop in the lobby. The staff was very pleasant and worked hard, but totally understaffed. If you want your coffee or breakfast anytime between 8:30-10 a.m., plan on a 20 minute wait. The coffee shop also runs out of supplies on a regular basis. All 3 mornings I went in the woman behind the counter advised of different items the shop no longer had available. The coffee shop also serves as the bar. Its a nice coffee shop but lacks any ambience or luxury you would expect at a true 5 star hotel.

The beds were mushy and sloped inward from the side of the bed. The bathroom has frosted glass doors for the shower and toilet. The doors are all glass and slam against the glass partition wall when you close them. I'd be surprised if they are not susceptible to shattering if closed too hard. The room was clean upon arrival but that is about all I can say.

The hotel simply lacks any 5 star character. The lobby has no lounge area and zero ambience. It is a non descript area with the reception desk to the right and elevators. This hotel is a clean property but offers nothing more that what I would expect from a normal Hilton or any other decent hotel brand. My wife and I were totally disappointed and would not stay here again. Much better choices available in Chicago at this price point.

The location of this hotel is perfect and everyone is friendly. Spa services were great, however there has been several issues during our stay.

1. Check in was delayed
2. Our young son found a bottle cap beside the bed which could have easily been a choking hazard
3. Lights in bathroom did not work
4. Lights in bathroom broken
5. Whirlpool in spa lukewarm
6. Puddles of water around the windows
7. Mold in the bathroom
8. The biggest concern has been not receiving cleaning service 2 days in a row despite being out of the room from 10am-4pm.

We extended our stay by an extra day but in hindsight I would not have. We could have stayed at the Hyatt for a fraction of the cost and could have received better service there. Will not be recommending this hotel to friends and family in the future.

I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Chicago with my adult daughter for five days. What an incredible property! We have stayed at several other Waldorf properties (Grand Wailea, Monarch Beach, Park City), and the Chicago Waldorf stands out from other Waldorf hotels in all ways. It is a smaller property than the Maui and California hotels, and that is reflected in the dedication of the entire hotel staff to the comfort of their guests.

First, the staff is extremely warm and welcoming. The pre-arrival communication from the concierge was very helpful with advice on local travel and room type. Once we arrived, the front desk staff knew exactly who we were, greeted us by name, and helped us with everything from Lyft reservations to restaurant to local stores and landmarks. The hotel feels quite safe, and the outer courtyard was charming and made it easy for taxis/Lyfts to pull up off the street.

Second, the restaurant had everything we needed, and accommodated our dietary needs. (I am celiac, and was able to eat a large variety of items from the menu.) They have an excellent chef. Over the five days, we sampled breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the menu was consistently delicious and not over-seasoned. The $50/day credit was very helpful ($25/person).

Third, the spa and athletic club is gorgeous. It is fully equipped with a lovely pool (great for swimming laps), sauna, whirlpool and sauna. It was very clean, and neither the pool nor the whirlpool were over-chlorinated. As a daily swimmer, that was great! It was very relaxing to come in from the bitter Chicago cold, and enjoy the pristine and elegant spa. Although we did not take any treatments, they had a nice range of offerings.

We stayed in a junior suite, which was very roomy at 650 square feet, with a beautiful bathroom. My only issue was that the sofa bed was not very comfortable, but we traded off who slept on the sofa just as a sofa, not pulled out as a sofa bed, and then it was fine. Housekeeping was great, and we were able to use an extra refrigerator at no charge. Perhaps the Waldorf would consider having some junior suites with two queen beds? The room was very quiet and peaceful

I would highly recommend this property. If you need to be in downtown Chicago, this is a perfect hotel to stay in. We enjoyed it very much, and we’ll be back!

I usually stay in the Chicago Peninsula Hotel, which is a similar level of hotel, but I thought I would try Waldorf Astoria Chicago this time. On the plus side, the rooms are beautifully appointed. They made strong effort at cleaning for Covid. Location is excellent. On the downside, Service could've been better. My wife asked for some bathroom items, and they forgot some of the request. We didn't call again. The fitness room is small. In room dining has limited hours, no late night hours. That's not a good thing if you're coming back to the room late on a pleasure trip. The restaurant was quite mediocre. My food was OK but my wife really disliked her food. The in room dining breakfast was overall good although they gave my wife insufficient amount of milk for her cereal, about two or three ounces. The minibar was horrible, had only a couple of pre-mixed cocktails in a can. No coffee maker, which was a big minus. On the plus side, the complementary charging for my Tesla with valet parking was seamless. Sometimes the parking valets don't know what they're doing but the valets here were on the ball. In fact, that might be the only reason I might come here again instead of the Peninsula.

Originally had my stay booked at Conrad Chicago, but the hotel postponed their reopening and hotel management promptly reached out to me via email to move my reservation to the Waldorf Astoria Chicago while still honoring the original rate and room type. We couldn't be happier with the way the transfer took place, with hotel management directly accomodating us to some requests that we had. We needed to arrive early to the hotel to settle and get ready to take an online test, and Mr. Hess prompty offered us guaranteed early check in (for a fee), giving us a good option and taking away our worries.

We arrived Friday on Valentines Day Weekend, and upon arriving in our uber to the hotel entrance, the valet team at the hotel very nicely opened the door for us and offered to take our luggage for us to our room (an amazing help for me, as I recently had a surgery and couldn't lift or pull anything for more than a few seconds.) The valet team led us inside to the lobby, where there wasn't any lines and everything seemed clean. We were prompty attended by the front desk team, confirming my stay details and giving me brief information about our stay. The process took less than 2 minutes, and then off we went to the room. There are only two elevator in the hotel but during the weekend we never experienced any lines to go up or down.

The room was remarkable and clean! At about 580sq feet, the deluxe two queen room is perfect for families or friends travelling together. 580 sq feet is way more room than your average hotels, at no point do you feel crammed in. Much of this extra space goes to the bathroom, which has a tub by itself, a rain shower, and a toilet, each divided by doors. Furthermore, you have double vanity with a television in it, and all the bathroom essentials you could ever need. Beds are comfortable and theres a JBL Horizon speaker in the night table, useful for music playing via bluetooth or charging your cell phone.

This hotel has the potential and really is wonderful in many ways but also needs improvement.

When we checked in we didn’t think it was an important issue to point out to the front desk that we purchased the movie upgrade. As it got later in the evening, I called front desk to ask what we needed to do to receive our upgrade, the lady explained and mentioned for us to call back when we’re ready. Later, when we returned we called and the guy my husband spoke with stated that there was no communication about our package and it may not be possible to receive it because it’s late. After waiting about 45 minutes, we called again (3rd time) and the guy we spoke with apologized and said he was very sorry. The popcorn and candy did make its way up, just not sure it was worth all the calls and waiting time.

The maintenance guy who was working the spa that night felt it was necessary to yell at my children and tell them to make sure their feet are all dry before heading to the “pool restroom “ because he didn’t want to wipe up the water. We did ask for slippers for the spa and pool area and was told by the same guy who was condescending to my husband about slippers saying to our face, the slippers are in every room. Unfortunately they were not in our room upon check in. After this a bit later he rudely told my husband the spa is closing early for NYE and we need to hurry out. We had ample time before the spa closed but clearly his personal life couldn’t wait. Having worked in the service industry myself this was frustrating being rushed and talked to like that.

Once we returned to our room the bath tub drain wouldn’t open properly for the water to drain and this was a bummer because my kids wanted to take baths. I had to improvise and try and hold it open but it didn’t work great.

The drawer in the desk in our room fell on my husbands foot as we searched for a pen to write down our breakfast. The suite we rented came with a pull out bed but we had no fitted sheets stocked. No slippers, pen or sheets.

When we called the assistant/ food service we felt like a bother. This hotel really is a gem of a location and I don’t want to discredit every employee but for the price it needs work.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights for the the New Year. We were so happy that we chose this hotel. It is perfectly located to shops and restaurants that make it convenient to walk to even in the cold snowy Chicago weather. It is just minutes to the John Hancock building which has stunning views and a wonderful lounge on the 96th floor. We stayed in one bedroom deluxe suite on the 16th floor with beautiful views of the city and the John Hancock building from the balcony and bedroom window. The suite was completely updated and offered a wonderful fireplace creating the ultimate relaxation during the winter weather. All the staff were wonderful and very helpful whenever we were in need of anything. The Spa and gym were equally as wonderful offering pure bliss after coming back from a snowy walk. All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and will be returning as well.
