Stayed in the hotel for 3 weeks my only gripes is that the Television doesn't get any local stations. It would be nice to watch the local news instead of Fox or MSNBC. Restaurant is under construction but many restaurants within walking distance and Blue Line Subway is on the corner. The room on the second floor is pretty noisy with road construction and traffic right under you window. Rooms were spotless and staff is very friendly.

I was not having a good day. Missed my bus to Indiana, and Amtrak/Greyhound customer service either incorrectly issued my ticket or gave me incorrect info re: availability 3 times. Was clear I was spending another night in Chicago, so was directed to this Holiday Inn. Walking distance, room available and no waiting to check in, clean, super comfy room, and walking distance to shopping and food. But honestly, the best bit here were the 2 women at the front desk, Beth and Rena. They troubleshot my issues getting on the wifi network, directed me to dinner options. Also, after having been told by Amtrak cust. svc. that there were NO trains or buses to Indiana the next day, I went downstairs to see if either of them had any other ideas for getting there. Rena was still there, and alas, other than a taxi she couldn't come up with anything I had already tried. But 20 min. later, Rena call my room and said she noticed that there was, in fact, a Grayhound bus to IN with seats available...in fact 2 buses, which I hadn't checked as I had already been told by Amtrak/Grayhound there was nothing. So the trip was saved, and I wanted to mention Beth and Rena specifically as they were GREAT, and their help was SO appreciated. :)

I had a lovely night’s sleep in a clean cozy bed with soft sheets after a delightfully long, warm hot shower. I’m here visiting my sister who is high risk and I’d like to be with her without a mask all the time so I’m taking all the social distancing measures I can to protect her. I gave my breakfast voucher to a staff person and chose a small table for two (I was alone) in a corner. As I sat finishing my breakfast, a staff person raised her voice from across the way and said the section was closed. She pointed to chairs that I really had not paid attention to. I simply smiled, ate faster so I could leave the restricted section. She came back as I was bringing my plate took it and demanded my voucher in the middle of the restaurant. A drama I did not ask for in front of all the other patrons and before 8am. Far too early. After some discussion and questioning of the staff I gave the voucher to, I left feeling ashamed and accosted. The employee could have handled this more discreetly and not like I was her least favorite cousin in her mother’s kitchen. Black women are often treated with disrespect. I, however, don’t want to have to pay for the privilege. She created drama where there was none. Willing to escalate over one solitary black woman, eating her eggs and bacon in a corner. Can we have no peace!?

I'm so sorry you had this experience, however I believe you may have left a review for the wrong property. Since we are undergoing renovations, our restaurant and breakfast area are completely closed. I hope you are able to reach out to the correct property so you can make them aware of this situation!

We stayed here 10/1/2021 in a King Suite. $390 per night. It was closest to Union Station and on the Magnificent Mile both of which played a part in our choice. We frequently stay at IHG properties and have never experienced a problem. The rooms were cold and dingy. Very out dated. While they appeared clean at first glance, after a few moments, they were not. The floors of the room had shiny spots that appeared to be old gum or food that had been pressed in or repeatedly walked on. The ceiling had orange rusty circle spots on it at first we didn’t know why, but after a rain fall during the night we discovered it was because the ceilings leaked. There were dirt spots in the bathtub that I thought were there from a maids shoe, but turns out they were permanent. The shower curtain, was to small for the shower and wouldn’t stay in place. There was black mold growing in the corner of the ceiling in the living area of the suit, and the air vent in the bathroom. I’m disappointed since I’ve always trusted IHG hotels, this one was truly a disappointment. I’ll post pictures as well.

SAFETY EVENT/ISSUE on 5th floor, the ceiling caved in, we called front desk, the slab of ceiling remained blocking hallway in front of our door for 3 hours. Some guy came up and looked at it and left. We expected to be updated and or safety signs where the disaster happened or at least be transferred to another floor. I had 2 children who were in the same spot just 30 seconds before it caved in. The pool was closed most of the time. the building is falling apart, reminded us of the building disaster that happened in Miami Florida. The flooring on the 5th floor in our room was soaking wet, that was not addressed either. Its a cheap hotel, you get what you pay for, we chose this one because of the rooftop pool for the kids, which the pool was not safe for use either. Dont go here, at least not the 5th floor. Front desk girls were professional though, they were just doing their job with the limited resources available for them, its not their fault. But with the ceiling caving in, its a safety issue and needs to be addressed right away

Dear ejm942, I appreciate you for sharing your review about your recent stay. I am very sorry that you did not experience an exemplary hotel stay because of the level of service you have received. On behalf of our hotel, I apologize for the closure of our pool and the safety issue caused by the caved ceiling. This is not what we want any of our guests to experience. I have sent you a private message to reaffirm my apologies. In the midst of the inconvenience, I am glad to know that the location of our hotel was still appreciated. I very much hope that you will grant us the opportunity to prove ourselves again. Best Regards, Ben W. Case Manager IHGService

First the good. Excellent location. Stayed here overnight to watch a Cubs game. Took the Amtrak to Union Station which was only 3-4 blocks away from this property. The walk, even in the middle of a hot afternoon, wasn’t too bad. From the hotel, you can get on the Blue Line Clinton Station which is only a block away. We got an all-day pass which is $5/person. Uber, a couple hours prior to the start of the game, was running about $40. We switched to the Red Line at the Jackson St stop. We took the same route back using the same $5 all-day pass. The property is also right next to a Divvy bike station which are $3.60 for 30 minutes and then they charge per minute after that. We took the bikes a few blocks south of the property where there were Buffalo Wild Wings and Portillo’s. It’s just over a mile from the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park. The penthouse floor has the fitness center, outdoor pool, laundry room, and business center. Fitness center was surprisingly well-equipped. There were treadmills, elliptical, and stationary bike. Lots of dumbbells and adjustable bench. Staff were friendly and helpful. WiFi had a strong signal. For the location (downtown Chicago), the price was reasonable. Finally, there was a restaurant on-site. The bad. This property seems a bit dated. Room was small. There was a smell to it. Hard to describe. Maybe musty, moldy, and cigarette- a mixture of all 3- is my best attempt. Carpeting was old. Bathroom was small. Overall this place just needs updating. No AC in the fitness center. They had a fan going on in there but it was definitely not helpful. It was hard to get a good workout in the fitness center because it was so hot. Maintenance is needed too. The clock was still an hour behind. How hard is it to make sure the clock has the right time? The mirror was cracked and held together by tape. No towels for use in the fitness center. This isn’t a slam dunk “will stay here again” property for me. Maybe if it was less than $150/night, then probably. Location can’t be beat for me though. This place needs modernization

We walked in and the whole hotel smelt like weed and the logs had trash scattered everywhere. The security guard looked up at me and then went back to playing on his phone. Rooms were oldddddddd like 1980s old. How does this place still exist and how are they charging $200 a night. Listen to me when I say stay somewhere else! If you’re loyal to holiday inn stay at the Mart Plaza one it is a million times nicer and it’s the same price. We stayed here because the other was sold out but we will never ever stay here again. I literally considered checking out right after I checked in but there was nothing else around.

The hotel was gross with bugs and roaches in the sleeping area and bathroom. I checked our early and would never stay there again. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating but it’s clear the owners haven’t put money into upkeep of this property in years. The restaurant was average at best yet the staff tried to work with what was made available to them.
