I read the reviews and wonder if I was at the same hotel. It starts with trying to find the obscure entrance. The vintage elevator(which is code for ancient should be condemmed) would not stop at our floor. The parking is in a sketchy ally , and the power went out in the morning, making for an entertaining way to... More

An absolutely charming hotel that lives up to the European in its name! Our group was three high school friends -- one of us lives in the area and two of us stayed at the Inn. Room with two beds was spacious with an upholstered chair and ottoman and plenty of convenient electrical outlets including a fixed USB port. The... More

What a fun hotel! Not your run-of-the-mill place, this hotel has character galore. I loved the parlor and the rooftop deck, and my room was cozy but clean and pleasant. What stands out the most, though, is the fantastic customer service. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Pros: This hotel is an excellent value for the area. Convenient and easily walkable to stores, restaurants, the lakefront and mass transit. Loved the historic ambiance and furnishings. Breakfast was delicious with French pastries, coffee, boiled eggs, bagels, juice and more. There is also a spacious roof top deck, which we discovered the day prior to our departure. Cons: Desk... Just a pleasure for the 5 nights we stayed. Great rooftop patio. The staff are just wonderful and very helpful. Very easy to get to downtown Chicago and far enough a way to relax at night. The history of the building is great. From the old architecture that was kept and the modern amenities, the balance is perfect. This was... More

My wife and I were visiting family and decided that instead of staying in one of the more distant Chicago suburbs in a conventional/newer hotel room we'd look for a hotel in Evanston. We're very happy we ended up making reservations for two nights at the Margarita. This is a place we'll definitely come back to. The location was perfect... More

Like a bed and breakfast. So quaint but a modern bathroom and AC. The breakfast is french pastry made from scratch. The chef comes out and talks to you about it. And the location is great. Just off of downtown Evanston. Street parking was available and free, too. And what a value! Evanston is no small town so I was... More

It was old, yet it was all new. The owner of this hotel has done a very nice job refurbishing an old boarding house into a quaint, yet modern hotel. We are a family of 5 (3 teenagers) and we stayed in a spacious room with 2 double beds and a day bed (2 twin beds). The beds were very... More

I was in Evanston for a wedding and stayed at this charming hotel. In my opinion, it strikes a great balance between a big hotel and a B&B. I found Margarita Inn to have just the right balance of being friendly and welcoming, but not too personal. The room was comfortable, and had a historic feel without being shabby or... More

The Margarita European Inn is appropriately named because it does have the feel and the charm of a small mid-range European hotel. The breakfast room is a large, comfortable, rather plushly (and slightly eccentrically) furnished sitting room, nothing at all like the vaguely cafeteria-style rooms you'll find at a typical hotel. And there's a library room full of books and... More
