It was a short recreational visit for my bride and me... two nights. As a long standing member of the frequent guest program, I have certain expectations which the various Marriott properties will typically meet or surpass and this location is really no exception. There was one small glitch... just an example of how information must be shared among all members of the staff who interact with guests. The property has a club lounge where certain guests are treated to snacks and beverages Sunday evening through Friday Morning. So, I asked if coffee & tea was served in there Saturday morning, even though there would be no sweet rolls or snacks... assuming the answer would be no, I was pleasantly surprised to be informed that it would be served on Saturday morning. Nope, it wasn't. My bride had gone down to get coffee and found it locked with the lights off. So, I had to grab a quick shower, so we could go out, access an ATM, then buy coffee. Sort of minor, but it was a bit of an inconvenience, so worth noting in hopes that someone in the organization gets the word out to not answer guests questions if you don't know the answer! Hotel was nice, lived up to my expectations of the Marriott organization and we will stay there again.

I stayed here for 2 nights for work and the hotel is in the process of a renovation so it’s optimal to enter through the valet. The rooms are standard hotel rooms (no frills) and there’s a good sized gym with at least 4 treadmills, 3 elliptical, and weight machines throughout. In addition, there is an indoor pool.

For a quick bite check out the bars and restaurants in the hotel. There’s a 7-11 one block away and all the stores on Michigan Avenue are a 5 minute walk. I’d definitely stay here again.

Such an amazing stay here at the Renaissance Chicago. The hotel was hip, chic and clean. The staff was on point and gave us excellent service. John Alcott from concierge made our stay so memorable making sure we knew the best spots to eat and the best spots to visit. He is so professional and a pleasure to speak to. Our room had an amazing view of the river and shout out to Ernestina who came to our room every day to take care of any needs we had like fresh towels, making the bed and tidying up. Everyone was amazing here and would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Chicago.

I just completed a stay at the RCHD, one night with my wife and son. Let me start with the things the hotel got right. They provided great check-in service and even granted me an upgrade. Hotel looks recently modernized, lovely lobby smell that seems to be pumped into more trendy hotels. The hotel is in a great location right on the River Walk. Quick stroll to Millennial Park and plenty of great local cuisine.

They do not provide breakfast for Elites on the weekends when the Lounge is closed. They will provide 1000 points consolation, but when breakfast is $30 a day per person, that 1000 points isn’t even a bandaid. That is within Marriott policy but not appropriate to litigate here. Marriott Elite beware.

Second, they offer valet parking for $76 a night, that ends at noon, not 24 hours. So if you valet a car, and do late checkout be prepared to pay for a hefty per hour or second day charge. After receiving supplemental foilio (bill) some hours after checkout, I called the Hotel manager on duty and they were unyielding in this policy. Which is their right. I stayed at this hotel less than 24 hours, but ended up paying almost as much in parking as I did in room charge.

Guest beware. Gouging present.

The rooms are fine. Used the gym at 9pm and all bathrooms were locked on the floor. Many machines had their TV function not working. No free weights open (they locked those rooms too). Few machine options. Such a large hotel needs a much better gym situation. The Westin across the water is hugely better. Nice Renaissance has a club floor, but their coffee and hot water for tea is cold later in the evening — a microwave would help! And they close the club lounge at 2pm on Fri all through the weekend (which makes me transfer to a competitor hotel over the weekend). Wish mgmt looked around at the hotels around them and did a lift in quality.

With so many lodging options in Chicago, it was difficult to choose the best spot for first timers. Luckily, we decided upon the Renaissance!
We were upgraded (Platinum Elite using SNA) to the amazing Riviere Suite, which was riverfront and huge! Not sure which was better the lighted up views of the city or the people watching of the Raised Rooftop lounge which was below us. Our favorite spot was the settee located in front of one of the large bay windows where we would sit with coffee and gaze. The bed was super comfortable and the bath had the best shower pressure! The location allowed us to explore the city, with most of it being across the bridge in River North where my daughter was apartment hunting.
We also stayed across the bridge at the Westin, where we used a Marriott free night certificate, and were also upgraded to a penthouse luxury suite. We preferred the Renaissance, mainly because of the dead on view from our room, as opposed to the side view of the river from the Westin. It was much brighter facing north than south.
As first timers, we thoroughly enjoyed the sunset cruise on the Wendella boat, and all of the amazing restaurants, especially RPM seafood across the river and all of the other places to grab a drink along the riverwalk.
We stayed at the end of May when things were picking up with covid. We felt extremely safe.
Would definitely plan a return to this lovely hotel as soon as we are back in Chicago!

We splurged a bit for a hotel this time because we wanted ON the River Walk and we wanted a VIEW of the River Walk from our hotel room. So, knowing we splurged, it was well worth it to us because it achieved our goals! We didn’t have a car this trip; just taxied in fro O’Hare…..and then walked anywhere we wanted to go. Perfect location for this….and perfectly safe. Wandered along the River Walk, walked to Millennium Park, Grant Park, the Navy Pier, great restaurants & shopping, entertainment. Ate dinner one evening at the hotel’s rooftop Raised Bar….great ambiance. Launching for the Sunset River/Lake cruise was a short walk away (can see it from our hotel window). Hotel was clean; staff were helpful. Will likely stay there again.

We stayed over the Labor Day weekend when the hotel was packed with a large wedding. For three consecutive days we could not get a seat at the roof top bar, despite being a staying guest. The hours for the dining room seemed a little odd, particularly when the hotel was full, and the only place for breakfast was the lobby bar (Staytion). On Sunday, when they did open the restaurant for breakfast seating (maybe enough people complained), they only opened half if the seating, so it was immediately full. The lobby staff were very friendly and professional. The room was cleaned every day. We had two queen beds, one was a little 'used' and we sank in the middle of it.
On the morning we left, we had to leave at around 7am to catch the Orange Line to Midway, we could not get any breakfast in the hotel - they don't begin until 7am, and there was already a queue at the lobby bar.
Excellent location on the river, easy walking to Michigan Ave, less than a block to the "L".
We would stay again.

My daughter and I stayed at the Renaissance for only a few hours, but the service and our experience was so incredible, I had to write this review.

I surprised my daughter with a Christmas trip to Chicago to see 3 Broadway shows, including Hamilton. I choose this hotel based on the location within the theatre district, the brand and the reviews.

We arrived at the hotel close to midnight and were at first provided with a very nice, but small room. Our stay was for 3 nights and some extra room would have been welcomed. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member so called down to see if anything else was available. Within 20 minutes, a gentleman from the front desk (I’m so sorry but I didn't get his name) came up and escorted us to our new room – a gorgeous, huge suite overlooking the Chicago River. He helped with our luggage and made sure we had everything we needed for the night. It was the perfect start to our stay and the room was so incredible with the city lights all around us.

We unfortunately got a devastating call from home a few hours after settling in and had to leave immediately. I went down to reception where the same gentleman was still working and explained our situation and that we would need to check out before completing our stay. I was clearly upset (crying and could barely speak) and he took the time to comfort me, to make sure we had travel arrangements and really just made the whole situation go a bit smoother. I will forever remember him for his kindness and impeccable customer service.

From the bottom of my heart – THANKS to this amazing gentleman! He is an asset to the hotel and we hope to return one day and experience all that the Renaissance and the city have to offer.

A 3 day notice requirement to cancel is unfriendly to business travelers. I travel for business regularly and have preferred status with Marriott. I unexpectedly had to extend my trip by a day, but unfortunately their hotel was sold out for the additional night. Called (more than 24 hours before check-in) and asked if they would waive the 3 day notice since they couldn’t accommodate me. They refused and weren’t very friendly about it. They told me I could just cancel and pay the penalty, which (drumroll ...) is equal to 1 night stay and tax. Gee, thanks....I only had one night booked anyway.

I stay 30+ nights a year in Chicago. I won’t be booking here again. I don’t have travel issues come up that often, but the few times I have other downtown hotels have been more flexible and accommodating.

The lounge is open Monday through Friday 6:30AM to 10PM. It closes around 12:30 or 2PM (don’t remember) on Friday and reopens on Monday at 6:30AM. It is primarily for business travelers as the lounge is not open on weekends. It is located near the elevators on the same floor as the hotel lobby.
