We took the boat to Howtown expecting to spend an hour or two here and get the boat back. But it's not that kind of place. There's a "tea shop" and the hotel. We wanted a cream tea so headed for the tea room. My impression of a tea room is that it should be oldy worldy, China tea cups...

Wandered in to Howtown after a walk from Patterdale looking for somewhere to get a cuppa and a cake before getting the Steamer back to Glenridding, and spotted a sign saying 'Tea Room'. Very new and clean, with helpful staff and fast service. The pot of tea was just the ticket, and the Tiffin was rich, delicious (and I assume...

A simply wonderful slice of good old fashioned Lake District hospitality. We stayed for four nights, including one night for a family wedding, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The decor is pure quaint charm and plenty to keep you interested whilst you take tea or coffee by the roaring fire in the lounge or a G&T in the bar (which...

Stopped off here after completing around 13 miles of the 22 mile trek we planned which took in all of the Ullswater Way and a little more besides. Was a very pleasant relief to find such a surprisingly fantastic tea room where we quickly demolished a number of sandwiches and cakes before burning off this calories on the remains 9...

The coffee shop at the rear of the hotel only opened this summer. The hotel always has a good reputation for afternoon teas but the Coffee Shop must excel. The venue is spotless. fresh and inviting, the staff and welcoming and friendly and the food is delicious. Freshly made sandwiches to order, and fantastic home made cakes and scones. Made...

I had the tea room recommended to me before we'd even set off for our Lake District holiday at nearby Pooley Bridge. On the afternoon we visited there were a few other people in the place but it wasn't so crowded that you were searching for a place to sit. My Mrs had the mushroom soup and warm bread rolls...

We came to dinner - or rather for the dinner. When the Sharrow Bay chef defects here you know you are in for a treat. This place is a Cumbrian institution, its a quaint old timer providing an experience of yesteryear that cannot be replicated. It may be perturbing to the casual visitor that the menus have no prices for...

This hotel is amazing. It's gorgeous, the drawing rooms, the grounds, and the guest rooms. I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real as it is so luxurious. The staff are very accommodating as well. Our room was beautiful with a large bathroom with a bath tub. All of the drawing rooms are impeccably decorated in a...

We first visited 30 years ago, and the quaintness is just as much in tact. No wifi, no internet, no TV's in the room, just good food (really excellent dinner) and drinks in an amazing setting. Dinner is served when the gong goes, and not before.Dinner will be from a choice of three dishes, which included Venison, ox cheek or...
