Out of the way but easy to get to Michigan Ave. Room was clean, a little dated but the bathroom and linens were updated. We had a sliver view of Lake Michigan which was nice and unexpected. The heater in our room never stopped running and the thermostat appeared to not be attached or do anything. They should state on the website the martini bar isn’t open yet. The Drake across the street has a nice bar.
I upgraded to a really large corner room with a view out onto the street in front, Well worth the extra money. I walked in and the entrance is separated from the bedroom.with a large beautiful bathroom to the right, a table to put things on in the middle, and a closet and nice dressing area to the left. The bedroom has two large windows giving lots of natural light and the deco and modern furniture gives the feel of slick nostalgia. Everything was very tasteful and well thought out. The mattress and linens on the bed were of really high quality. The temperature of the room was easy to maintain with the thermostat. The bathroom had a tub with a rain shower, or you could use a hand held wand sprayer. The location is great since it is half a block from Michigan Avenue and one block from the best beach on Lake Michigan. The Front Office Manager, Candice, was very helpful with answering all my questions and suggesting places to eat and shop. She went above and beyond to help with anything we needed. I will definitely go back for the "old world charm" and feeling of history and nostalgia you get at a luxury hotel like the Knickerbocker.…
Great deal for a great hotel. Location cannot be beat. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Cleaned daily. Early check-in is $40 but they took our bags while we went and spent the day on Magnificent Mile.
We had a super easy check in(they already had our keys in an envelope). Great little peak of the water from our room and awesome friendly staff. Can't wait until our return again. Thank you Knickerbocker, you did not disappoint.
I guess this would fall into the category of you get what you pay for. My wife and I stayed here several years ago, and really enjoyed it. Honestly, it's hard to see that they have spent any money on maintaining the property. The location can't be beat though...1/2 block from North Michigan Avenue. And the price was certainly what attracted us to the deal. That said, I wouldn't have booked it had I realized how tired the property was. Our room was in need of some basic repair to the wall paper and floor molding. While the room had a coffee maker, I have to admit it's really a bummer when there's not even coffee service in the main lobby area. Good news though, it's right across the street from the Drake and a very nice coffee shop there.
This hotel is in a decent location, however this hotel cannot claim to be 4 stars. It’s very tired looking and the rooms were old and drab. Our room was not made up during our 2 night stay. The room was grubby and not very clean. The bathroom carpet was peeling away from the door and twice I caught my foot on exposed nails. The only upside was the beds were comfy.
This hotel charged me twice for the same room. They promised to refund me but didn't and now will not reply to my emails. I suggest if you book here do it through an agent. DO NOT book directly with the hotel.
Reception gave no information just told us how to get to our room. No information in the room. King size bed very comfortable, but silver fish in the bathroom, otherwise clean. No facilities in the hotel, no food, no drinks. Doorman only person we saw, very helpful but otherwise the hotel is closed down.
To be honest, I found myself surprised that I was able to get such a good price per night for this hotel, given its high reputation. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the rooms were very clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend that the rooms get a microwave inside them, but I almost understand why they don't, as it helps keep the rooms cleaner. Also, the location is close enough to downtown to where you can just simply go out and eat too. I definitely hope to get this hotel again.
Like many older and discounted hotels, the service is somewhat streamlined. However their processes are very good and I was able to check in and out very easily. The room was very clean. The furniture was not too old. The bed was comfortable. Linens were also very nice. I slept comfortable. Overall, I would rate this as a value priced luxury hotel. It isn't the latest greatest, or the boutiquiest. But it was very nice for the money, and the amenities were not disappointing.
