We had an amazing stay in the Indigo Cottage! The decor and view was very relaxing and eco-friendly. A wonderful retreat for any couple! Very private and the view is just incredible! Malcolm and Lorraine were very friendly and helpful, with great advice about local places to eat and see. Couldn't ask for more and can't wait to return!

Makanda Inn is the ONLY place to stay in Southern Illinois! This unique inn/bed and breakfast was the perfect place for a couples getaway to wine country. The homemade hot breakfast was simply divine and a great filling base for a day of wine tasting. We had bacon and French toast with raspberries one day and a veggie omelet the...

We loved it! The Sienna cottage was very clean and comfortable for 2 people and had just the right amount of amenities. The breakfasts were excellent, and the hosts were very friendly and made you feel at home. It was a very relaxing weekend and we definitely hope to return.

We stayed in the Sienna Cottage. This is a unique B&B, but we would not return. The cabins have thin walls allowing ANY noise to be heard in the adjacent room. It was uncomfortable enough that even a trip to the restroom could be heard by all. The cottages also do not include breakfast. Parking for cottages is very small...

We came here on a 2-night getaway, but wish we could have stayed longer. The Sienna cottage was cozy and had a wonderful view of the woods. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Malcolm and Lorraine were very friendly hosts. We enjoyed an afternoon of hiking at Giant City State Park, which was a short drive away. We would...

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to share your great experience for our future guests to read! We will say that at least 90% of our guests who stay for just 2 nights, find it is just not enough time to really explore & enjoy this unusual part of Southern Illinois. Who hope you'll return for a...

My husband and I stayed in the green room at the inn for two nights during the week shortly before Thanksgiving. We were the only guests at the time, so we missed some of the conversations we might have had with other guests, but we enjoyed our evenings sitting beside the fire in the stove downstairs, while enjoying some wine...

The proprietors are wonderful, the breakfasts delicious and the setting very peaceful. We stayed the weekend of...

We really appreciate your review and think fellow travelers will as well, it was our pleasure to host your stay with us! Having you here for the first time with your friends, who recently stayed in the Inn, we feel was a great compliment! We've just added a little fireplace to the West End cottage. We visited for our anniversary, and I don't think I could have found a better spot. Secluded, beautiful, immaculate, romantic—as another reviewer wrote, Makanda Inn is "a gem of a retreat." We'll definitely be back.

We stayed in the Sienna Cottage and although it was a very cool experience, you could hear EVERYTHING in the cottage right next to you (Indigo). I felt like we had to whisper and be quiet. If we went back, would probably book the cabin that stands alone down the path.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad to hear your Sienna experience was very cool! We are also sorry about the sound issue you experienced with the adjacent cottage. Due to the extensive wood framing of these two cottages, full sound isolation was not possible. We did add a double wall in the stair well and bathroom to dampen...

Tucked away in the woods is the charming rustic lodge and cottages. The lower level of the inn has a large gathering space for groups along with more secluded areas for a couple to have some privacy. We did not stay in the cottages which were set back from the inn. The rooms at the inn are comfortable and restful...
