My wife and I returned to one our favorite places, the Giant City Lodge last month after 16 years and was looking foward to the famous chicken fried dinner.
We were there on Monday night at the first seating at 5pm.

Beautiful area..lots of turning trees..perfect weather. Stopped for dinner at Giant City Lodge in Makanda. Chicken was delicious. Highly recommend eating here when in the area!!! Planning another fall trip this year. Located in southern IL.

I can speak to staying in the historic cabins. The mattresses there are doubles, which means a pretty tight fit if you're used to a queen or above, however, the biggest problem is they are showing their age. Our mattress sagged toward the middle and was overly soft. It was pretty uncomfortable.
